Chapter Seven

I wake to banging on my door. Not just any banging, but my manager Karina’s banging. This isn’t good. Why is she here this late? I turn over but quickly roll back. Oh crap. My eyes snap open and land on the alarm clock.

9:02 a.m.

I am dead.

Not only is Karina downstairs with the “special person,” but Caleb is sleeping in my bed naked. It’s all downhill from here. I wiggle free from his grasp and slide out of bed. Caleb wakes just as I’m pulling on my robe.

I point to him as if he was a bad dog. “Stay here. Whatever happens, remain in this room until I come back for you.” I quickly leave the room skipping steps to open the front door. I don’t know how bad I am shaking until my hand is on the doorknob.

“Took you lo—why aren’t you dressed? I told Anna you needed to be ready by eight sharp. Where is she?” she hisses.

“Anna…she—I sent her home early last night. She told me everything, but I must have overslept.” I clear my throat, letting her in followed by this tall, skinny guy.

I didn’t know she got herself an assistant. Other than his build he’s gorgeous. Dirty blond hair and icy blue eyes, an assistant this handsome should help her…get laid. Lord knows she needs it. She has been a tight ass for the last two weeks.

“That’s an understatement. Come have a seat.” I close the door behind me and follow the two into the living room like a sad puppy. At least she hasn’t hinted at firing me as a client.

“Selena this is Ri—”

“Richard? What are you doing here?”

Nope, this isn’t happening. This is not real. I turn around slowly to see Caleb standing in his boxer-briefs. Kill me now.

“I should be asking you that question. I called you damn near twenty times this morning. Now I see why you haven’t answered. Well, there is no need to rush and meet me since you have found your way to the person we were meeting’s house,” Richard says matter-of-factly. Karina clears her throat and I turn to look at her.

“A word, Selena.” She gets up and I am right behind her. We enter the kitchen and she’s in one of her no-room-for-argument moods. “I told you to have dinner with him, get to know him…not sleep with him. What the hell were you thinking?”

“We did have dinner. He really wanted dessert. Like, really wanted dessert and wasn’t taking no for an answer.” It wasn’t my fault he wanted dessert, and I just couldn’t keep it away from him.

“Maybe—”

She stops talking as Caleb walks into the kitchen…still in his underwear. He goes to the coffee maker, turning it on. As he grabs four cups out the cabinet I can’t help but admire his semi-naked body. Just looking at him gives me flashbacks of last night. He made me come four times. Once before the nap and three times after…I was getting wet just thinking about it.

“Bedroom.” I shake my head lightly to rid the dirty thoughts. Only to conjure up more dirty thoughts when I see the look in his eyes. He couldn’t possibly know what I was thinking. “We need to put clothes on,” he says once he sees I am not moving.

“Right, silly me. We will be right back down,” I say to Karina as Caleb takes my hand, already heading for the staircase. She gives me a knowing look before going back to the living room.

“Make it quick,” Richard shouts. Oh God, he thinks we are going to screw while they are downstairs. I mean I want to, but not while Karina is here. She would have my ass for that.

“Who is Richard to you?”

“My agent, I didn’t know it was your house I was supposed to be at today. Richard said something about a business meeting at nine. I guess this is about our Calvin Klein photoshoot.”

“Oh.” I let the robe go and it falls in a puddle at my feet.

“Fuck.” I look to see Caleb growing a tent in his pants. “You look absolutely breathtaking.” He walks across the room, picking me up. I wrap my legs around his waist. He sits me on my desk, wiping it clear of scripts, pens, staplers, and other things.

He kisses me hard. His lips feel so good; I am completely breathless. Once again, my body is in flames. I hear Anna’s voice downstairs and freeze. She and Karina can never be in the same room for long without something happening…for the worse.

“What’s wrong?”

“We can’t do this. Not again.” I place my hand on his chest pushing him back. The look in his eyes tells me that’s not going to happen. He wants me, and he is going to have me. Whether it is for five minutes or more, I was going to walk out of the bedroom thoroughly fucked.

