Epilogue

One year later

~Foreign ~

Looking back as a reflection, it is hard to believe how far we’ve come from the way things were when I rushed out on Christian, to finding a true and amazing love, to ending up married and with a child just nine months later. I would have never believed this could happen to me, but having Christian by my side the whole way, truly made life worth living.

I looked down at the sleeping child in my arms. Christian Jr. was just three weeks old and the true light at a very long and winding tunnel. I kissed the top of his forehead. “Mommy and Daddy loves you,” I whispered. If he had been awake or old enough to respond, I know exactly what would have followed my statement, but I would have to wait awhile for that, at least until he could speak.

There was a light tap on the door of the nursery. I looked up to find Christian standing there. He still made my heart skip a beat every time he smiled at me. He entered the room and walked over to the rocking chair, where I was still rocking Christian in my arms. “This makes a beautiful picture,” he said. He kissed me softly and then brushed a kiss on Christian’s forehead.

“How was work?” I asked.

“It was good.”

Christian made me proud every day. He had gotten a job in Arrow, working as a Senior Software Analyst. He was able to hone in his skills and bring the technology with him. I was able to finish my schooling, even through the hectic planning of a wedding, which happened three months after the engagement, through the pregnancy, and graduating top of my class.

Christian and I bought a large home together and even though I fought tooth and nail for him to let me cover half of it, he won out. It was something I would never let him live down, because I wanted to contribute. It just wasn’t worth the fight. I had other ways of helping out around the home. And with Christian Jr. newly born, I planned on making good on keeping my promise that this wasn’t going to be a one-sided marriage.

In fact, in just over a month, I would be taking the reins at Daniel’s Fabrics. I was excited for that new adventure and it would allot me to work full-time at my favorite job of all…being a mother.

Ma-ling would be retiring from everything outside of family life, so she could be around to spend all her time with the grandchildren. It was going to also be nice to have the family come to Colorado and both Christian and I were anxious to take some more vacation time to LA.

It was hard to leave Tommy’s. I didn’t think I would ever say that, but the truth was that I did end up missing it right after I left. Luckily, I had a ton of things to keep me busy, making it much easier to take the step back from the one job I never meant to make a career out of.

I did see Nevaeh and Mahogany as often as I could. In fact, just yesterday Mahogany had come over to give me her news. She would be expecting her second child. We joked that if it was another girl for her, then maybe Christian and her daughter would wind up getting together. You just never did know.  The baby was a blessing for their family, as Mahogany’s mother didn’t have much time. Mahogany was slowly letting her in, but time was dwindling, and they could only hope she would make it to the birth.

Nevaeh and Orion got married a month after we did, and they were struggling with getting pregnant and so she was looking at adoption. She was on a long list, but their name was at the top. It was going to happen very soon. I could just feel it.

And Kat and Tommy were doing amazing, despite Tommy being a little sad that I had to leave the business. I knew he would miss me, but over time things were getting easier for him. If he needed help at the restaurant, he knew without a doubt he could count on me to be backup, but that would come after I was readily willing to leave Christian home with a nanny. I didn’t think that would happen all that soon.

“I think he’s sound asleep. You probably could put him to down in the crib,” Christian said.

I chuckled softly. I knew he was right but putting him down was something I didn’t like doing, but it was also something I had to learn to live with. I slowly stood up and walked Christian Jr. over to the crib. I laid him down and just stared at him for a minute. No one ever told me that a Mother’s Love would be so consuming.

I looked up and saw Christian turning on his monitor and then he walked over and grabbed my hand. We slowly left the nursery and closed the door, leaving it open ajar. “Where are we going?” I asked.

He tossed a look over his shoulder. “You’ll see.”

We walked down the stairs, but I stopped him. “Christian might wake up,” I argued.

He laughed. “Baby, we’re not going far. Besides…” He walked over to the living room, where the wireless monitor was on the coffee table, then motioned with his head for me to follow him. At least he was thinking, bringing the monitor with us.

We went out the back door and I followed him to the driveway. Sitting in the middle of the driveway was a red Camaro. The top was down and there was a big bow around the hood of it. I turned at him, my jaw dropped. “What in the world…where’d this come from?” I asked.

“The dealership,” he said.

I laughed. “I know that, but why? It’s not practical…I have car seats and diaper bags and more children on the way hopefully,” I said.

He shrugged. “This is for when you want to go out with the girls,” he said. “Or, you just want to drive with the top down and the wind in your hair.” He winked at me and I groaned.

“But baby…” I started, moving closer to him. I grabbed onto his shirt and pulled him to me. “You know how I like to pay half my share. I have the money. You don’t need to spoil me.”

“I know, but it’s a husband’s duty,” he said. He brushed a kiss on my lips.

I laughed between his lips and snaked my hand around the back of his neck. Heaven knows I was loving the car. Yet, I felt a little bad like I was taking advantage of him, at times. “You know what else is a husband’s duty?” I asked, parting from his lips and staring at him.

“Oh yes…” he said. He reached underneath my shirt and slipped his hand up the back of it. I grabbed his hand that wasn’t holding the monitor and turned back to the house. We rushed through the back door and I turned back to him, my lips rushing back to his.

We started to let the clothes leave a trail from the kitchen to upstairs, where our bedroom sat right next to the nursery. He pushed me down to the bed and there was no time to waste. I had to find some way to thank him for the car and this was the best way I knew how, pleasuring him, and thanking him for my beautiful life.

The End of another series.
