LUCY by Danielle James (19)

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Nora’s legs trembled as she disappeared up the stairs. She told us to see ourselves out when we wanted to leave. I laughed and looked at Chase. “So maybe you are as fucked in the head as I am.” He wrapped his strong arm around me and kissed my lips. His kisses made me dizzy.

“Maybe. I think the temptation of beautiful twins is too much for any man to withstand. Nobody is more beautiful than you though, Lucy.” The way he stared at me took my breath away. When he looked at me, I felt whole. I felt normal and not like a collage of jagged fucked up pieces.

“I love you,” I stroked the side of his face.

“I love you too.” He kissed my forehead and slid his fingers down my golden body chain. “This is a sexy chain.”

“Thank you,” I laughed. “Can you stay here tonight with me, Chase?”

“Of course. I’m wherever you are from now on. You’re home for me.” He rubbed his nose against mine, and my stomach fluttered. I rubbed the back of his neck up and down, up and down. His skin was smooth under my palms.

We went upstairs to my room and I laughed when I heard the shower running. “I think we were a little too hot for Nora. She’s going to put the stick back up her ass tomorrow, I bet.”

“Nora? Nah. Nora’s a freak.”

“Closet freak. That was a very rare appearance from the part of Nora that shares my DNA. Most of the time she’s way more reserved than I am. That was a first. We’ve never done that before.”

“Was it weird for you?” He asked, running his fingers through my hair while I unbuttoned his shirt. I shook my head and unbuttoned his sleeves. I knelt before him and he raised an eyebrow. I just wanted to hug him though.

“Nora is like another part of me. Kissing her and touching her is nothing for me. Was it weird for you?” I asked. Chase buried his nose in my hair and inhaled like I was the sweetest flower in the world.

“Nope. It was sexy as fuck. I think we need to invest in condoms though.” His laugh lit me up inside. “Come here, Crazy.” He pulled me onto his lap. “You know I only want you, right? I don’t care how much Nora looks like you, she’s not you.” My heart swelled in my chest and I nodded. “That moment was fun but I don’t want that on the regular. My heart lives here,” he tapped two fingers against my chest and I smiled, pulling those long fingers to my lips.

“How did I fall so hard and fast for you, Chase?”

“I don’t know, but I’m not complaining. Nothing you do is slow and steady.” He was right about that. I was fine being his friend until I realized I loved him. Until I realized I looked forward to him and I needed him to feel normal.

“I’m so grateful you came along when you did but I’ll always wish I could start life over again and meet you sooner so I could have more time with you.” He smiled, touched by my words. He nuzzled his big head against my hand.

“We have the rest of our lives together though, Lucy.” He squeezed me tight and I felt dizzy with joy.

“Do we?” I asked quietly.

“Yes. We do.”

“What if I’m too crazy for you?”

“Never.”

“What if I have too many demons for you to handle?” I looked up at him. His eyes shone so brightly. Too many emotions crammed themselves into my throat for me to breathe properly. I tried to swallow them away but they wouldn’t budge.

“Nope.” He shook his head and it was that simple.

“Thank you for loving me,” I said.

“Don’t thank me. It feels like something I was born to do. It feels right. No matter how fucked up you are, no matter how fucked up I am…we’ll never be over.”

“I have some pretty loud demons though, Chase,” I warned him.

“My love is louder.”

His love was louder than my demons.

It summed us up perfectly.

He was perfect for me. Abel was perfect too but we couldn’t be perfect in the way we wanted to be. Now, I had to wait for him to be as happy as I was. I swore the minute he was…I’d let him go. Until then, my heart was split.
