From Ashes (Heathens Ink Book 3) by K.M. Neuhold (10)

Chapter 10

Adam

“Do you have any plans tonight?” I ask Nox as we clean up for the night.

Nox laughs.

“What plans would I have? You’re literally my only friend.”

“That’s not true,” I argue. “You and Madden are friends, and Gage is going to warm up to you eventually. And don’t forget Dani.”

“Okay, fair enough. My point stands that I wouldn’t have plans you didn’t know about.”

Something about that statement warms my center. I can almost convince myself I have some sort of claim over Nox. Not in an abusive or controlling way, but like he’s mine to care for.

“You up for an adventure with me?”

Nox’s eyes spark with excitement before he can school his expression to nonchalance.

“Depends what it is.”

“I’ve waited way too long for my first gay experience. Care to help me out with that?”

Nox’s cheeks pink and his eyes go wide. His tongue peeks out as he wets his lips and it’s all I can do not to pounce on him. I realize what my words must’ve sounded like and Nox seems into the idea.

“Um...uh...what...uh?” He stutters out an attempted response.

“I thought we’d hit a gay club. You know, dance, flirt. It’ll be fun.”

“Oh,” Nox’s face falls. “Yeah, that sounds fun.”

“Great. Do you know what I’m supposed to wear?”

Nox shrugs and then laughs.

“Hell if I know, I’ve never been either.”

“Great, we can both pop our cherries tonight then.”

Nox

I just about creamed my pants when I thought Adam was propositioning me. To my surprise a hint of fear accompanied the arousal when I realized I didn’t know exactly what Adam wanted from me.

Going to a club with Adam wasn’t what I thought he was asking for. But I’m flattered he chose me to share this experience. And like I told him, I’ve never been either. Not a lot of time for clubbing in my life. At least not like this.

When Harrison was wooing me we went to upscale clubs, stayed in the VIP section, and got bottle service. That’s not what tonight is about. This is two guys going out to dance and drink, maybe flirt a little.

My stomach drops as it occurs to me Adam meant flirting with other guys. That’s what makes the most sense. Why would he take me out to a club where there are hundreds of hot guys and only flirt with me? Oh god, is he going to hook up with someone tonight? I know he said he’s never been with a guy before, but maybe that’s what he meant by his first gay experience. He’s going to find some cute guy to get on his knees for him.

Bile rises in my throat at the thought. Both at the image of Adam with a man who isn’t me, and of Adam behaving like the men I’ve gone down on. Picturing Adam with a malicious glint in his eye forcing a young, drunk guy to take his cock deeper, gagging him with it until he can’t breathe, is enough to make me sick.

“Hey, are you about ready to go?” Adam asks from the other side of my bedroom door.

“Almost,” I call out, forcing myself to calm down. Adam doesn’t seem like that type of guy. He’s sweet and good.

I grab a black t-shirt out of my closet and tug it on before checking myself in the mirror. I don’t know what guys normally wear clubbing but I figure I can’t go wrong with a t-shirt and jeans that make my ass look great.

I tug open the door and find Adam standing there in a blue button down shirt with the top few buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up to show off his ink. My eyes continue on to his form fitting jeans that are showing off an enticing yet discrete bulge.

“Wow,” I breathe.

“Thank you. You look pretty wow yourself.”

“Thanks.”

“Ready to go?” he asks when I’m unable to do anything other than stand and stare at him.

“Yeah.”

I shouldn’t be surprised that on a Saturday night the club is packed. Everywhere I look there are half naked men, dancing, groping, flirting. The pheromones are thick in the air. People are here looking to get laid and no one is pretending otherwise.

“Want a drink?” Adam asks, having to shout in my ear so I can hear him over the music.

I nod and follow him toward the bar.

As we wind between sweaty bodies I notice so many men turning their heads, eyes roaming hungrily over Adam. I can’t blame them, but it doesn’t mean I like it.

“Haven’t seen you here before, sexy. What can I get for you?” the bartender asks, eyeing Adam like he’s made of chocolate.

“I’ll have whatever’s on tap. Nox?”

“Water please,” I add.

“This is crazy, I didn’t expect it to be so crowded,” Adam says near my ear.