And I was right.

She knocks on the door once more. “Karina wants you both downstairs now. Apparently, what they have to tell you both neither of you will like.”

“Selena, really?” Anna kicks the door. Why is she still up here?

“Lovely for you two to join us an hour later.” If looks could kill, Karina would be charged with murder right now. I’ve never known her to stick around when it came to a client taking their sweet time, so whatever they had to tell us must be big…like Caleb’s co—.

“Now that you are down here, can you pay attention?” Karina snaps at me. This is so not like me, letting Caleb back in my life is asking for trouble. It’s throwing me off balance.

“Sorry.” I clear my throat looking over to Anna. She is standing by the fireplace smiling at me, suggestively moving her hips. If Karina saw her, she wouldn’t be looking so happy. “I apologize about today, Richard, this isn’t like me at all. I am always punctual and—”

“No need to explain. I know how Caleb can get; this isn’t the first time this happened.”

I think I just got slapped in the face. Of course, Caleb was screwing other women. He is an athlete, one of the highest paid, and very handsome. I googled him for crying out loud. I don’t know why Richard’s words sting the way they do.

“Oh…right.”

“I’m sure he is just being dramatic.” Caleb’s trying to defend himself but it’s too late, the damage has already been done.

“So, the reason why Richard and I wanted you two here is because with Calvin Klein photoshoot coming up—”

“We thought it would be best if you two are seen in the public eye as a couple before the shoot. Gets a good buzz going. Karina tells me you’ve never done something like this before, Selena. At first, I was skeptical that it was going to work out but, seeing that you two have such great chemistry, it’s a foolproof plan.”

“And to add on to what Richard is saying, if you two do this…that means more publicity for you both and more job opportunities.” Karina looks at me when she mentions the job opportunities. Of course.

“That sounds like a fantastic idea…too bad Caleb here has a girlfriend,” Anna voices.

“He doesn’t have a girlfriend, Anna.” He told me he doesn’t have one, and I believe him. Caleb has never lied to me before. But that was the old Caleb, and this is a new Caleb.

“Oh, right, Evelyn. She has been made aware of the plans and doesn’t mind. As long as you stick to the rules she has laid out for you both. But I think you broke rule number one already.” Richard smirks.

“So, you do have a girlfriend?” I turn to him, my face red. This is so embarrassing. He lied to me.

“Yes and no.”

“Which one is it? Because last night it was no, and I am pretty sure what we just did over the past twelve hours would classify you as a cheater and a filthy liar. So please enlighten everyone here…especially me.”

“No, I don’t have a girlfriend, but in a sense, I do. Evelyn has been my girlfriend on and off for three years. She knows all about my publicity stunts and never gets mad. She knows they are just that…the girls mean nothing and—holy shit, I didn’t mean to say that.”

“It’s cool. I wouldn’t put anything past this new Caleb.”

“Are you two done? Good. So, starting tomorrow, I have set up a dinner date for you two, and Richard here will call up the paps and tell them where you two will be. Now, whatever issues you two might have needs to get resolved before dinner tomorrow. Your ass is the main one on the line here, Sel. Don’t screw this up.” Karina stands up. “I’ll be in touch with you, Anastasia.”

Richard and Caleb stand as well, shaking each other hand. They exchange a few words then Richard is out the door next. I can see Caleb hanging back, but I have nothing to say to him. What a fucking prick!

“Sel—”

“I don’t want to speak to you right now. I’m pretty sure Evelyn isn’t going to be too happy after she finds out you fucked a publicity stunt.” I give him a cold smile. “Now get out of my house.”

“It isn’t li—”

“I said out!” I get up, pushing him to the open door. “I will play nice in front of the public, but behind closed doors, I hate you and want nothing to do with you…ever.” I slam the door in his face, locking it.

“Well that went great. I guess you want a glass of wine now.” Anna heads into the kitchen.

“Fuck the glass just give me the whole bottle.”
