Chapter 3
Not Twenty Anymore

Kian

It was a surprise to all of them, that they made it through the night without incident. Mike actually behaved. He danced Savannah’s feet off until she was begging good-naturedly for a break. Kian wasn’t much of a dancer himself, and Katelyn knew that. She waited patiently, content to sit and watch their friends and the other guests at the wedding enjoy the action.

Because he didn’t want the night to pass them by completely, he took her hand and led her to the floor. It was after one in the morning and so much closer to leaving. He couldn’t wait. Having Katelyn all to himself at the hotel room was something he’d longed for the entire day.

“You saved me a slow dance after all.” Katelyn stared up at him through the soft fringe of sweet blonde eyelashes.

“Yes. Just for you.”

“I never asked you for one.”

“No, but I knew.”

“If you can read my mind, what am I thinking now?”

“You’re thinking,” he leaned in suggestively. “You’re thinking that you can’t wait to get out of here. You’re thinking that another hour is going to feel like forever.”

Katelyn’s smile lit up the entire darkened barn. Lord, she was every bit as beautiful as she’d ever been. Even more so, now that he knew her. He knew her gentle soul and her faithful heart. He knew her as the mother of his children. And she knew him. Some people thought familiarity was boring. Some people thought the passion faded with time and life and children. They were wrong. Dead wrong.

“I was thinking that maybe we should say goodbye and get out of here. Mike and Savannah look like they’re ready to head out too. One is late enough. I don’t think anyone would be offended.”

“Heather and Rone probably wish they could have gone hours ago too.”

“Probably. Getting married is exhausting work.”

“I wasn’t talking about that.”

“Oh, I know. I’m trying to be polite.”

“Well, let’s say our goodbyes then. If I wait another hour here, I’m not going to make it.”

“You mean you’ll die along the way?” Katelyn arched a delicate blonde brow.

“Something like that. Die a little inside probably. I know that we have to pick up our kids tomorrow morning at eleven and I am going to make every single moment with you count. I want to start making them count.”

“Alright then. I’m in. Let’s convince Mike and Savannah to go. We might as well share a cab since we’re at the same hotel.”

“Good idea” He guided Katelyn back to the table where Mike and Savannah sat. Savannah did look tired, tired but happy. Mike had a pained expression on his face, probably close to what Kian had going on, like the blue balls were getting seriously close to being life threatening.

“Ready to go?” Mike asked hopefully.

“More than ready,” Kian confirmed.

“I’ll call us a cab if you both go say goodbye to Heather and Rone.” Katelyn suggested with a hope of being on their way as soon as possible.

“Good idea. Multitasking. I like it.”

“My feet are killing me,” Savannah complained. “I don’t know why I thought heels were a good idea.”

“I would have been lost if I’d tried that. I can’t walk in them for more than a few hours. These flats are chaffing the back of my feet though.”

“Time to take them off.” Mike winked. “We’ll meet you out front. Have that cab ready by the time we’re back.”

“Yes your highness.”

Katelyn giggled. Kian watched her take Savannah’s hand and guide her towards the exit. He and Mike had to wait a few minutes to wish Heather and Rone goodbye, since a few other guests had the same idea.

It was nearly fifteen minutes before they could join their wives outside, but as promised, there was a cab waiting.

It was almost a twenty minute ride back from the venue, which was on the outskirts of the city, to their hotel. They’d rented something not exactly close to home, but not far either.

Mike and Savannah said their own goodnight and were let off on the fourth floor. Kian and Katelyn continued up to eight.

When the door to their room finally shut, he breathed a sigh that was something close to relief.

“I’m actually pretty tired,” Katelyn said apologetically. “We’re not twenty anymore.”

“What’s age? I don’t care if we’re twenty or a hundred. It’s not going to change that in a minute you’re going to be completely naked and completely wide awake.”

“That’s quite a promise.”

“Do you doubt me?”

“Not at all.”

They stepped forward at the same time, tangling their bodies together. She threw her arms around his neck and tugged his face down to hers. Their mouths locked in a passionate kiss that was so rough their teeth clashed together. He suckled her bottom lip before he nipped her. She whimpered and bit him back a second later.

His hands fondled her body, up her arms, across to her back. He undid the zipper of her navy blue dress and slid the sleek fabric away. It fell to the floor, pooling around her ankles.

