Chapter Six

I love that she’s on guard and questioning me. It shows how independent she truly is. I forgot how sexy that can be. Most of the women I meet are club whores, just looking to fuck and get a free pass into the club so they can find more dick. It’s a filthy cycle… which is why I never allow any of them to be anything more than a piece of ass.
Harley isn’t like those girls and it’s been obvious since the first day I started watching her. But something I haven’t seen before is that fuckin’ smile. She has me staring at her longer than I want to be. The sun is just coming up and I can see her features perfectly.
I should keep everything with her simple, which will make it all easier when I deliver her to her father. She’s going to hate me when she realizes what I’m doing… but money talks. And right now, it’s saying I can take a few years off if I play my cards right. There’s not any pussy worth messing up a deal like that.
“I’ll be back in just a minute. Wait here… and quit looking at me like that.” Her soft voice pulls me back to reality while her sexy ass walking away from me sends my thoughts all over the place. She gets about halfway to the door of the gym before I open the truck door to follow her.
“Not on your life. Consider me your body guard until we’re in the clear.” She walks even faster when she hears my voice. I already know she’s going to pull some bullshit… maybe she’ll use me as a diversion, who knows. But I’ll be ready for whatever she decides to try.
I hit the front door and watch her turn the corner just before the guy at the front desk spots me. He’s asking me to check in before I even have the chance to get to the desk… she definitely did this to slow me down, but I’m not going to let it get to me. Everything she owns is in that truck. She may try to run from me sometime today, but this isn’t the time.
“Looks like I left my card at home. I’ll just have to come back some other time.” I go back to the truck and lean against it until she comes back outside.
“Look at you… I like when you do what I tell you.” The sound of the truck unlocking has me opening the door and climbing in before she has the chance to get a crazy idea to leave. If I stay with this truck, she’ll have no choice but to drag me along.
“Don’t get used to it. I’m the one that makes the rules.”
“Is that what you think?” She glances at me before she throws a gym bag into the backseat then starts the truck once again.
“It’s what I know and it’ll save us time if you realize it’s better that way.”
“You’re out of your mind. You think it’s your way or the highway… well, how’s that working for you?”
“Amazing. Thanks for asking.” She takes off quickly, leaving the gym behind us along with even more distance away from Puck and his goons.
“Let me guess… that’s why you’re in love… married to the love of your life. And the two of you have so many friends you don’t know what to do with them.” She’s a smart ass… goddamn, I fuckin’ love her wit.
“Sure is. Now tell me if you got what you were after back there?”
“I did.”
“So what’s the deal with this key?” I hold out the key I found in her apartment, trying to study it and figure out what it means.
She hands me a key ring. “Does it match up with any of these?” I compare it to the seven keys, all of them being different than the one I’m holding.
“No.”
“I have no idea then. Maybe the memory stick will have a clue, but I’m not stopping until later tonight. The more miles we can get in today, the better. I don’t think I’ll be able to rest until I get to my next few stops.”
“Do you have a computer in those bags back there?”
“No. I wanted my escape to be free of any technology I own that could let them find me. We both know technology gets you into trouble. I also plan to ditch my phone soon.” She’s obviously thought this through.
“We’ll have to stop at a library or something to see what’s on it.”
“I’ll buy a laptop tonight. Until then, I don’t care what’s on it. I know it’s not mine and whoever put it there just wanted to ruin me or play games.”
“Why would they leave you a wad of cash then?”
“To make whatever it is they’re trying to pin on me more believable.” She shrugs. Her theory fits the situation and until I see what’s on it I’ll hold back any of my own thoughts.
“So what did you pick up from the gym?”
“Some of my stuff. I have a few more stops to make to get the rest of it.” She’s being vague, but I let her get away with it. I really don’t care that’s she’s been putting her shit in gym lockers knowing one day she’d be on the run and need to stop to pick it up. It could be money… it could be clothes or weapons for all I know.
“Do you want me to drive for a while?” She turns her head quickly, instantly nodding no.
“No. I want to make it very clear that I don’t need you to get out of there. You’re simply catching a ride. It’s better this way because I don’t want you thinking I owe you.”
“You already do.”
“That again?”
“I distracted Puck and his men twice for you. You’re welcome.” I prop my feet back up on the dash and put my arms behind my head before I look over at her. “You can pay me in sexual favors if you want, like I told you.” I nod quickly toward my crotch making her eyes glide over the zipper of my jeans before her eyes dart back up to mine.
“In your fucking dreams.”
“Hmmm. Maybe. Those tits and that ass of yours do have my attention. Why did you change out of that skirt?” I raise my eyebrows as I let my eyes take in her body again. This time making sure she’s watching me… watch her.
“Jesus. You really are a pig. Does this really work on other women?” She turns up the music before I have the chance to respond. I don’t think she wants to give me an opportunity to answer… and that makes me like her sassy ass even more. She’s a fucking feisty fire ball and I love it.
“You have no idea.” I say it under my breath, knowing she can’t hear me. I catch her looking at me out of the corner of her eye before she returns her focus to the road, verifying this is all a done deal. “It’s working on you Sweet Cheeks.”
Maybe I’ll deliver her a few days later than I’m scheduled. I could use a little one on one time with a woman before I have to disappear. Plus, she just happens to be headed in the right direction, which will only save me when it’s go time.
