Pursuit: A Bad Boy Romance by Cristal Pierre (93)

Chapter Six

“Do you know anything about what happened?” Jayden was asking Lindsey as they drove to the hospital.

“No, but Dr. Beyer saw us at the coffee shop this morning. He even went in after her and came after me,” said Lindsey.

She could see Jayden’s face darken as she told him what had happened. His anger was coming to the surface and she didn’t want to be around when he let it go. She had already seen him angry once. When it had happened before he had almost killed four men.

“I should have killed him the second he walked from the office,” whispered Jayden.

“Jayden, you didn’t know this was going to happen,” she said before continuing, “do you think he’s trying to draw you out again?”

Jayden shook his head, “he has never seen me in my human form, he wouldn’t know who I was.”

“Well, if anyone asks, you’re my cousin okay?” She said with a smile.

He looked at her and smiled seductively, “I don’t recall ever doing anything like we just did with my cousins.”

Lindsey blushed a bright red and smacked him playfully, “you are not very helpful.”

They pulled up to the hospital and parked, he looked around cautiously. Before she stepped out of the car, he grabbed her arm and pulled her in close to him. His lips just inches away from her own.

“Lindsey, I am bound to you and no others. The pack will deal with Beyer and his men okay?” As he looked into her eyes, she felt safe for the first time in a long time.

She couldn’t help herself, she closed the distance between them and kissed him passionately. The first they had shared earlier in the kitchen was not dampened, she felt the desire growing inside of her once again. Lindsey pulled away from him and looked at him. Never before had she felt so much passion or such a strong connection with someone. She had dated before but not like this. It was like she already loved him, he was everything to her and she already knew it. Could she trust that he felt the same though or is it just because of her father?

“Lindsey? Are you still with me?” He asked her, a look of concern on his face.

She smiled at him, “I am, more than ever. I was just thinking about my dad. I can’t think about him any more right now,” she said with a smile.

“Let’s go check on your friend,” he said as he leaned in to kiss her.

She backed away and smiled at him, “not a chance, you keep kissing me like that and we will never make it inside.”

Lindsey gave him a quick peck on the cheek and the two walked inside. She was amazed at how quickly his emotions changed. He went from being romantic and playful to becoming a bodyguard as soon as they stepped out of her car. She knew he was worried and it felt wonderful to have him by her side. Inside the hospital, they were permitted to go back to Amy’s room. She was out of surgery.

“Oh my god, it took you long enough!” Said Amy as they walked through her door, “Oh, is this the man that’s causing all these problems?”

“Wow, I thought this was life and death,” said Lindsey looking at her friend and smiling.

It was true, the woman was covered in bruises much like Lindsey had been but she also had a bandage over her head and a cast on her wrist.

“What happened,” said Lindsey as she sat on the bed next to her friend.

Jayden had moved over to the window and was looking out. They were on the second floor, facing the parking lot. He could see anyone coming from where they were at. Amy watched him and gave Lindsey a questioning look. Lindsey mouthed the word, ‘later’. Watching Jayden look out the window, Lindsey wondered what she would tell her best friend about him. She knew about the wolf, but how could she tell her about the man? It seemed like there would be some code among their kind too. Your girlfriend can’t tell her friends what you are. Lindsey chuckled to herself. Her boyfriend was a freaking werewolf.

Amy rolled her eyes at Lindsey, “fine. So after you pulled your little disappearing act, Beyer came in all sorts of pissed off. He was screaming about a wolf and a man. Something about how you screwed up everything and he was going to have to do more. Then he just stops and walks out of the place. At first I thought it was crazy strange but I was freaked out enough not to push it. I was going to go out the front when I saw that same guy from the office, that frat guy, waiting and watching me from outside the coffee shop.”

“So I decided to act like I was going to the bathroom and give him the slip out the back way. I had almost made it from the alley when I feel something hit me in the back of my head. After that I blacked out then woke up here. I guess some cute blond guy built like your friend there, brought me in.”

At that last comment, Jayden’s head shot up, “did you get a name?”

Amy raised her eyebrow, “Colfax, why?”

Jayden smiled knowingly, “he is an old friend of mine. I am glad that he was near here. I had no idea that he was in town.”

Lindsey looked at him, just as confused as Amy. Jayden looked away from them and once again, Lindsey saw his body change.

“He’s here,” he muttered.

Amy and Lindsey both froze as Jayden rose from the window and headed for the door.

“Where are you going?” Asked Lindsey as she stepped out of earshot of Amy over to the door.

“I am going to settle this,” he said, his gaze softening as soon as he was with her.

“What? Are you insane? That’s what he wants,” she said to him.

“Please Lindsey, I need to end this, I want to be with you without being chased by him,” he said

She looked at him and knew, she would never care for another man like him again.

“Jayden, please come back to me,” she said to him.

He smiled at her and kissed her tenderly, “I will, I promise my darling. Now that I have you, I will never let you go.” He looked at her once more, “you are mine.”

As soon as he walked from the room, she went to the window. Every bone in her body was against the idea of him leaving her there. She felt a connection to him, she needed to be with him. Something wasn’t right she realized when she noticed a black van parked near the entrance. It seemed almost familiar. Lindsey froze as her mind put together the pieces. That van had been parked across the street the night she was attacked. It wasn’t just the doctor that was here, they were all here. She ran from the room and took the steps two at a time to get to Jayden.

Running through the halls, she thought about losing him. She thought about a life without him now that she had finally found love. Finally, she knew she belonged with him. Lindsey ran through the door and watched in horror as the van pulled away from the hospital. Beyer was driving and he smiled at her as they pulled away.

He finally had the werewolf he’d been hunting to experiment on and it was up to Lindsey now to save him.
