Chapter Fourteen

Fuck… she feels insane on my cock. I haven’t been bare in a woman for years and this isn’t going to help keep me from wanting to feel this again real soon. As if her heat isn’t an instant fire on my dick, watching her come undone is the burst of energy I need to go into a fuck frenzy and claim her once again.
It isn’t supposed to be like this. I’m not supposed to fall for her and want to keep her safe from everyone including the person promising to give me the way out of this nightmare I live in. She’s not supposed to be my problem… yet she’s everything I think about.
I thrust hard, rotating my hips and driving her even further up the wall. Her lips part with my intrusion and I take this opportunity to kiss her once again. My body is attracted to her. It’s ridiculous how much she turns me on and that’s acceptable for me to understand. What I’m not able to comprehend is what she does to me beyond that. I’m a cold mother-fucker that isn’t supposed to care about anyone or anything except getting the money I need to escape.
Falling for her isn’t an option… because it means I can’t retire from this fucked up life. Fuck her and deliver her. It’s what you have to do. It’s how you’re wired. It’s the life you live and the only way to make it out of this situation alive.
I drive into her a few more times, taking us both over the edge while she claws the fuck out of my back… no doubt leaving marks that I’ll feel for days. Our breathing is both exaggerated and in harmony as we come down from our sex-driven high.
She slides her hands over my shoulders and then glides her soft touch down my arms, pulling my attention to her gorgeous hazel eyes. Tears begin to leave a wet trail down her face before I have a chance to say anything. I fight for something calming to say… but the truth is I’m just as terrified about the outcome of this situation as she is.
I palm both sides of her face and lean my forehead on hers and without saying a word I just breathe with her. Our eyes are locked until she closes hers and that’s when I decide to kiss her again. She may pretend to be tough and independent… but the truth is she’s vulnerable and she needs me.
The purpose of this assignment has just changed and I don’t give a fuck what it costs me in the end… as long as I can keep her safe, nothing else matters.
“We should probably get moving,” I whisper against her lips as I use my thumbs to dry her cheeks. She lowers her head in a nod before I kiss her once again. We both get dressed and get back in the truck without saying another word.
Something has shifted with us and I’m not sure it’s going to help matters as we run for our lives, but maybe it was inevitable. I’ve had plenty of jobs where I’ve had to move a female or handle a situation with the club that involved a woman. I’ve never felt like this during the job and never once would’ve turned away the chance at any amount of money for any one of them. And now I’m sitting here… driving as fast as I can in the opposite direction of the drop off location with her.
“Where’s your safe house?”
“Missouri.”
“No fucking way. We’ll go to Hawaii or Alaska. Those fuckers will never find you.”
“Slater… There’s no we. I have to do this without you.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind? Why can’t I go with you? I’ve already fucked up my position in both clubs by helping you this much.”
“They will kill you the second they find us.”
“Most of them will kill you the second they find you. I’m not walking away from this until I know you’re safe and I don’t see that happening any time soon… so we may as well come up with a fucking location we can call a home for a while. If you have one already set up… that may help us get situated before the fuckers find us again.”
“Let’s get a laptop and see what’s on this before we make any plans. I think we have a lot to talk about before we do anything.” I hit the gas a little harder and speed my way down the road as I listen to her logic. She’s scared to let me in… I get it.
“I’m not going to let anyone hurt you. In fact… you can go to your safe house and I’ll go back and take every single one of those fuckers out and you won’t have anything to worry about. I just can’t do it when I’m on the run with you.”
“This isn’t your fight.” Her words sting me, even though they shouldn’t surprise me. I’m not sure what else I’m going to have to do or say to make her understand I’m in this with her. I slam on the breaks and pull the truck over once again.
“Yes, it is. Fuck… what do I have to do or say to make you understand?”
“You can’t say anything to make me okay with you being in danger because you’re helping me.”
“Well… too fucking bad. Because I’m already there. I’m in fucking danger with you. We can either work together or you can keep working against me and we’ll just stop this truck every fucking mile and I’ll fuck some sense into you.”
“You can’t fix everything with your dick… it’s good, but not good enough to make me forget people want to kill us.”
“I don’t want you to forget people are after us. I want you to be so fucking careful there’s no way they can find us. I want you to look behind you every fucking step of the way… because these assholes don’t play.”
“I know that. Can you please just keep driving so we can move the hell on. I get it… my life is in danger and we need to work together.” She says the last bit with more frustration in her tone than I’ve heard from her in the past. I get that she’s tired of being on the run and I’m sure she’s done this most of her life and that kills me.
I move the truck down the road as my mind spins faster than the tires. I start thinking of any scenarios where she can have her freedom and it’s going to take a fucking miracle for that to happen. I need to send her to the safe house and then go back and handle all of this without her.
There’s no other way for this to work out. I pull into the parking lot of an electronics store before I turn to look at her. “I’ll be right back. I’m just going to get a cheap laptop.”
“I’ll come with you.”
Neither of us say anything as we walk in and pick up one of the main stream laptops with ease. The clerk makes an easy sale as I throw in four burner phones on top of it before we leave the store.
We’re only a few miles out of town when she has the flash drive playing. Most of it is dark and as I’m driving, I have a hard time making out who the people are, but it’s obvious she’s sitting on some sort of evidence or blackmail material as we watch cash change hands multiple times.
“Who would’ve planted this in my room?”
“I have no idea. When we stop, I’ll play it again and see if I recognize any of them.” We keep driving until we come upon a hotel. This time she doesn’t shy away from me helping her with the bags and I find myself smiling at that small step of progress with her stubborn ass.
