The Gift by Jennifer Myles (27)

It wasn’t easy to keep focused while driving a brakeless car through the crowded Aurora Ave N. I was aware I could lose control and get hit at any moment, or hit someone else. Still, I refused to panic. I needed to be strong for myself and for Inaya, who was shaking beside me. For her, I wouldn’t allow anything bad to happen, even if it meant I had to take extreme action.

I wasn’t going to follow the guidance of that damn cop. He wasn’t worrying about us, but about the people we could hit, or he wouldn’t tell us to go back to 104. The curve was so tight that we wouldn’t make it without rolling over. I needed to figure out something. Maybe driving the car off the bridge posed the least risk.

From the corner of my eye, I noticed Inaya was getting paler by the moment. Her fear was growing and that made me worry.

“Don’t panic. Do you remember the movie ‘Runaway car’? That situation was similar and it ended up well.” I knew she liked movies and she probably had watched it.

Instead of calming her, my remark made her widen her eyes even more, panicking.

“Do you mean we can spend the whole night driving, just like them?”

Fuck! Ok, that wasn’t a good example. “No. I mean everything is going to end well.”

It was already night as we approached the bridge from where I intended to ditch the car. I saw Inaya holding her breath, freaking out.

“Don’t you dare ditch us, Jared.” She said.

When we entered the bridge, I saw it was a terrible idea. We were too high above the water and there was the iron railing. It would certainly destroy the car before it could leave the bridge and it would kill us. So, I continued straight ahead, seeing my wife breathe again as we crossed it.

I needed to think about a different solution. I wouldn’t risk our lives turning onto 104.

We kept on the avenue doing just over 60-mph. The two police cars in front of us helped clear the way so we didn’t hit anyone. A helicopter flew over us, following our route. I just didn’t know if it was the police or the media. If it was the second, our story would be on every news station the next day. We just needed a happy end for it.

Again, I saw Inaya answering the phone with shaking hands. She was paler than before. It was the chief again, checking to see if we were ok, how the gas tank was and, again, asked us to take 104. I’d never do that. I knew that roundabout too well. There was no chance for us to take that without rolling the car at the speed we were going. We needed another way out, and fast. We were already close to the roundabout.

The most plausible idea was for us to divert to Green Lake Park, a big greenbelt area I knew well. The calm lake was known for freezing during the winter and it was very close to the freeway, divided only by a flowerbed and big trees scattered in the grass. It presented a chance for us to escape from this situation alive. If there were no events taking place in the gardens, I could ditch the car there and the water would stop it. It was our best chance, maybe the only one. I didn’t even discuss this with Inaya, or she would make me abandon the plan, just as she had done with the bridge.

“Inaya, do you trust me?” I asked, trying to remain calm while she stared at me with wide-open, panicked eyes.

“What are you going to do?”

“Save our lives. Just hold on and trust me.”

In the instant I closed my mouth, we saw the calm waters and the gardens were almost empty.  It was our best chance. I just needed to dodge the trees and the people.

“No, Jared!” Inaya almost screamed, understanding what I was about to do. “Don’t do this, you’ll kill us.”

“No. I will save us.”

I went a few meters further and found the most open area of the gardens. It would have to be there. I couldn’t go on and risk not finding another, less crowded space.

“Hold on, Inaya.” I said while she started screaming frantically. I ran over the flowerbeds, using all my skill to dodge the trees and the few people on the grass, most of whom started running when they saw the car.

Once we made it through the flowerbed, came the most dangerous part: impacting the water. It was as hard as I imagined and it jarred the car violently. Luckily, we weren’t thrown from the vehicle because we were wearing our seatbelts. Although it was difficult, the car finally stopped, but it was farther from the water’s edge than I thought it would be. If we didn’t get out fast, we would submerge with the car.

I looked at Inaya, and she was in shock, she couldn’t escape on her own. I undid her seatbelt, opened the door and worked to get her out. We finally made it, but now we needed to swim.

“Your idiot! You almost killed us!” She raged and started beating me while I held her to keep her from drowning.

“We can fight later, Inaya. I need you to swim.”

The tone in my voice let her know we were still in danger, so she started swimming to the bank while I followed to make sure she arrived safely.

The water was freezing. We reached the bank and got out. The police officers were running toward us.

“Mr. Harrington. Have you got any idea to the danger you put yourselves in?” One of them asked.

“I solved it. Didn’t I?” I answered while he kept talking, but I didn’t care.

I looked at my wife, who was shaking and gritting her teeth from the cold, and I held her close to warm her up. I looked at the car and saw it completely submerge under the water.

In minutes, the police placed a yellow and black plastic strip were across the flowerbed, cordoning off the area between us and the multitude of people who were gathering in a crowd. There were some curious reporters, shooting their camera flashes at us. Inside the cordoned off area, were the EMTs who came in an ambulance. They brought us warm blankets. There were also several uniformed police officers, including the chief Inaya had talked to on the phone.