I shiver at the feeling of his breath against my neck and inch closer under the guise of making room for people to shove past.

Once we get our drinks we find a slightly less crowded corner so we can people watch for a few minutes and take it all in.

“There are a lot of guys here. Are you looking for someone to hook up with?” Wow, real subtle, Nox, great job.

“Nah, just wanted to hang out with you, maybe dance?”

I nod in agreement, all too pleased with the idea of Adam grinding up on me.

Adam chugs down his drink and then sets the empty glass on an abandoned table before grabbing my hand and dragging me toward the dance floor.

I’ve never danced before but it doesn’t look too difficult.

Adam’s arms go around me and to my surprise his front presses up against my back. My ass snugged to his hips. It only takes a few seconds for a tell-tale hardness to wedge itself against me and steal my breath.

For a second I forget what we’re supposed to be doing until Adam’s hands are on my hips, guiding me in time to the pulsing beat of the techno music.

I melt into Adam, letting his movement and the music guide me. I’m hard as steel as his hands wander over my hips and stomach not staying in any one spot for too long. I want to turn around in his arms and lick his skin, taste his salty sweat. I want to suck his lips and taste his tongue. I want to grind our cocks together until our seed mixes, coating our stomachs as we come.

My cock throbs in the confines of my jeans and I have to wrench myself out of Adam’s grasp to keep from embarrassing myself right there on the dance floor.

“I need more water,” I call out in way of explanation before fleeing from temptation. I need to get a grip. Adam has been nothing but kind and helpful to me, I owe him better than treating him like nothing more than a John.

I reach the bar and flag down the bartender for another bottle of water. While I’m waiting a man sidles up beside me. If I had to describe my type it would be the opposite of this guy. He’s beefy and bald with a mustache that seems to be in business for itself. His smile feels creepy and predatory. I try to inch away without being too obvious but he either doesn’t notice or doesn’t get the subtle hint.

“Hey, baby. Let me buy you a drink.”

“No thanks, I’m just drinking water.”

“You’re at a bar,” he points out.

“Yeah, I’m here to dance. Not that I have to explain myself to you.”

“You’re a mouthy one, aren’t you,” his eyes light and he reaches out and grabs my arm. When his fingers wrap around my wrist his nose scrunches in distaste. “The fuck, dude?”

He drops my arm and a simultaneous feeling of relief and shame washes over me.

“This guy bothering you?” Adam asks from behind me.

“No. I think I need some air.” I’m not sure I say it loud enough for Adam to hear me but I don’t wait to find out. The club is suddenly too crowded, it’s stifling.

As soon as I’m outside I take a deep breath, willing my frantic heart to calm down. That was way too many emotions to experience in such a short period, especially for someone who’s spent their life numbing emotions with dope.

“Nox,” Adam calls my name as he steps out of the club, looking around until his gaze lands on me, leaning against the side of the building.

“Hey, you didn’t need to come after me. I needed a second but I was going to come back.”

“Did that guy hurt you?” Adam asked, his expression thunderous.

“No. He grabbed my arm but he didn’t hurt me,” I assure him.

“Then what’s wrong?”

My throat tightens and I look down at my scarred arms.

“I’m hideous. No one is ever going to want me like this,” I admit my fear, eyes remaining downcast. I can’t look at Adam while I throw this pity party. I’m self-conscious enough as it is.

Adam steps into my personal space and forces my face up so I can’t avoid his gaze. He trails his index finger down my arm, carefully caressing every inch of marred skin.

“You are perfect. Anyone would be lucky to be with you, to touch you.”

I shiver of pleasure runs up my spine at his gentle touch and kind words. Surely he’s just being nice. He can’t mean that he would want to touch me. Not like I want him to anyway.

“Why are you so nice to me?”

“Because…” Adam looks like he’s struggling to explain.

“Because I remind you of Johnny?” I ask in a shaky voice.

Adam looks stricken like he’s had bucket of water dumped on him. He pulls back his touch and takes a step away to give me space.

“Yeah, because of Johnny,” he agrees. “Do you want to dance some more or are you ready to call it a night?”

“I’m kind of tired.”

Adam nods in understanding and tilts his head toward the parking lot. I push off the wall and follow him, trying not to let my disappointment suffocate me.
