Train: A Bad Boy Sports Romance by Autumn Avery (9)

Trevor

Trevor

Stephanie was my tutor. Teacher. Professor. Whatever.

Damn, I knew we didn't talk much, but I never expected it to come back and bite me in the ass this hard.

Like, I knew why she had to act like she had a stick up her ass. I imagine it was difficult trying to command the respect of people who aren't much younger than you are.

I knew about the whole no-fraternization thing between faculty and students too.

Damn, though, if there was ever a woman who was worth breaking the rules for? It was Stephanie.

I kept on keeping on through the rest of my classes. Coach Boggs told me I was doing well enough naturally without anyone pretending I was smarter than I was. Just in case though? I did put in the extra effort. Paid a little more attention. I don't know, maybe I gained a sudden boost in respect for teaching in the past twenty-four hours.

Soon enough, I got back to my dorm. I dug through the pantry and found some dry rice, poured some into a bowl, and dumped my phone in there. Supposedly that was supposed to help dry it out.

You really don't know how much you miss your phone until you drop it, along with yourself, into a lake.

I dropped myself on my bed. Stephanie was still so strongly on my mind. Having her lips on mine? God, that got me hard as hell, and when she played hard to get, she gave me a terrible case of blue balls. I couldn't have her, but I couldn't think of not having her either.

Fuck, if only I knew. It wasn't like she screamed teacher when I looked at her.

To me? She screamed girl next door porn star or something. I don't know. She drove me crazy and it really wasn't remotely fair.

Every time I thought of her, I immediately thought back to her moaning for me. How tight she felt squeezing around my cock. The absolute bliss that was climaxing right alongside her, filling her again and again.

I felt like I was obsessed.

There was a ringing sound that caught my ear. It was muffled. I pulled myself up and looked over at the rice bowl. I guess it really did work, huh.

When I saw who it was, I was quick to accept the call.

"Mom, what's shaking?" I took my phone and returned to my bed, plopping myself prone. At least she would distract me from Stephanie, if only briefly.

"Trevor? Oh, you finally picked up. I've been trying to call you for a day now." She always sounded so happy to hear my voice. I know it's supposed to be the smiles of your child bringing you joy, but seeing my Mom smile brought me joy too. Fuck, I was such a Momma's boy.

"Um, yeah, sorry, I had an accident. I dropped my phone in a lake." She didn't need to know that it was intentional so I could get closer to a girl I really, really liked, and that I dropped myself into the lake right along with the phone.

"Oh that's terrible. Is your phone okay?"

"I'm talking to you on it now."

"Oh. Right. That's good." Something was bothering her. I would need to pry it from her, because she was definitely one of those mothers who didn't want you to worry about them.

I worried about her a lot. Way too much. "So, how's the health been?"

"Oh, you know. Um, fine."

"Mom, you're a terrible liar."

I heard her sigh. "They let me go from the diner."

"They fired you?"

"Yes. They don't think I can do the job anymore. I can't say I disagree. I can only stand for so long."

"They could have given you something to do, Mom. They can't just fire you. Don't they have laws against that?"

"I can't really afford a lawyer or anything."

Money. Our constant bane.

"I have unemployment, I'll be fine. Really. I can see if I can get on disability. Maybe I can still find a job."

"Mom..."

My mom? She's the most determined person I know. As she gets older, her body betrays her more and more. While apparently I was gifted with the body of Hercules, I got that from whoever my Dad was, and Mom? She just got weaker as she got older. She would eventually be in a wheelchair and there was really no stopping this inevitability.

I need to take care of her. She pushed herself so hard, for so long, now it’s my turn. I have a chance to succeed. To make sure she gets the best care she could possibly get. To never have to worry about money again.

"Just... take care of yourself, Mom. Keep yourself healthy. Keep yourself happy."

"Are you doing well? Are you eating right?"

"I'm fine, Mom. Really."

"You meet any nice girls?"

"Mom..." I didn't really tell her about being the Train, and all the people who wanted a ride on it. They weren't girls you brought home to your mother. They were fuck and forget, the right now, not the forever.

"Come on, Trevor. There should be plenty of nice girls there. A young strapping man like you shouldn't have any trouble finding one."

"Well, there is this one girl?"

"Oh? Is she pretty?"

"Um, yes. She's very pretty." I felt like this was the understatement of the fucking century.

"She nice to you? She going to take care of you?"

"Mom," I was shaking my head in embarrassment, before realizing she couldn't really see how red in the face she was making me over the phone. "Yeah. She's nice to me. Yeah, she wants to take care of me." Helping improve my grades counted as taking care of me, right?

"That sounds great, honey. When's the wedding?"

"Mom!"

I talked to her for as long as I could, the battery starting to wane. When she finally hung up, I gained some perspective on everything.

Failure wasn't an option.

I needed to impress all of the talent scouts. I needed to play in the New Year’s game.

To do that, I needed to get my grades up.

Stephanie was willing to help me. As much as not thinking about fucking her was incredibly hard for me, I knew that I needed to keep it in my pants.

It was going to be quite the test of willpower for me.
