Blindsided (The Sisters Series Book 1) by Mortimer, Holly (19)

Chapter Twenty-One

I lazed around for a good part of the morning getting used to the quiet and the cabin’s amenities.  Around eleven I had a bite to eat and had just decided to have a nap when I received a phone call.  I looked at the call display and smiled.  Finn had programmed his number into my contacts with a hilarious picture of him making a funny face into the phone.

“Hi,” I answered just as he was about to hang up.

“Hi yourself,” he answered.  “I sure hope the reason you took so long to answer wasn’t because you were wandering around outside?”

I sighed.  “No, I was just in a bit of a trance.  I was about to drift off to sleep and heard the phone ringing and then wasn’t entirely sure who put this crazy picture of you on my phone.  I thought I was dreaming and then panicked as I realized I wasn’t and I needed to actually answer the damn phone.  So, there, that’s why I took so long.”

“Sorry, babe. I’m just worried about you all alone out there.”

“Stop worrying.  I’m fine.”  It actually felt nice to have someone worry over me.  That hadn’t happened since I was a child.  “When you get back, I can spend some time proving to you just how well rested and fit I have become this morning.”

I heard him bite back a growl and smiled to myself.  Me, Georgina Windsor was making Finn fucking Lowry horny.  I bit my lip to keep from squealing like a lovesick tween.

“George, darling, you aren’t ready yet.”

“Why don’t you let me be the judge of that.”

“I am the reason you are injured and I will make damn sure I am not the reason you become re-injured”

“Finn, you aren’t the reason. Some crazy assed stalker fan is the reason.  You can’t help that.”

“I should have been with you and paid closer attention to the fan mail.”

“Oh please, there is no way you can spend enough time in a day reading all that delusional mail and furthermore, you can’t be with me 24 hours a day.”

“Sure I could.”

“Like hell you could.  I wouldn’t let you.  You aren’t going to suffocate me based on some crazy sense of responsibility, Finn.”

“That’s not what it is George.”  I heard someone call for him in the background.  “Listen, just promise me you are staying close to the cabin and won’t leave until we leave together?  Just humour me on this today, please?  I’m dealing with a whole load of shitheads here at work today and I just want one less thing to worry about.”

I didn’t say anything.  I had enjoyed my freedom for very long time.  This was starting to feel slightly suffocating and the butterflies in my stomach were turning slightly sour.

“Baby, please?  For me?”  Ugh, the butterflies were back and they were happily flying around banging into each other putting me off balance.

“Fine.”  I had to hold onto some of my dignity.  I wouldn’t turn to mush over the phone just yet.

“Thanks.  I’ve got to go. I’ll see you as soon as I can.  Are you making out ok?”

“Yes, I’m fine.  Going to take a nap and then see what I can write for the rest of the day.  Please don’t worry about me.  I’m not good at accepting that, Finn.”

We hung up and I flopped back down into that amazing bed again. What was I getting myself into?  Was this a huge mistake?  Crazed fans wanting to kill me, nervous boyfriend, wait, was that what he was to me now?  I decided to file that question away for another day and plowed ahead with my list of all the reasons I shouldn’t get involved with Finn.

Crazy schedule.  Well, that didn’t matter much to me.  I enjoyed my freedom and spare time alone in a relationship. Ok, well, great, now I was talking myself out of all my protests.

I groaned and rolled over just as my phone chirped a text again and again, and again.  I reached out and grabbed it and smiled.  It was from him again.  I unlocked the screen and felt the sweetest emotion bubble up, begging to be let out.

It was series of pictures from him holding up pieces of paper that he had written notes on.  The first one said:  My darling George.

 Next one:  Sorry

Third and final one:  Falling for you babe and a little smiley face with a heart drawn next to it.

I took a deep breath and decided what to text back.  I knew he would be waiting for a reply and the notes were short but said so much.  He was willing to see my side.  He was falling for me, I was falling for him and we both were a little unsure of how to proceed.

Already fallen for you.

I hit send before I could talk myself out of that one and rolled over and promptly fell asleep.
