Say Yes, Senator: A Best Friend's Little Sister Political Romance by Nicole Elliot, Sophie Madison (6)

Camilla

Two days had passed since that hotel room, and I was still stuck on Merritt. Who would have thought he was that good? The steamy moments we’d had were on repeat in my mind, and I even dreamed about him last night, waking up all wet and so turned on that I had to touch myself and get the release I needed.

We got out of the hotel room only later that night, and he promised he would call me when he found me a job.

I was in the middle of yet another reverie, at my internship, when Sierra called me.

“Hey, girl!”

“Hi! Wait a sec.”

I stood up from my desk and scurried to the nearest empty hallway. There wasn’t much work for me to do today, so I had spent the last hour filing my nails and zoning out as I waited for the time to pass. Being an intern at this firm sucked, and I felt like I was wasting my time here.

I stopped in a far-away corner. “I’m at work, and I can’t talk in my office.”

“Gotcha. How’s it going?”

I sighed, a frown tugging at my lips. “It’s tedious. I have no idea what I’m doing here, Sierra. But this is the best I can do at the moment.” That would change pretty soon.

“So, are you going to tell me?” I could hear the smile in her voice.

“What do you mean?”

“About you and Merritt! I heard you looked pretty close in the restaurant two days ago.”

I let out a small gasp. “How do you know about that?”

“I already told you that my cousin, Becky, is an intern in your firm. She was attending that lunch too.”

I almost groaned. Just great.

For some reason, I wanted to keep Merritt and my “meeting” in the hotel room private. I didn’t want to go into details of what was going on between Merritt and me.

“Did you screw him?” she asked before I could say anything.

“Sierra!”

“Oh come on! You told me he approached you in the bar that night, and now he was talking to you during lunch? This has to mean something. And don’t you know him? Like isn’t he from your hometown?”

“Kind of, I mean he and Carter were tight. I guess maybe they still are.”

“Wait so you actually know him? Is Carter going to flip?”

“You’re making a big thing out of it, and Carter doesn’t need to get involved.”

“So are you denying he likes you?”

I snorted, amused by her persistence. “He is Senator Merritt Dawson. A playboy. He likes all women.”

“But you don’t like him,” she stated.

“It’s not that I don’t like him but…”

“But?”

He was a disaster waiting to happen. We’d had a great time together, yes, but did I actually believe there could be something serious between us? If he wasn’t such a womanizer, I would think so, but then again…

“But I’m not interested in men at the moment. My top priority is finding a job.”

“There is nothing wrong about fooling around while working on your career. In fact, it will keep your stress at bay.”

“You would know.” Sierra had it easy. She liked men, and she disliked commitment. So she was perfectly fine with a ton of one-night stands.

“So you haven’t fucked him?”

My answer came a second late. “No.” I hoped she bought it.

She let out a sigh. “Prude.”

A chuckle escaped my lips. “Slut.”

“Do me a favor, will ya? Tell me if something happens, okay?”

“Nothing will happen.”

“Mhm. I bet that something will happen.”

“Yeah, right. Bye, Sierra. I gotta get back to work.”

She erupted into fits of laughter. “Don’t think you can escape me that easily! You’ll let the cat out of the bag sooner or later.”

“There’s no cat to begin with,” I joked and ended the call before she could get me to reveal what happened.

When I returned to the office, Gemma, one of the assistants, yelled to me with a phone in her hand. “You have a phone call,” she said, pointing at the phone. “Line one.”

“Thanks. Who is it?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “He just said he’s your friend.”

Okay. I sat down and pressed one on my phone’s keypad. “Hello?”

“Hello, Camilla,” a deep male voice said. My heart picked up its pace.

“Merritt?”

“The one and only,” he said in a light tone.

I giggled, unable to stop myself. I was surprised and pleased that he called me. Did this mean that he had found me a job already? “Hi.”

“I forgot to get your phone number, so I talked with some acquaintances and got the number of your office.”

“I can’t say you aren’t well connected, Senator.”

“How have you been? Did you miss me?” I knew he was just teasing me, but that didn’t prevent me from blushing. I noticed the curious look Gemma gave me, and I turned my back on her.

“To answer your first question, I’m good,” I lowered my voice, inching away from Gemma. “And about your second question… I could ask you the same.”

“Dodging a question with a question? Clever. And yes. I missed you. Especially the way you screamed my name again and again and begged me to let you come.”

Holy moly. I shifted on my feet, turned on.

“You know we can’t talk about that now,” I whispered into the phone. Not that I didn’t want to. A dirty talk with him over the phone sounded tempting. Too bad this wasn’t the time or the place.

