Grit (King's Harlots #1) by J.M. Walker (8)

JAY SCREAMING my name set off something inside of me. The sounds reverberated through my soul, cracking it into pieces until all I felt was her. In the beginning, when I had set out for Jay, I had every intention of making it a one-time thing. But there was something about her that made me want more. She was a drug, and I was addicted.

It had been a couple of hours since I fucked her senseless, but judging by the semi-hard erection I sported, I was good to go again. I could also rub one out. Next time, I would do it for her. Let her watch. Let her see what she did to me. I could strap her down; tie her to my bed and keep her there until she begged. Again. I never realized how much it would turn me on until the words left her mouth.

She stirred beside me, a soft sigh escaping her delicious mouth.

“Sleep, princess.” I kissed her shoulder. “I’m not done with you yet.”

I pulled myself from her grip and got dressed, leaving the warmth of Jay’s bed and body.

Before leaving the room, I glanced back at her sleeping form. The sheets were wrapped around her waist, exposing her back. My mouth watered, itching to taste her again and kiss and suck every inch of her. My dick twitched. She would be the death of me. And I would be back for her.

I headed out into the vast room that held a bar, pool tables, and several tables and chairs. Coffee. That was what I needed first and foremost.

“Coffee?”

I turned at the sound of a female voice and found Max holding out a steaming mug.

“Did you take care of my girl?”

“You should ask her that,” I said, grabbing the mug from her.

She laughed. “I’m Max.”

“I know.” Sitting on the stool, I took a sip of the coffee, letting the peaceful bliss wash over me.

“And you are?”

“Angel Rodriguez.” Thoughts of Jay screaming my name the night before almost rendered me breathless. It brought forth the animal within. The beast who wanted to rip her apart, giving her everything she craved and fulfill all of her waking desires.

“Nice to meet you, Angel. I should say this before whatever—” Max waved a hand in front of her “—happens between you and Jay.”

“I’m listening.” I placed the mug on the counter and crossed my arms under my chest.

“If you hurt her, I will gut you where you sleep, letting you bleed out until you die in your own puddle of filth.”

I blinked once. Twice. And then threw my head back and laughed. “Fuck, I think you’re my new best friend.”

Her eyes twinkled. “I aim to please.”

“I could say the same about you and Dale.”

“Uh…” Her cheeks reddened. “There is nothing going on there.”

Not that she cared to admit, at least. I knew how Dale worked. He would inch his way into a woman’s life, take over her mind, body, and soul. There had been one. Always one that rips your heart out and leaves you standing alone and falling to pieces.

“Besides, Dale is after a good time. Nothing else.” She shrugged, running a finger around the ring of the mug.

Huh, interesting. “He’s a good guy. Be patient with him.”

She nodded once and grabbed some more coffee. “More?” she offered.

“No, thank you.” My phone rang. “Yeah.”

“Shit, man. Where the hell have you been?” Dale barked, demanding answers that he wouldn’t get.

“Out.”

“The boss is asking for you. He’s pissed, Angel.”

Fucking great. “I’m on my way.”

“You went against orders. You and your no bullshit attitude is going to get you and your men killed.”

I stood with my hands at my sides, my back rigged and straight, taking in all that my boss threw at me.

Colonel Eric Vega ripped me a new one. Yelling about morals, the safety of my men, disobeying strict orders, blah blah fucking blah. He also told me I should have reported to him first before fucking off and doing whatever it was that I did.

Jay. I did her good and hard. Fuck me, my dick hurt from the many times I had taken her. Her tight body squeezed me like a vice, her warm mouth sucking me dry. Her moans and pleas for more—

“Angel.”

Clearing my throat, I glanced at Vega.

“Pay attention,” he barked and continued to tear me apart.

I knew everything he was telling me. I never once forced my men to do anything they weren’t inclined to do. I gave them a direct order, and they followed. Willing and ready. We worked well together. Vice-One was more than a team; we were family. Brothers. Not by blood, but by power, strength and commitment alone. I loved them like they were my own. They were a part of me.

“Are you even listening to me?”

“Yes, Colonel,” I mumbled.

“Tell me what I said then.” Vega leaned back in his seat, tenting his fingers and waited.

“Keep my men safe. Stop being an asshat, and think about what I do before I do it.”

Vega sighed. “You are one of the best. I know this. Your team knows this, but you’re going to get yourself killed.”

“Those women needed to be saved.”

“You were under direct orders to head back to base. You shouldn’t have been in there in the first place, Angel. That was not the mission. That is not your fucking job. You know that. You did what you were set out to do, what you were sent on the mission for in the first place.”

“I—”

Vega slammed his fist down on the top of the desk. “No. No fucking arguments this time. You’re going on unpaid leave until I need you again.”

“Excuse me?”

Dark eyes narrowed at me. “Do not question my authority. You’re lucky I don’t fucking send you home for good.”

I bit back a smirk, knowing it would never happen. I was the best. But being on leave would be shitty as hell.

Vega waved his hand. “You’re dismissed. I’m giving you a month to get your shit together. When you come back, if this I-am-an-island crap happens again, I will do everything in my power to make sure you never step onto SEAL soil again. Understood?”

I gritted my teeth and nodded.

“Leave.”

I turned around and left the office, heading to the locker room. People passed me, clapping me on the back, congratulating me on saving four women. I ignored them. Not paying attention in the least at the praise. I was staying home. For a month. And didn’t that just make me feel even more like a failure?
