After All This Time: Love or Money by Brown, Brittainy (28)

Charlotte Meets Emily

Helping Liam to the bed was the most difficult thing Charlotte had ever done, but finally he was lying in down, still sulking about how much he missed Emily and how he wished things would go back the way they were.

“I am not usually like this Charlotte, trust me, I don’t know what has gotten into me,” he said in a drunken state. He was lying on the bed, covered in a blanket.

“It’s okay. Just go to bed, I will have a quick shower and probably spend the night here.”

“Okay, you can check for clean towels in my bathroom and new shirts in the closet. Thank you so much. I feel so terrible you had to go through this. I just feel so sick.”

“Yea. That is because you have drunk so much. You should go to bed and I don’t want to hear any more talk of Emily.”

Liam smiled. “You don’t really like her do you.”

Charlotte shrugged while heading to his closet and rummaging for new shirts.

“I don’t know if I like her or if I don’t. I never met her so, I don’t think it matters.”

Liam chuckled, half awake. “I think you two would have been good friends.”

She finally found a new shirt, one of the ones they had bought the last time they went shopping together.

“I doubt that we can be friends.”

“Really, why is that?”

She thought for a while before answering. “Because we both love the same man,” She waited for his response but all she got was a loud snore coming from him.

“Well, finally, but such odd timing.” She said before entering the bathroom.

Emily was still in tears when the cab driver stopped in front of Liam’s house. She had thought of giving him a call before coming but she kicked against that. Even if he wasn’t home, she was willing to wait for him.

She stepped out of the car and walked to the front door. The light in the living room was still on and she could as well see that the curtain of his room was raised. Knowing that he was awake gave her relief.

She opened the door and stepped into the house. She could hear the shower. He was definitely preparing to go to bed.

First of all, she rushed to the fridge to take a bottle of water which she gulped down hurriedly. Then the shower stopped and she closed the fridge while putting the bottle on the table. She had no idea what he was going to say but she didn’t care, she just needed him to forgive her, she was willing to do anything to make it work. Even though it was not even up to 24 hours since they had started their break, her heart was emptier than it has ever been. She needed him more than she has ever needed anyone and she didn’t even care about a stupid promotion anymore. She was willing to let it go as long as they had each other.

She stopped at the front of his room and was about to open the door when the door was flung open and a woman stepped out. For a while, she thought she was dreaming as she looked at the same lady she had seen earlier at the club. This time, she was in a blue shirt which she could tell must belong to Liam even though she had never seen him in it before.

“Oh my God!” she whimpered before the woman turned to see her. Worse was, the lady wasn’t a bit surprised to see her. It was like she knew her.

“Hi, you must be Emily, I’m Charlotte.”

Without saying anything, Emily turned and fled the house.

Charlotte watched as Emily rushed out of the house, slamming the door after her. She was surprised. What was she doing here anyway?

She walked into the living room and found the bottle of water on the table. Then she walked to the window and parted the curtain to see if she could actually see her outside but she couldn’t.

Finally, she lowered the curtain and went to lie on the couch. She began to imagine whatever the poor lady would be thinking in her mind. She tried to put herself in the lady’s shoes. How would she have felt if she had found another lady in her boyfriend’s room at that time of the night? She would probably be devastated but they broke up so why was she there?

Well, she must probably be trying to find a way to come back into his life. Perhaps, if she had waited, Charlotte would have explained why she had to find her there but with the way she rushed out, she knew things were going a wrong way.

She crossed her legs.

Should she tell Liam in the morning?

Okay, what were the things likely to happen once she told Liam?

Probably, Liam would run to her, apologize and explain that there was nothing in between them and that she was just a friend and then they would get back together.

'However, if she didn’t tell him then he would never know that she came and she would never want to talk to him ever again. She would think that Liam had probably moved on and was now with a new girlfriend. Most importantly, Emily would get to feel how it feels to take someone for granted and to lose someone that once meant the world to her. Liam would finally get the revenge he has always wanted and Emily could get the emotional punishment that she deserved. Now, that would be fun.
