“Daniel, what do you think?” Vanessa’s voice brings me back to our conversation. “Could I book an all-day girls' fishing trip with you?”
OK, so Vanessa has been trying to get into my pants ever since she found out that Mac was taken. She is a beautiful redhead with fake tits. Despite her good looks, she is a desperate woman. I’ve never been attracted to her sexually, but I’m not about to turn down a full charter.
“Sure, when do you have in mind?” I ask as I take out my phone.
“How soon can you do it?” she asks with a flirtatious tone.
Man, she doesn’t stop. Maybe I should introduce her to Carl. Glancing at my calendar, the soonest I can take her and her friends is in three weeks.
“How does three weeks from today sound?”
Now she moves up closer to me. Vanessa rubs her shoulder against my arm. “I don’t think we can wait that long.” Jesus, is anyone watching this? She is a freaking piece of work.
“Sorry, but I have a lot going on between now and then.”
She sticks her bottom lip out as if she’s pouting. Shit, my five-year-old does that.
“I guess I’ll have to check with the girls. I was hoping for next Saturday.”
“Vanessa, I don’t take anyone out on Saturdays. That’s the day I spend with my daughter.”
As soon as I mention Lucy, her demeanor changes. Just as it does with every other woman when they find out I have a little girl.
“Well, anyway. I’ll let you know, Daniel,” she says as she looks for a way out.
As soon as she moves on to the next victim, Murph takes her place.
“Hey man, what are you doing over here when your girl is over there talking to someone else?”
I look over at Nicole. That fucker Carl is certainly getting cozy. He is whispering something into her ear. “First of all, she’s not my girl. Second of all, if that asshole doesn’t put some space between them, then I will.”
Murph chuckles and slaps me on the back. “Thought so. Now why don’t you tell me what’s going on with you two?”
“It’s complicated. Or at least she seems to think it is. Turns out she’s Lucy’s teacher. If anyone at the school finds out that we’re more than friends, they’d move Lucy out of Nicole’s class.”
“OK, so why don’t you just move her out yourself? Problem solved.”
“I suggested it, but Nicole put her foot down. Apparently, my daughter is already making friends.”
“OK, I get that, but can’t you two sneak around for a while? Maybe you won’t end up liking each other after all.”
Before I can answer him, I notice Nicole getting up from the table. She heads toward the bathrooms. “Murph, I’ll be right back,” I say, not even looking at him.
I may look as if I’m casually making my way to the back of the bar, but in reality I can’t move fast enough. As soon as I get to the hall where the bathrooms are, I see the ladies room door close.
I wanted to get to her before she went in, but I guess I’ll have to wait now. We aren’t at that stage of our relationship where I can go into the bathroom with her.
Wait, relationship? Fuck yes, I want a relationship with her.