“Right. Then let’s talk about your job. I’ve made good on my promise.” A radiant smile spread across my face. “You’ll be working for an older congressman. Someone who’s been in the trenches, it’s good resume building opportunity. Not like working in my office, but we can’t have people getting suspicious.”

I wished I could jump and squeal in excitement. Yes!

“Thank you! Thank you so much!”

He chuckled in response to the bubbly excitement in my voice. “I have to tell you it’s nothing special because you’ll be running around and making coffee, but it’s a start.”

“It doesn’t matter.” It was a start definitely, even if I had to do menial tasks for the congressman—no more no less. This was the chance I needed. I would work hard and climb up the ladder eventually. “Thanks a lot.”

“You’re starting tomorrow.” He explained to me how to reach the right congressional office building. “Be there early, around 8am, to get acquainted with your colleagues and work space.”

“Alright. Thanks again Merritt, really.” For a moment there, I wasn’t sure what to tell him, since this was probably the last time I would hear from him. There was no reason for us to talk anymore after this, and a part of me didn’t like it.

“I make good on my promises Camilla.” Tingles danced across my skin at how sure he sounded. I wanted to see him, but that might not be possible.

However, he proved me wrong when he said, “I’ll see you soon.”

I wanted to ask him what he meant by that, but he already ended the call. See you soon?

I broke out into a smile. Now this should be interesting.

The next day, I showed up to work excited and nervous, and my step had a bounce to it. I was finally able to make my dreams come true.

My mom was over the moon when I told her the news. She kept repeating how proud she was of me, certain that I would make something out of myself soon. Of course, I didn’t divulge how I’d gotten the job.

The staff were so nice to me, and my new boss was a guy who looked and acted like everyone’s favorite grandpa. I knew from the start I was going to like it here.

The place was brimming with activity, and I found myself getting more excited as the day passed by. I was told to make and deliver coffee, distribute documents, and reorganize some papers in the archives. I had met a few important people, admiring how professional and knowledgeable they all appeared. This was all I ever wanted. I wanted to be in the middle of the political scene and make a change. I wanted to help make things happen.

I was going through the hall, on my lunch break, when I bumped into Merritt.

I did a double take, astounded to see him here. “Merritt?” I couldn’t resist checking him out, noticing how hot he looked in his black designer suit. In fact, he looked better than any other man I’d met so far in the office. “What are you doing here?”

“Not ‘Nice to see you’ or ‘I missed you’, but ‘What are you doing here’?” He placed his hand across his heart, feigning hurt. “Ouch. That’s a blow to my ego.” He smirked at me. “I work here.”

Well, of course. “I didn’t know that you were in this building too. It’s good to know that.”

He took a step closer to me, observing me intently. “Is it? Good, I mean?”

The temperature in the hall had risen by a few degrees. My heart reacted almost immediately, throb after throb of desire for him. A few people passed us by, greeting Merritt, but they didn’t seem to notice the tension between us.

“Absolutely.”

He took another step toward me, and now he was standing too close for it not to be suspicious. Thankfully, there was no one in the hall, but that fact didn’t calm down my erratic heart beat in the slightest.

“I wanted to see you, Camilla,” he said quietly, trapping me with his fiery gaze. “I couldn’t quite concentrate on my work today knowing you were near me.” My pulse quickened even more. “I couldn’t wait to see you.”

I licked my lips, something pulling me to play a dangerous game. “And now that you’ve seen me…” I looked at him under my eyelashes. “What are you going to do?”

It took him only seconds to scan our surroundings and pull me into a coat closet that was ten feet away from us. He flipped on the light switch and closed the door behind him, his face taut with lust.

“The question is—What am I not going to do?”

He grabbed my face with both hands and kissed me, pressing his erection against my mound. I moaned into his mouth and covered his hands with mine, arching my back to get closer to him. He tasted of mint and something that was his, and the taste was equally exquisite as the scent of his cologne.

His hand traveled down my front and underneath my skirt, rewarding me with a faint brush of his fingers against my undies.

“Mmm, already wet? Nice,” he muttered into my lips and continued kissing me, sliding his hand underneath my panties. He found my clit right away and started rubbing it in circles, messing with my mind.

“Yes… Ah so good…” He leaned away to look at me, panting.

“You’re so beautiful. I have no idea what you’ve done to me, but I can’t stop thinking about you. That day in the hotel room wasn’t enough. It wasn’t nearly enough.”

Leaving those words to hang in the air, he dropped to his knees, pushed my panties aside, and buried his face into my pussy. And just like that, the world narrowed to the sensations he was creating in me, filled with pure bliss and nothing else.
