The Protector (Men of the North Book 1) by Elin Peer (33)

CHAPTER 33

Murder

Christina

I woke up to the sound of commotion outside my bedroom door and stretched my arms.

“Did you enjoy your nap?” Victor asked and snaked his arm around me to pull me close. I was just about to tell him to stop when the door was flung open and Boulder came through, his eyes taking in me and Victor closely entangled in the bed.

“Boulder,” I shrieked in surprise. My instant happiness was quickly replaced by panic when he zoomed in on Victor with pure murder in his eyes.

“Get the fuck away from my wife,” he sneered and took a step closer.

Victor removed his hands from me and scrambled out of bed, revealing that he was stark naked and sporting an erection.

I quickly got out of bed too and threw myself between Boulder and Victor, pressing my naked chest against Boulder.

“Don’t touch him,” I begged again and again.

Boulder looked down and saw my naked chest, hurt flickered in his eyes, and a hoarse sound of pain came from his throat.

“Easy,” Magni said behind Boulder and placed a strong hand on his upper arm. “We didn’t come to fight.”

“Fight?” Boulder barked. “I’ll fucking kill the bastard for touching my wife.”

“Boulder, relax,” I pleaded. “Calm down.” My hands went to his face and I pulled at him to make him look at me. “It’s nothing. Nothing!”

Kya pushed into my small, now overcrowded bedroom with questions of her own. “What does he mean by wife?”

Boulder didn’t even register her; he was solely focused on me and Victor, who stood passively in the corner.

“Who is he?” Boulder growled.

“My name is Victor, and if you do not cease acting hostile, I will report you instantly.”

“You can try, you motherfucker,” Boulder sneered and pushed forward to get to Victor.

“Out, out,” I shouted and pushed Boulder back with the help of Magni.

“If we were home I’d let you kill him, but we’re not so you need to calm the fuck down,” Magni hissed at Boulder and got around him to block the entrance to my room.

I stood in nothing but my panties in the small entryway with a massive Boulder, fuming with anger.

“Don’t talk, just take a minute to calm down,” I said in a placatory voice and held out my hands in a sign of peace.

“I’m sorry, but the overnight deal does not apply to more than one person,” Victor said loud and clear, and I stretched to see Kya in my room, signaling for her to shut him up. “I cannot partake in sexual orgies,” Victor added matter-of-factly.

Magni swung his head around to stare at Victor. “What did you say?”

“I’m merely saying that I’m fully capable of taking male penetration, but you’ll have to make a reservation. Would you like me to add you to the waiting list?”

“I don’t fucking think so,” Magni sneered.

“Would you like to think about it?”

“No.” Kya stepped in front of Victor with a worried expression on her face. “Victor, have you alerted the authorities?”

“Strong language is to be expected during intercourse – especially when a person enjoys an orgasm. Were you enjoying an orgasm?” His question was directed at Magni, who walked closer to them.

“Geez,” Magni muttered low and called out to Boulder over his shoulder. “Fucking hell, he’s nothing but a sex-bot.”

Kya acted quickly. “Yes, he’s enjoying orgasms, a lot of them. You can relax, Victor.”

“I’m confused. I’m here to satisfy Christina Sanders tonight. How come you experienced an orgasm too?”

Kya held up a hand, signaling to Magni to be quiet. “It’s not you, Victor. This man was with me and we were having a good time together.”

“But he just arrived.” Victor leaned his head to the side. “How did you manage to get him to orgasm without touching him?”

Kya moved over to snuggle up against Magni, “I’m just talented that way and as you can see, we’re just mad about each other, so there’s no need to report any of this.” Magni stiffened when she rose to her toes, planting kisses along his jaw.

“Thank you for the explanation – I’m happy for you both. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll find Christina Sanders and satisfy her.” Victor moved past Kya and Magni and went straight to my side, completely ignoring Boulder.

“Hello, beautiful,” he said with a charming smile. “Would you like me to give you a backrub or some oral pleasure?”

I frowned and ignored Boulder, whose face was lobster red.

“Ehm… sure, Victor,” I cleared my throat. “Why don’t you go into the living room and wait for me there?”

Victor reached for my free hand and planted a kiss on the back of it. “I would love that, gorgeous,” he said seductively.

A low growl sounded from Boulder, who stood close to me, and I increased my pressure on his hand, holding him back.

“Would you close the door, please?” I called to Victor when he entered my living room.

“Yes, darling,” he responded and actually winked at me.

“It might be a while. I need to shower and talk with my friends a little,” I told him with a sugar-sweet smile.

“I’m ready when you are,” he said and finally closed the door.

Pushing Boulder back into my bedroom, I closed the door behind me and confronted them all.

