Uncaged (Havoc MC Book 1) by L.A. Boles (19)

Chapter Nineteen

Savy

Parties thrown by Havoc are wild, and tonight is no different. There are sweetbutts all around trying to entice a brother into sleeping with them. I’m sitting at the bar with Ena. We’ve been laughing all night, especially at Caleb. He nearly lost his mind when Ena came out of her room wearing skimpy shorts, a Havoc t-shirt and my black boots. She already looks older than seventeen. When she’s wearing makeup, she looks even older. She’s not wearing enough make up to look slutty, but enough to ensure that the brothers notice her. I wish she would stay my baby sister forever, but she’s getting older. She’ll be an adult soon, so I don’t say anything. Thankfully, that didn’t stop Caleb from threatening to lock her in her room if she didn’t put on some more fucking clothes. I’ll let him be the bad guy right now. I just get to be her older sister for once and it feels nice. I love just spending time with her and not having to worry about what kind of person she is becoming.

“Did you see how pissed he was?” Ena asks laughing.

“Ena, don’t go pissing Caleb off.”

“I won’t, I won’t,” she says.

After being quiet for a while, she reveals, “I like having someone who cares about me, Savy. I mean, someone other than you.” In an instant, unshed tears are brimming in her eyes. A look of pain flashes across her flawless face. And it hurts. The vice returns. It tightens so much that I clinch my hands into tight white fists. This is the first time Ena has expressed her pain. She’s been having sessions with Preacher, but she’s never told me how she feels about the life we’ve been living.

I feel guilty.

I made the choice to leave Georgia, but Ena didn’t. For years I have been dragging her from place to place, running. And she never questioned me. She’s been a trooper the entire time, but deep down she was hurting, too.

“I’m sorry, Ena,” I say. “I never gave you a choice. I just ran, but I knew I couldn’t leave you behind.”

“Please, not tonight, Savy. I want tonight to be awesome. This is just going to spoil it. Can we talk about this tomorrow?”

“Of course, baby girl.”

A hand touches my hair and I turn. It’s not Caleb. I know his touch anywhere. I twist to see who is touching me.

Kris.

“Don’t touch me,” I say. Moving my head to the side causes her delicate hand to fall from my hair.

“What? I’ve never felt hair like yours. I wanted to see what it feels like.”

“You see, Kris, that is a problem. You don’t just go around touching people without their permission.”

A sick smile slinks across her face, and a knot forms in the pit of my stomach. It’s the same feeling I have had in the past. Something bad is about to happen, and I don’t like it. But I’m ready.

Always ready.

“I just wanted to talk to our new ol’ lady is all,” Kris says.

Cocking my eyebrow, I don’t say a word. I make sure my eyes are trained on Kris. I don’t want to be caught off guard. With a crazy person that is the worst thing you can do. I feel Ena tense behind me. She may be young, but she’s been training with Caleb, Joker and I. She’s good and fast. I know if I need her to help fight off this crazy bitch, she’ll be there for me.

“Nothing to say, huh? It seems you always have something to say. I’m surprised at you, Sav.”

“My name is Savy,” I say evenly, “You’re better off leaving right now, Kris. Don’t start any more shit.”

“I’m finishing the shit you started when you and that little whore you call a sister came around.”

As quickly as the words leave her mouth, I’m moving. Throwing my body at her, I grab her by her thin throat and squeeze. As we fall to the ground, I’m on top of her still squeezing as Kris fights for breath. She is scratching and slapping, trying to free herself from my hold. Her fighting does nothing to loosen my grip though. Behind me, I hear pounding boots as several of the brothers make their way toward the commotion.

“Stay the fuck back, bitch!” Ena yells.

“She’s going to kill her!” Hazel screams in return.

“Good! That bitch deserves it!”

I feel sharp nails scratching at my shoulders, but I ignore the pain. I want Kris to get the message. I’m tired of her coming around and starting trouble. Her calling Ena a whore was the last straw. I don’t care how much she has to say about me, but when you attack a teenager, especially my teenager, you get dealt with.

“Oh no you don’t!” Ena yells and I hear another loud commotion. “I told you to stay the fuck back!”

A sickening thud sounds as Ena knocks Hazel to the floor. They’re rolling round in a heap of slaps and punches as I continue to choke Kris. I don’t want her to die though so I loosen my hold before she passes out, but she’s too stupid to realize she’s lost. As I move to get off of her, she punches me in the face. The metallic taste of blood fills my mouth, and I see red. I kick and punch Kris where she is laying on the floor. I let all of my anger and rage go as I release it on this woman who has harassed me since I arrived.

“Diablo!” someone yells.

“Get the fuck out of the way!”

As I continue to punch Kris, I’m lifted off my feet and I tense, prepared to fight off the person grabbing me, but he pulls my head toward his face and says, “Stop, little bird.”

I go limp in his arms.

“Are you hurt?” The chaos around me has ended and Preacher is helping Kris while Skull and Wolf are pulling apart Ena and Hazel.

“Ena,” I say.

“She’s all right. Can’t say the same for Hazel though.”

“My hand hurts.” Hissing, as I speak, I feel my split lip, “And my lip.”