She’d dressed in private that morning. He’d been trying to get the kids ready to take them over to The Fiacco’s. Clearly Katelyn anticipated their night alone together. She’d bought something new, to surprise him with. A sexy red lace bra and panty set that sat on her glorious curves like they’d been painted on. Her creamy skin looked even sweeter, creamy and flawless, than it normally did.

“Do you like it?” she asked breathlessly, taking a step back.

“Like it?” he breathed. “Like wouldn’t be the right word, but if I’m going to use it, let me tell you that I’d like them far more if they were in a heap on the floor.”

“You’re impossible.”

“I know.” He reached around behind Katelyn’s back and undid the clasp on her bra. It fell away, exposing the most perfect pair of breasts. Her pink tingled nipples already stood out, hard and begging for his mouth.

Not yet. He’d give her that later. His hand trailed lower, down her sweetly rounded stomach and hips, to her panties. She was so very warm, burning for him. The hard clench of desire clamped down on his own chest and stomach. He’d tried to keep his anticipation in check all day, and now that he could let it go, it was almost physically as painful as it was before. His cock ached. He ached to be inside of her.

“You know, maybe we should rethink it.”

“What’s that?” He asked, voice deep and gravelly.

“Having another baby.”

He groaned. “I don’t know what we should rethink, but I sure as hell wouldn’t mind the trying.”

“Our girls are far from babies now. I wouldn’t mind having another newborn in the house.”

“You had a difficult time being pregnant.”

Katelyn’s eyes flashed. “Not anything risky. It just sucks to be sick for nine month. But like you said, I sure would like trying.”

“Then let’s try.”

“What? Are you serious?”

“If you are.”

“I don’t know if I am. I’m being silly. I just… what I really want is to feel you inside of me with nothing else there. No barriers. Just you.”

He groaned. “Lord, Katelyn. If you talk like that, I’m not even going to get inside of you.”

“Yes you will. We both know that you can go for hours.”

“It’s been a long time since we did that.”

“You still have all your clothes on.”

Kian was already working on that. His hands flew over the buttons of his light blue dress shirt. He would have just torn the damn thing off, but was mindful that Katelyn had just bought it. She wasn’t likely to appreciate him ruining it on the first wear.

His pants joined his shirt in a bunched up pile on the floor. He peeled off his socks and stripped off his boxers and stood proudly naked before his wife. He always loved how her eyes widened and her lips parted just a little when she looked at him. He loved the instant hunger, the darkening of her irises, the sharper, harder, raspier breaths.

“Well? You said a minute… I still seem to have my panties on.”

Kian swept her up in his arms. He didn’t stop until he’d laid her flat out on the bed. She inched up, pulling herself towards the headboard. He grabbed her ankles and pulled her back towards the edge.

She giggled as his hand curled around her calf. He knew how ticklish she was there. The giggles stopped when his hand continued up her thigh, up to her panties. He stroked her there, amazed as always, at how hot she was.

“Are you sure about this?” He asked. He was ready to reach for the roll of condoms in his overnight bag. Katelyn hadn’t gone back on the pill after having their daughter.

“Not at all. Are you ready to go back to sleepless nights and dirty diapers?”

He didn’t hesitate at all. “Yes. You know I would love another baby.” They’d talked about it before. Many times, always as a sort of abstract that they knew one day would happen.

“Then I guess I’ll suffer through another nine months of being sick if I have to.”

“We won’t concentrate on that now. Maybe it will be a boy and you won’t be sick at all. Some people say that.”

“I could always hope.”

Katelyn looked up at him, complete adoration in her eyes. The heat burned bright there, her desire for him rivaled his own.

“I’m really glad that I’m not twenty anymore.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because this is the best part of my life. Right here with you. We both had our demons. We both had our share of grief and heartbreak and then somehow, through some miracle, we have this. Two beautiful children, each other, a good life. I have every blessing, everything that I never thought I’d have again.”

Katelyn was silent for a moment then she extended her arms. “I love you, Kian.”

He didn’t hesitate to kneel on the bed and wrap her up in his arms. He held her for a long time, inhaling the sweet scent of her hair and her skin, before he claimed her mouth in the scorching kiss he’d waited for the entire day.
