I waited until Nick fell asleep and I snuck out of the condo. I know it was wrong and that I was putting myself in jeopardy. I had no other choice, I had to see Alex. It has been one month and I missed him and I needed to see him. It wasn’t a matter of me wanting to see him, I needed to see him. I needed to see him like I needed to breathe. I needed to see him like I need water and air. After I made sure Nick was asleep, I took his keys borrowing his Suburban.
When Alex opened his door, he was surprised to see me. He asked why I was back and I told him that I needed to see him. He reminded me of how I ran away the last time. I knew I had to lay my cards on the table. I ran from him because I was scared. I had run from one monster and I was afraid I was running to another one. I am back because Alex showed me that he was; the man I couldn’t walk away from. When Alex picked me up and carried me to bed, I realized it’s where I wanted to stay forever.
The next morning, I wake to find Alex’s leg and arm wrapped around me. I also find his dick pressed firmly against me. When I turn over to look at him, he doesn’t even budge. I grab his shirt off the floor and put it on as I head to the kitchen to make breakfast. I am making eggs and toast when I feel a set of arms wrapped around my waist and something hard pressed into my ass. I let out a soft moan as I lean back against him.
“Good morning,” Alex says as he places a warm kiss on my neck.
“Good morning.” I turn around and wrap my arms around his neck as our lips meet.
“Are you hungry? I ask pulling away from him.
“Not for food,” Alex retorts as he lifts me, setting me on the counter. “Hold on to the edge,” Alex tells me as he spreads my leg wide and leans down to lick my pussy. “I think breakfast is ruined,” Alex remarks and I watch him toss the black eggs and toast in the trash. Alex grabs more eggs and bread and I watch him as he flips the eggs. As he puts the bread into the toaster, my cell starts to ring. I close my eyes expecting an angry Nick to be on the other end. I can’t blame him, I snuck out and stole his car. I pick up the phone as Alex walks to the table staring at me.
“Hello,” I quietly answer.
“Where are you?” Nick asks and I can tell he is very annoyed with me.
“I am with Alex,” I tell him as Alex continues to watch me as he starts to eat his breakfast.
“I am glad you’re safe. Is there anything else you need to tell me?”
“I borrowed your car. I hope that is okay?” I tell him and Alex’s eyebrows nearly touch his hairline.
“I need my car back, Adele,” Nick sayss and I can tell he is still quite pissed.
“I’ll have it back in thirty minutes,” I tell him and hang up as Alex starts to chuckle.
“You took his car? You must have been pretty desperate to get to me,” Alex laughs as he takes another bite of his toast.
I narrow my eyes at him as I grab a piece of toast and head to the bedroom to get dressed. I should get Nick back his car and apologize for running out on him. He doesn’t deserve any of this. A few seconds later, Alex walks into the bedroom behind me and starts getting dressed too.
“What are you doing? I ask.
“I am going to follow you to the condo so I can bring you back. You didn’t think I was going to let you walk away, again did you?” Alex answers. I start to get butterflies in my stomach at the thought of him following me if only to give me a ride back to his place.
I lean over and pull Alex by the shirt to kiss him on the lips. He grabs my ass and pulls closer giving me a quick kiss. “We better get going or we’ll never leave,” he says and we make our way to the condo to drop off Nick’s somewhat stolen Suburban.
Alex and I hold hands as we walk to the door so I can apologize to Nick and return his car keys. He wasn’t happy with me when we spoke on the phone, so hopefully, he will forgive me when I apologize. I pull out the card key and push the door open. When I walk into the room, I accidentally kick a broken lamp by the door. Alex grabs my arm and pulls me back toward the door and takes a gun from his pants.
“Stay right here.”
I glance around the room and watch as Alex peeks into the bathroom, which is next to the door. He walks further into the room and he rushes to look out the window. Then I walk into the room and gasp as I see Nick’s body on the bed. There is a blood-soaked pillow covering his head. One of his arms is hanging off the bed. He has at least three bullet holes in his chest and the white sheets are drenched in blood. I don’t want to believe it is Nick until I look at the other arm that is laying across the bed and I see the watch that he always wears.
I am frozen staring at Nick as Alex rushes over to the bed and checks for a pulse. He closes his eyes and shakes his head as he looks at me.
“Adele, we need to get the hell out of here,” Alex says as he grabs my arm and tries to pull me out of the room.
I yank my arm away, staring at Nick’s lifeless body as I start to hyperventilate.
“Adele… look at me!” Alex yells as he shakes me.
“We have to get out of here. Whoever did this to him could still be close. Nick will be taken care of. Please, Adele!” Alex pleads with me and manages to get me out of the room.
“Can I have a minute with him? “I ask and Alex turns to look at Nick’s lifeless body. He nods and walks over to the door to wait for me. I say goodbye to Nick and make him a promise.
I manage to stay strong until we are out of the condo. Alex said we should walk out as calmly as we walked in. We can’t make ourselves look suspicious or we’d be the first ones’ people would think of when Nick’s body. If Nick’s body is found. I want to question what the hell he means when he says ‘if’ Nick’s body is found?
When I climb into Alex’s car, I break down. I cry until we get home and Alex puts me to bed and I cry myself to sleep.
