Dirty Assets (Soul of the Sinner- Book 2) by Rumer Raines (29)

Alex

It bothered me to hear Adele cry all the way home. I reached over to hold her hand and I noticed that she flinched whenever I touched her. When we finally got home, she just sat there; she didn’t even attempt to get out. I carried her into the house and took her directly to bed. I covered her with a blanket, but couldn’t walk away from her. I laid down, pulling her against my chest and just held her while she cried. When she eventually cried herself to sleep, I quietly snuck out knowing I had shit to take care.

I call Frank, Thomas, and Oliver and let them know what happened with Nick. They each determine what they will do to keep Adele out of this shit. Frank asks if Adele is staying at my place and I tell him that she is and she’s not leaving. If she wouldn’t have sneaked out last night, she would have been in that room with Nick. She could be dead too and that is something I won’t let happen while I am breathing. Thomas will be checking out the condo to see if Nick’s body has been found yet. The worst part of all this is, we don’t know if this was a hit from some other family that wants our turf in Chicago or was this Garth? I know this is a bad thing to say, but I hope this is a family testing us and not Adele’s husband. I can deal with another family and I know how to react. If it’s the mob, we’ll go toe to toe with them. We’ll kill them all if that’s what it takes. If Adele’s husband killed Nick, that’s a different story. If he did this, he is more than a woman beater, he is a fucking murderer and he’s after my woman.

It’s been a few hours since I left Adele lying in bed. I walk back into the bedroom to check on her and I see that she’s awake. She is curled up into a ball and the covers are practically up to her eyes. I climb into bed and curl up behind her pulling her back into my chest. I can feel her shivering even though she is under the covers.

“He did it,” Adele whispers.

“Who did it, baby?” I ask her as I tighten my hold on her.

“Garth. He killed Nick.”

“Why do you think that?” I ask her as I listen for her answer.

“He told me. He said that if I ever walked away from him, he’d kill anyone that kept us apart,” Adele says as she starts to cry

I don’t say anything after hearing her make this statement. I just hold her and think of how I can find this guy to make him pay. Adele walked away from me the last time I threatened to kill Garth, so I won’t make that mistake again. I won’t tell her all. I can do is make sure it happens.

“I don’t want him to hurt you, Alex.”

“Baby, you don’t have to worry about me. I’m sorry about Nick, but I am glad you weren’t there,” I tell her and she pulls my arm tighter and places her hand on mine.

We lie like that until my phone rings and Adele turns me loose knowing I should answer it. I check the caller ID and see that it’s Thomas. I leave the bedroom to talk to him since I don’t want Adele overhearing any of the conversation.

“Hello,” I quietly answer as I walk out of the bedroom.

“Hey. I don’t know if this is good or bad news. I got there before the housekeeper. Check out went well,” Thomas tells me and I have been in the business enough to know what he is talking about. He got rid of the body, the blood removed, and clean sheets were probably put on the bed. As far as everyone is concerned, Nick left the condo and is on vacation happy and healthy. I close my eyes wondering what I will tell Adele. She’ll ask questions that I won’t want to answer. She’ll probably be expecting a funeral for Nick and will want to attend. Unfortunately, there won’t be a funeral because as far as anyone will know Nick is fine. He’ll simply disappear and I plan on making Garth do the same.

“There is one thing, Alex.”

“What is it?” I ask.

“When we cleaned the room, Nick’s cell phone was missing. It’s 2017, so it’s obvious he has one, but we didn’t find it.” Thomas tells me and I close my eyes wondering if Garth took it. Nick would have had Adele’s phone number listed and I close my eyes to avoid getting pissed.

“Okay. We’ll have to deal with that if it comes up. Thanks for taking care of this, Thomas.”

“Family takes care of each other Alex,” Thomas says before he hangs up.

I walk into my office and pour myself a glass of bourbon. I rub my hand across my beard realizing that it’s been days since I shaved. I have not been myself lately and I need to refocus. I am Alex Deluca, the ruthless, reckless mother fucker that stole drugs and a cop’s car from a police station. I run shit, it doesn’t run me. There is no way I am going to let this wife-beating bastard run things in my town and with my woman. He found her at Deluca’s which was strike one, showing up at the restaurant with Adele and Alexis was strike two, killing Nick was strike number three and this fucker is about to have me put him out.

I take another swallow of the bourbon and look up to find Adele standing in the door. Our eyes meet and she walks into the office and around the desk. I push back my chair as she stands between me and the desk. We both know what the other needs and Adele starts to take off her clothes. She lifts her shirt and tosses it to the floor. She follows with her bra, pants, and panties and I just watch her. When she is completely naked and at my mercy, I stand up and lift her to my desk. She pulls me so that my mouth touches her and we practically maul each other and she manages to bite my lip as she kisses me. I pull back and wipe the blood off my lip and she blushes.

Before she says anything, I kiss her to silence her as I start to unbutton my pants. I pull them down and kick them off as Adele grabs my already hard dick and starts stroking me. She wraps her hands around it and she rubs it up and down and pumps it back and forth. The last thing I am going to do right now is come in her hand. I push her legs open, moving between them and lean against her so that she must lie back on the desk as I angle my dick up to her entrance. I thrust inside her with more force than necessary and Adele screams. I make sure that every inch of my dick is inside her as I thrust in and out of her tight, wet pussy. In and out, harder and harder I push inside and pull out while Adele moans and screams my name. The only sound coming from my office is moaning and grunting and a lot of swearing, but I am in a place I never want to leave.

“Alex…don’t …stop…,” Adele moans as I continue to thrust as hard as I can into her.

“Fuck…so…good,” I grunt as I pull back to pinch her clit.

“Do... you… feel… AHH…” Adele groans as she comes a few seconds later.

“FUCK!” I yell as come inside her.

We stay joined until we both can calm our breathing and when I finally pull out of her, I notice some of my come dripping down her leg.

“Oh, shit. We didn’t use a condom.” I close my eyes and look at her.

“Are you on the pill, Adele?” I ask her as she bends over to start grabbing her clothes and I notice she doesn’t answer.

“Adele?” I ask again as I put my hand on her arm to get her attention.

“No. Look, Alex, I have been so stressed lately I doubt I would get pregnant. Don’t worry about it, if I did it would be my issue and not yours.” She says as she yanks her arm from me and tries to walk away.