“I can’t believe that you’re actually here.”

Magni was still standing with Kya snuggled up against him, but avoided looking at me, and when Boulder tore the blanket from the bed and covered me up, I understood why.

“Are you pregnant?” Boulder said, turning me around to face him.

“What?” I blinked in confusion. “No, how would I be pregnant?”

“Have you had your bleedings?”

Overwhelmed with his questions and the situation, I was speechless.

“No, I’m not pregnant,” I said astonished that he would ask such a ludicrous question.

His shoulders fell. “Christina, I…” He trailed off and took a deep breath. “Fuck. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, I didn’t expect to find you with…” He waved at the bed. “You know.”

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled. “But I didn’t think I was ever going to see you again and he…”

Boulder silenced me with his hand covering my mouth. “I don’t want to know what you did with him. Just tell me that you’ll come back with me.”

My face softened and I pulled his hand down to smile at him. “You want me to come back with you?”

“Yes!” he said; his anger from before was fading and being replaced with hope. “Will you?”

“I tried to go back,” I said.

“You did?”

“Uh-huh, but they wouldn’t let me.”

“So you’ll come.” His voice almost broke.

“Yes,” I breathed and got lost in his burning eyes, “But how, Boulder?”

“Don’t worry about that. Just come with me. Magni and I know how to get back.”

I nodded, out of words, and Boulder pressed a relieved kiss to my lips.

Kya cleared her throat. “I’m sorry, but Victor has probably already reported you two for improper communication and violent threats.”

“Shit,” Magni cursed.

“I can’t believe that you two are real Nmen,” she said and showed no signs of being afraid of them. In fact, she looked intrigued.

“We’re real Nmen alright,” Magni confirmed and looked down at her, placing his hands on her shoulders and pushing her gently away from him. “Real married Nmen.”

“Ohh.” She blinked up at him. “Wait – you thought I was coming on to you?”

His perfectly arched brow confirmed that thought.

“That’s ridiculous,” she chuckled. “I would never.”

“Good, because men of the Northlands don’t sleep around.” Magni’s eyes pinned me with his last words and I cringed.

“I’m just floored that people still marry in the Northlands. That’s so strange.”

“Of course we marry.” Magni lowered his brows. “Would you like to get married? We could have a tournament and you could choose your own husband.”

“That…” Kya swung her eyes to me silently asking a thousand questions. “Sounds very tempting, but I’m a teacher and we don’t really do that sort of thing.”

What an odd thing to say. No one did that sort of thing in the Motherlands, but I didn’t blame her for coming up with a polite excuse on the spot – weak or not.

Magni blew out a breath. “What a shame. You’re a beautiful woman and so exotic with your looks. Men would have fought bravely to secure your hand in marriage.”

“Really?” Kya glanced at me and Boulder standing closely together. “This is crazy,” she whispered. “I can’t believe you married him and didn’t tell me.”

“How do you tell something like that?” I asked her softly.

“Christina, have you seen Laura?” Magni asked sharply.

“No, I’m sorry, but I haven’t seen her.”

Disappointment filled his blue eyes.

“Laura, wait, I’ve heard of her,” Kya said. “Who is she again?”

“My wife,” Magni said shortly while I reminded her.

“The woman I met who decided to come here… you know, martial arts.” My eyes bulged in my attempt to signal that it was a sensitive subject and now wasn’t a good time.

“We need to go,” Boulder said. “Get dressed and pack what you need. Our ride is waiting outside.”

The men stepped outside my bedroom and Kya helped me fill a bag while I quickly pulled on my favorite sweater and pants.

“I’ll miss you so much,” I told Kya and hugged her fiercely.

“Will this be the last time I see you?” she asked, her voice choked up with emotions.

“I don’t know,” I said honestly. “But if it is, I want you to know that I love you.”

“I love you too.” She sniffled, those adorable expressive doe eyes full of tears.

“Be careful,” she whispered when I opened the door. “And call me if you can.”

“I will, sister,” I said giving her the highest compliment a woman could give another.

“Sister,” she whispered back, shoulders bobbing from suppressed sobbing.

Magni and Boulder had the grace not to say anything. They kept quiet as we ran down the stairs and didn’t introduce me to the two men waiting by the drone parked on the street. Instead Boulder followed me to the back seat and placed me in his lap, folding his arms protectively around me and kissing me on my hair.

I could have told him the drone wouldn’t take off with me in his lap. I needed to be in my own seat, safely buckled in.

One of the men turned and told Boulder that the system had detected an unsafe passenger and that I needed to be next to him instead of on top of him. Boulder told him in Northland style what he thought of that stupid rule.
