Runaway Heart (Runaway Rockstar Series Book 2) by Anne Eliot (1)

A note from the author…

Hello, and welcome (or welcome back) to the Runaway Rockstar Series.

This is a reminder note that I hope will bring you back up to speed on what happened back in book one, as well as serve as a fast-track for those who didn’t read book one but who want to read out of order.

I decided to write this note because I always wish every author would do this for me. I read too many books, too fast. Often life, families, kids, pets and that part where I need to cook, do dishes, laundry and vacuum endlessly sucks out my mind—to the point that I can’t remember even where I’ve parked my car sometimes, I think reminder notes like this are necessary!

If you don’t think so, or don’t need it—STOP HERE. Skip this chatter, head to Chapter One, and get reading! Either way, know that I love you like crazy for being inside this book at all. Forever grateful. ~xoxo AE

So here goes. My re-cap of Runaway Girl with very few spoilers. (Please know, once you start reading Runaway Heart, I can’t avoid them from creeping in, so you’ve been warned!)

Runaway Girl, book one, is the story of main character, Robin Love, as she runs away with her younger brother, Sage. Their father is US ARMY, Special Forces, but has been missing in action for over a year. Robin’s guardian doesn’t want to keep the teens long term and is sending her little brother, Sage to foster care when Robin goes off to university. Robin has refused to let that happen so they runaway. At nearly eighteen, Robin thinks she can raise her brother by herself. Only, after one week of being on their own, she and Sage wind up broke and homeless. They accept temporary shelter from this amazing family (The Perinos) who sense Robin and Sage need help. Robin also lands a temporary, cash paying job, working with the famous band, Guarderobe as a nanny.

The band is hiding a baby girl, one who was left, apparently abandoned by her mom, in the Rock-band’s top floor hotel suites. They need short-term childcare while they search for the mom all while they try to hide the baby from the press. Robin is hired, signs papers that keeps their secrets all while she keeps her own secrets about being a runaway. The members of Guarderobe keep even more secrets from Robin, too, but they also become very curious about this hard-working girl they’ve all begun to like very much.

Royce Devlin, the resident bad-boy and the dirt-bag-baby-daddy of the baby, becomes a guy Robin can’t stand. First because he’s a jerk, and second, because he hardly looks at his own baby daughter. He won’t claim her as his own, though everyone knows he’s the father. Robin, who misses her own father too much, takes this all personally, vowing to inspire Royce to become a good father.

Royce, while trying to avoid Robin’s annoying as hell parenting-tips, develops a secret crush on the nanny-girl. He’s never met anyone who pushes him to be/create/reach for something bigger than just a being a musician. Despite his promises to leave the charming nanny alone, he’s also attracted to her. Her smile, her laugh, her outlook on life and how she sees him, the real him, becomes his addiction. (So…yeah…400 pages of attraction, friendships, learning how to adult. love-hate—worry about the future—the baby is adorable—and this rockstar-life is crazy happens, all while searching-for-the baby’s-mom stuff ensues.)

And then, there’s this day—this one day—where Royce kisses Robin. When he should not have touched her (duh). And Robin—because she’s only human and Royce is this super-hot silver-eyed rockstar—she kisses him back. This one kiss makes everyone’s ‘secret’ dominoes all fall down. The paparazzi already has questionable photos, and they write a big story, hinting incorrectly that Robin’s job up in the rockstar-hotel suite is…inappropriate. (okay, that was a big book one spoiler—so sorry, but I am trying.) Then, BAM. Poof. Trouble. Robin’s also been outed to the police back home as a runaway, and now she is a possible kidnapper of her own brother! She risks losing custody of Sage forever. The new family (the Perinos) who sheltered them and whom Robin now loves, nearly gets exposed by the press for their own sad and secret pasts—all because Robin let this family help her. Worse, if people believe the Rumors about Robin, Guarderobe will be breach of contract—for keeping ‘working girls’ on staff! It’s all rumors and lies of course, but people—fans—the world—they love lies. Especially if it means careers and futures are getting ruined. And these are the kind of stories no one would ever forget—so Robin and the Perinos would be ruined forever.

There. How’s that for telling ‘all’ with ‘very few spoilers’? This little note has taken me days of fretting. Days!

So…if you are curious about book one, go read it now. Turn back here. Anything past this spot including the first chapters of Runaway Heart is filled with the big spoilers. Last chance! I WARNED YOU. :)

Book Two, Runaway Heart, begins moments after Runaway Girl ends, just after Royce has proposed, and Robin has quickly agreed, because the marriage appears to fix everything that’s going wrong. There’s going to be a super-fast wedding. Bigger lies will be told. More secrets will need to be kept.

Sending all my love from Colorado, USA, to you and your dreamy, fairy-tale-loving, rockstar romance-reading, awesome big hearts.