Caleb carries me to his bathroom, and he sits me gingerly on the toilet. Looking down at my hand, I clinch and release my fist, testing it to see if it’s broken. It’ll be swollen tomorrow, but it’s not broken. Thank goodness. The last thing I need is a cast.

“Savy, you can’t go beating up the sweetbutts. I know Kris is a bitch, but you’re my ol’ lady and you need to set the example.” Caleb takes my chin and lifts my face until I’m in a position where he can examine my face.

“She got you good,” he says.

“Yeah. That won’t happen again.”

“You’re right because you won’t be fighting anymore,” he reprimands.

“Sure, Caleb,” I whisper.

“I know you’re just saying that, but I’m serious. I can’t have my ol’ lady beating up the girls. Plus, Ena was fighting too. What the hell was that about?” he asks.

I explain how Kris touched me and what she said about Ena. His eyes intensify, but he says nothing. He just continues to check me over.

“You’re all good. Ready to check on Ena?”

“Yes,” I say. I’m glad I don’t have to ask him to take me to check on Ena. He knows how much she means to me and takes me there without me having to ask.

Ena is in Skull’s room, sitting on the bed. Skull is crouching in front of her, icing her left hand. She also has a split lip.

“Savy, are you all right?” Ena asks as we enter the room.

“Yes. Are you?”

“I’m great!” she squeals with excitement. “That was awesome.”

“Ena.”

“Kid.”

“Ena.”

Skull, Caleb, and I all say at the same time.

“What?” she asks. Her eyebrows are knitted in confusion, her lips pursed.

“No more fighting, kid,” Caleb says.

“Sure, Diablo.”

“What the hell is it with you two?” he asks. “I mean it, kid. There will be consequences.”

“Oh like what? Being locked in the Compound?” she asks sarcastically.

“No, it will be worse,” Caleb says. But not in a scary biker way. He speaks to Ena like a little sister. Right now, he’s not Diablo, he is Caleb, my old man, and Ena’s brother. If I think about it too long, it creeps me out. I’m sleeping with Caleb and Skull wants to sleep with Ena. It’s like a big dysfunctional family, but we will make it work I’m sure.

“I didn’t have time to tell you, but you can go back to work, Savy,” Caleb says, changing the subject.

Turning toward him, with wide eyes I scream with excitement. “Really?” I ask in awe. I’ve been stuck inside these walls for so long, I was going crazy. I can’t wait to get back to normal.

“Yes, really. And Ena, you can hang out with your friends again.”

She jumps up and down in excitement, too.

“But,” Caleb starts, “You both will have heavy protection and Ena you aren’t to go anywhere without Aero and Mack. You got me?”

“Yeah, I got you.” She doesn’t care that two prospects will be there. She’s just excited to be let out of the cage.

“Good,” he says. “Now, can you two stop fighting Kris and Hazel?”

Ena looks at me and Caleb notices the look on her face.

“What kid?” he asks.

“Uh…” she starts and then stops.

I’m not sure what she is going to say, but I’m sure it can’t be good. I begin shaking my head no, but Caleb sees me.

“What the fuck is going on?” he asks again. This time he is more impatient than before.

“Uh…” she starts and stops again.

“McKena, you better start talking,” Caleb says again, but now he’s using his president voice. Diablo is in full effect.

“Uh, hasn’t Savy told you what Kris has been doing? She’s been starting shit for weeks and Savy finally snapped.”

I want to slap my hand over her mouth to keep her from talking, but it’s too late. Caleb knows what’s been going on.

“Savy, why didn’t you say anything?” His voice is calm and goose flesh breaks out across my skin. He is still Diablo right now, he’s not my sweet and caring Caleb.

“I didn’t want to bother you, Caleb. You’ve been so nice with sheltering Ena and I and helping look for Tyler and Paul that I didn’t want to bother you with another thing I couldn’t handle.”

“You always come to me when something is wrong, yeah?” he asked a question, but the command is clear. If I have trouble of any kind, I need to talk to him.

“This is my club and you’re my ol’ lady. Whatever you are going through is my problem,” he says. “Now, tell me everything.”

I spend the next few minutes telling him about Kris’ antics and as I continue to speak, he becomes angrier and angrier. It’s scary as fuck, but I tell him because I promised to be honest with him.

“Skull, bring Kris into the chapel.”

As Skull leaves the room, he looks at Ena in the eyes and says, “You better tell me the next time someone fucks with you, got me?”

She nods her head, unable to force the words out of her constricted throat.

“Are you mad at me?” she asks.

“Of course not. It needed to be told.” I needed to tell Caleb about Kris and Hazel’s activities. I’m glad Ena wasn’t too prideful to speak out. I’m a little torn though. I don’t want to always have girls challenging my position in the club because they want what I have.

Diablo.

Little do they know, I love Diablo, but it’s the man behind the cut, the man underneath it all that I truly love.

Caleb.

“Caleb, are you going to kick Kris out of the club?” I ask.

“Club business,” he replies.

Letting out an audible sigh, I begin, “If you kick her out, I’ll look weak.”

He doesn’t respond so I continue, “Please let me deal with it. I promise if it gets out of hand, I’ll tell you.”

Without saying a word, he nods his head, bends down and sears me with a kiss. Caleb exits the room, leaving me with a scared looking Ena.
