Dirty Assets (Soul of the Sinner- Book 2) by Rumer Raines (24)

Adele

“Do you want me to fuck you, Adele?” Those are the last words Alex asks me before the only thing I can hear is my own heartbeat. How do I even answer him? Hell yes, I want you to fuck me. I have an ache for him that won’t go away. I laid against him on this couch for over an hour and I can feel how hard and big he is against my ass. He would pull away and I always managed to readjust myself so I could feel him. This can’t be a good situation I’m getting myself into. I just escaped my abusive husband and I go on the run to end up with the mob? How could I know that Alexis and Lola had connections?

You would think that Frank giving me a check for five thousand dollars would have been the first clue. Just who gives someone that kind of money? Now I am curled up with Alex who started off being the biggest jerk I had met, except for Garth. The only difference is, Garth didn’t start out as a jerk. He totally charmed me and I fell for him like a rock. Alex started off as the jerk and now he is totally charming me. He can be a little bossy sometimes, but for some reason, I feel safe with him. I don’t think anything can hurt me if he’s around.

“I’ll plead the fifth,” I tell him and his eyes darken as he narrows them on me. How could they not? He knows that I want him and I have my leg thrown over him. He pulls me closer to him and his dick is now pressing against me and I adjust myself so I can feel more of him. I place my hands on his face and love the feeling of the scruff that is on his jaw. I lift to kiss him and he pulls me closer and our lips finally meet again. As we deepen our kiss, I climb on top of him. He lifts his hips and holds me down so that he can grind himself against me.

“Tell me that you want me to fuck you, Adele,” he moans against my ear. I moan and continue to grind myself against him. It’s on the tip of my tongue to say it, but for some reason, I can’t. Once I give myself to this man I can’t take it back. I am married and on the run from my husband. Alex is the mob and I can’t give myself to him, no matter how much I ache to do so. Alex grabs my face and meets my eyes and I look down at him.

“Say it, Adele.” I tilt my head and open my mouth when there is a large crash and Alex shoots up pushing me off him. He runs over the window and runs outside. When I get to the window, I see that it’s broken by the large rock laying on the floor. I pick up the rock and there is a note taped to it. “SHE IS MINE!” I drop the rock and rush to the door looking for Alex. I close the door and rush to the phone thinking I should call the police. I just watched that damn Mafia movie and the common theme is that the police aren’t your friends, and I know that Alex is Mafia. I don’t know if I should call? Oh hell… I should call!

Before I hit the last number, Alex comes back into the house and I hang up the phone. I run over to him throwing my arms around him.

“Are you ok?” I ask.

“Yes. He got away. Who were you calling?”

“The police,” I tell him wondering if this is the thing to say to him.

“Adele... Please don’t ever call the police.” He shakes his head looking at me.

“It was Garth. He left a note on the rock,” I tell him and he walks back over to the window picking up the rock. He shakes his head and walks over to the phone.

He walks away from me while he is on the phone, but I manage to hear that he is talking to Oliver. He tells him that he wants people watching his house too. They need to be there tonight and everyone is to be looking for Garth. He wants him ‘eliminated’ and I swallow hard at hearing that part. I have never been around the mafia or heard any of their lingo, but I know what eliminated meant. It means to make someone or something disappear. He just told Oliver that he wants Garth killed. If something happens to Garth, Alex will be responsible. He can go to prison and since I just overheard him, I may go along with him. Garth hurt me and I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t mind if they broke a leg or even a few ribs and warned him against ever coming near me again. Killing him is another thing that I don’t know if I can live with.

Alex is holding the phone as he approaches me and I turn to face him.

“I don’t want him eliminated,” I tell him and his eyes widen as he places the phone on the table.

“Adele,” he says lowering his head.

“Alex! Do not have him killed!” I am seconds away from yelling at him.

Alex lifts his head and takes two steps toward me and I take three steps back.

“If you have him killed, I will never forgive you. I will go to the police,” I threaten and his eyes darken.

“Adele, NEVER threaten to go the police. EVER. As far as Garth, it’s as good as done,” he says and I can’t believe how cold his tone is.

I turn my back to him and grab my cell phone. I head to the bathroom and lock the door behind me. I need to get out and he isn’t going to let me leave willingly. I look through my contacts and pull up Frank’s information. I hit the call button and after two rings he answers.

“Hello?” Frank answers.

“It’s Adele. I need your help.” I ask as I start to cry.

Frank listens to me cry and complain for almost ten minutes. He doesn’t say much and I can tell I put him in a bad position. He tells me that he’ll send someone to pick me up and I apologize to him for bringing him into the mess that is my life. Before I hang up Alex starts knocking on the bathroom door. I tell Frank to send someone quickly and hang up on him.

“Adele, you can’t stay in there all night!” Alex yells and I decide to be a grown up and to leave the bathroom. I open the door and refuse to make eye contact with him as I brush past him. I walk into the bedroom and grab my back pack and go back into the living room and fall onto the couch. Alex follows me and sets in the chair next to the couch.

“What are you doing Adele?” he asks and I ignore him.

“Okay. I guess this is what they call the silent treatment? I am not used to any woman doing this to me, so I guess you’ll be the first,” he chuckles and I still ignore him.

We sit for twenty minutes and I continue with the silent treatment. Alex doesn’t budge and sits next to me staring at me as if that will get me to talk.

“Is this going to go on all night, Adele?” Alex sighs and I can now hear the anger in his voice.

“No. I won’t be here all night” I tell him.

“Where do you think you’re going exactly?” he practically spits out.

“Frank is sending someone for me.” I look over at him and give him a phony smile.

“You called Frank?” he asks as he sits up in the chair.

“Yes,” I tell him as I meet his angry eyes.