“Mr. Harrington. Have you got any idea what might have caused the car to lose its brakes?” The chief asked. He was a big man around forty.

“No. when I got to work in the morning they were working fine,” I answered, still embracing Inaya. Even though she was wrapped in the blanket, her teeth were still chattering.

The officer took note of my answer in a little notebook. “Have you taken the car to a mechanic or had it fixed lately?”

“No. I was on a fifteen-day trip. The car hasn’t been used recently.”

“Mr. Harrington. Do you have enemies?”

“Of course not,” I answered impulsively and Inaya looked at me, startled. I remembered her ex-fiancé then. It wasn’t an improbable hypothesis that he could hire someone to cut the car brakes. “Well. Actually, my wife had a fiancé in Morocco who was very unhappy for her marrying me, but he left days ago while we were still here.”

“I see.” The man said while taking notes. “We’ll investigate that and check the car to see if this was an accident or if the lines were cut on purpose. When we have the results, we’ll let you know. Now, I recommend you take the ambulance to the hospital and get checked out.”

“No hospital. We’re ok. We just want to go home.” I said.

“Maybe we could go to the hospital to check if you are ok.” Inaya said, referring to that damn subject of my heart. I just wanted to avoid it.

I knew I promised her I’d have the surgery, and I wasn’t lying, but I’d delay it as long as I could. I’d rather die without knowing the place and time.

“No way. I just want to go home,” I refused.

“I’ll ask one of my men to give you a ride,” the chief said and we accepted.

It was still raining, and the temperature had gone down on that Friday night while we rode in the back of the police car. We went back to the center of Seattle. Inaya laid her head on my chest and I kept her as warm as I could in my arms.

“Do you think my ex-fiancé has anything to do with that?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe it was just an accident. The car hadn’t been used in a long time and I haven’t taken it to a mechanic in months.”

I said it, but I didn’t believe it. The car was new, one of the best, latest generation models. It wouldn’t present such a serious problem. It was easier to believe her ex-fiancé asked someone to cut it. In that case, we needed extra security, because he might try it again.

“I hope it was just an accident,” she said, ending the conversation.

The officer left us in front of our building. We entered the hall, and were surprised to find Jeffrey and Erica sitting on the couches, waiting for us. They seemed worried and came to us as soon as we walked in.

“God, Jared! We were worried sick about you!” she said in a crying voice while holding me, putting her head on my chest. “How are you? Are you ok?”

“We’re ok,” I answered, looking at Jeffrey, who seemed awkward as he stood behind her.

When Erica stepped back, my brother approached me. He looked stiff and very serious.

“I was worried, man,” he said a little clumsily.

“We are fine.” I was touched by his approach. I put my hand on his shoulder, aware it was too soon for a hug.

Jeffrey might have been worried about what happened, but I still knew he was hurt because I married Inaya. Only time would heal it.

“How did you find out about it?” Inaya asked, her teeth still chattering.

“The TV. It’s all over the news.” Erica answered, looking at my wife with disdain.

“Do you know what happened to the brakes?” Jeffrey asked.

“No. The police will investigate to determine whether it was an accident or the brake lines were deliberately cut,” I said.

“Who’d cut your car brakes?” Erica seemed terrified.

“Inaya’s ex-fiancé is our main suspect. That is, if the investigation confirms foul play. Let’s forget it, everything is ok and that’s what matters. Do you want to go upstairs and have a glass of wine?” I asked.

“We don’t want to be a bother. We just came to make sure you are ok.” Erica looked back and forth between Inaya and me several times. Although she tried to fake it, I could see the rage in her look.

“We’ll see each other tomorrow at work. Take care, man.” Jeffrey said his goodbyes and both left the building.

I held my wife around her waist and took her to the elevator. The concierge was more solicitous than usual when greeting us. He obviously saw the news as well.

“See? Some bad things happen for a reason.” I said. “We almost died, but Jeffrey is talking to me again.

“It’s true.” Inaya’s forehead wrinkled, and her expression was very serious. It wasn’t usual.

“Don’t worry about anything. Don’t think about it anymore. The important thing is that we survived and we’ll be ok.” I held her closer. “Nothing bad will happen to you, I promise I’ll protect you with my life.”

I felt her body shaking against mine as she embraced me back.

However, her fragility only lasted on the elevator. As soon as we entered the apartment, she let the blanket drop to her feet and punched my shoulder.

“That’s for throwing me in the lake,” she fumed, before coming closer, rubbing her body on mine. “And that’s for not letting me die.” She kissed my chin, moving up to my mouth. I kissed her back, hungrily, putting my tongue inside her fleshy lips. They were the sweetest lips I ever kissed, and I soon got horny and felt it in my veins, causing me to get an erection.

