That night they were talking about Tuco Moreno’s gang again, Los Perdidos. Apparently, they’d heard that El Rubio was spotted up near Seattle, Washington. They had also been looking for one of the member’s, Gunner. Wolf needed Gunner’s help, the last time he had spoken to any of them, he was heading to Washington. I heard bits and pieces of their conversation and it all came back to El Rubio. His name made my hands tremble. After that horrid night, I almost resigned myself to believe that I would never escape men like Nestor. When El Rubio came into Ravenous I was thrown back to those horrible nights growing up. Those men looked exactly like the men that surrounded Nestor. They had that look in their eyes, like they didn’t care who they hurt as long as they got what they wanted. They were brutal killers.
I overheard Wolf telling Riggs he was going to have to go for Gunner. He also told him to find out anything he could about El Rubio. My body shook at the thought of Riggs leaving me. I hadn’t been without him since he got back from Los Angeles, but this was going to be a longer trip. What if something happened again? What if Nestor came back?
I hadn’t thought about Nestor for a while, but I knew it was inevitable not to see him again. First, I had what he wanted the most-my parent’s money. It was only a matter of months before I could claim it.
I looked over at Riggs, his features sexily serious. I hadn’t needed anything but him in the last few months. He was my everything. I kept Riggs in the dark about the money because I didn’t want him involved in any more problems. I didn’t want him getting hurt because of me, he already had so much going on.
If Nestor ever found out I was even thinking of claiming the insurance, he’d come after me in a heartbeat. He always said I belonged to him. As long as I was worth those one hundred thousand dollars, then I was his. Greed killed, and there was no one greedier than my foster father. I was surprised he hadn’t come for me yet. The money could rot in the bank for all I cared, I didn’t want it. It was only going to bring me grief.
My eyes caught Riggs as he stood up and paced the floor.
“How do we know this information is legitimate. What if they’re just luring us away? Less men here means they can do whatever they want.”
Cain nodded. “Riggs has a point. I say Riggs goes and finds Gunner, they both go and find that lead. I stay here. You need manpower.”
Grayson shook his head. “The information I’m getting is from a known club up in Seattle. They check out, they’ve helped us before.”
Riggs scrunched his eyebrows. “I don’t know guys. Seattle’s a rough town, I doubt Rubio would go up there into unknown territory and enemy grounds. Shit, half of Washington loves Ravenous, they owe a lot to Wolf.”
Wolf stood up. “That’s on him. We still need to follow any lead. That’s why I need Gunner and Diesel. Shit, they’re my eyes and ears out there.”
“Diesel said he’s coming back as soon as he’s done in Vegas. He shouldn’t take too long now.”
I watched as the Lovers discussed the situation and silently prayed that Riggs wouldn’t be sent away. I looked up and his eyes caught mine. He winked at me and continued to talk.
A few hours later, I was finishing up and putting away some empty crates when I felt him. It’s like my body knew exactly where he was, letting me know my man was coming.
“Hey, baby girl.”
The deep rumble of his voice made me shiver and I turned to him. He didn’t say another word, just flipped the lock and strode over to me. He grabbed me by the waist, pulling me up to his hard chest and took my mouth in a deep kiss. His tongue tangled with mine, his hands stroked my back, and he pressed his hardness against my stomach. “Yes, Daddy,” I whisper. “When are you leaving?”
I felt him pause and take a breath before answering. “Tonight.”
I pulled back. “What?!”
“I have to, we can’t lose any more time.”
“But, so soon.”
“I’ve got Grayson and Wolf looking out for you. If you need anything, you let them know. Rhayne has also been notified to keep an eye on you. You’ll be safe. You’re in Grayson’s apartment complex, nothing’s going to happen to you there. Stay near Ravenous, and always leave with someone.”
He grabbed me again and hugged me tightly. “I couldn’t bare it if something happened to you. It’s already weighing down on me that I have to go.”
I wrapped my arms tightly around him and molded myself to him. He looked down on me and captured my lips once more.