I wanted to be healthy and to hold her on my arms, to carry her upstairs to our room, to prepare a hot bath and get in the tub with her. “You need to warm up. Come with me, I’ll prepare a hot bath for us,” I said, kissing her lips.

I put my arm around her waist and led her upstairs to our suite. She didn’t hesitate or push me away from her delicious body. In the bathroom, I turned on the faucets for the hot tub, raising the temperature while I put the bath salts and gel in. I turned to face my wife again.

“Take off your wet clothes,” I commanded, and she didn’t refuse. She undressed slowly, and I couldn’t take my eyes from her body.

I loved to watch her undress, uncovering every part of her beautiful body for me... her fine waist, her big breasts, her large and rounded hips, her shaved pussy, her firm and beautiful thighs. Each part of that woman fascinated me and, every time I made her mine, I was certain that, if I had a full life ahead, I’d dedicate each day to her. For her, I’d give the surgery a chance. If it didn’t work, at least it was proof of my love for her.

When Inaya took off the last piece of her wet clothes, I was breathless. She was completely naked in front of me, shameless, while I devoured her with my eyes. I got undressed fast, took her in my arms and got into the warm water with her. When we were covered by white foam, our bodies were immediately relaxed by the water.

“Hm. That’s delicious.” Inaya whispered, closing her eyes. Her beautiful face lit up in pleasure as she rested her head on my chest. I felt her body against mine, with one of her legs carelessly thrown over mine. Just the sensation of her skin covered with foam, rubbing against mine, was more pleasurable than the water warming us after hours of cold.

“Really enchanting,” I whispered, breathless.

I kissed her forehead and slowly moved down, kissing her face until I found her luscious lips. I took control of her, sucking her lips. The animal inside me wanted her. I put my tongue between her lips and felt her breathless on my mouth. I ran one of my hands down her soft skin, exploring her beautiful curves, massaging one of her breasts while feeling the hard nipple between my fingers.

Inaya gasped, turned on, and grabbed my dick in the middle, masturbating it while still kissing my lips. She opened her legs and rubbed her shaved pussy on my thigh, driving me crazy. I could no longer think straight and I just let my instincts guide me. I raised myself and sat on the border of the tub grabbing my wife’s long, black hair to pull her between my legs, bringing her sensuous lips to my hard dick.

“Suck it,” I commanded.

Without leaving the water, Inaya opened her mouth, licking my dick and the liquid, escaped from its tip. She finally opened her lips and put it all in her mouth, clear up to her throat, just like I’d taught her.

“Fuck! That’s amazing.” I mumbled, using my hand to move her head up and down, going harder inside her soft mouth.

I was close to filling her throat with my sperm, but I made her stop and pulled her up, kissing her lips, and sucking her tongue passionately. I changed places with her, putting her on the tub’s rim and sliding into the water.

I made her open her legs, putting her feet another edge of the tub. She needed to support her weight with her hands. She was completely open to me. I leaned back to better appreciate her, all exposed, her sex red awaiting my pleasure, her big breasts moving up and down with each breath she took, and the foam gliding down her dark skin. I could imagine nothing more magnificent than that.

I almost moaned when I leaned back close to her, putting my hands between her thighs, licking her clitoris and watching it swell as she moaned loudly, begging for more. I licked it again and again as her moans grew louder.

Her taste was the best. The more I tried it, the more I wanted to feel it. I put my tongue inside her wet, small vagina. I was too excited, moving my tongue in circles and going back to her soft and swelling clitoris. I moved my tongue faster as I put one finger inside her, sliding it in and out. Inaya came abundantly to me, moaning loud and calling my name as her beautiful face contorted in exquisite pleasure.

I drank all her pleasure before pulling her into the water again, ravenous for her. My mouth was addicted to hers. My body depended on hers. Without pausing our kissing, I laid back in the tub and placed her on me.

Since we got married, we no longer used condoms and Inaya didn’t take the pill. We had decided we wanted to have a son. It was the only way to guarantee I’d leave a part of me with her if I died.

Inaya moved on top of me, rubbing her pussy on my hard dick, pressing my body against her, and finally letting it into the entrance of her vagina.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to put on a condom?” I always had to ask if it wasn’t a problem for her to have a son without a father.

“I am. I want your baby. I want you to fill me up with your semen.”

She didn’t need to say anything else. She went down with her hips on my dick, letting me penetrate entirely inside her. She was tight and soft, squeezing my dick. It was so good a moan escaped my lips.

Although she was a beginner in sex, Inaya knew how to drive me crazy and she did it exceedingly well. She twerked her hips, moving fast on me while her big breasts rubbed against my chest. She almost made me lose control, coming close to climax, but I wanted to be inside her longer, so I changed positions, and thrust in and out on top of her. I went deep inside her, while her nails scratched my back. She kissed me with the same passion that churned inside me.
