Avenged Hearts (Mastered Hearts Book 3) by Angela Nicole (29)

Franny

I can’t believe Miller and Anderson left before the girls could complete the deal. I’m frustrated beyond fuck. As I walk into the clubhouse, I hear Dagger screaming at someone.

I know I need to tread lightly when he’s like this, but maybe he’ll say something I can use against him.

“I can’t fucking believe this. I told you to pay Walton more money. What do you mean, he’s in protective custody?” Dagger bellows.

“Goddamn it, Miller.”

I trip over someone’s boots in the hall. Shit.

“I’ll call you back.”

I have my cell phone in my pocket, and I press Vinny’s number. If he’s going to admit something to me, I want Vinny to hear it. This is a tactic Vinny and I discussed. If I ever thought I was in trouble, I was to get him on the phone, so he could listen.

Dagger comes around the corner. Time to put my acting skills to the test.

“Hey, baby,” I coo.

“What the fuck are you doing here? I thought you were out shopping all day?”

“I didn’t see anything I liked. And I missed you, Dagger. I haven’t seen much of you lately.”

Dagger grabs me by the arms. “And who’s fault is that, bitch?”

His eyes are filled with rage. “You’re never around anymore, Fran. You’re always out with your friends. I’m fucking sick of it.”

I need to calm him down quickly. If I don’t, Vinny may come and do something stupid.

“I’m sorry, Dagger. I didn’t mean anything by spending time with Sheri. You just seem so distant lately.”

I cuddle up next to him and it churns my stomach. As I feel some of the tension start to leave his body, he gets a text.

He pushes me aside rather abruptly, and I almost fall. I study his face as he reads the message, and see the rage come back.

“Fuck, I have to go.”

“Where are you going, Dagger?”

He starts off down the hall to our bedroom. I know it’s probably not the smartest move, but I follow him.

“Dagger, can I come with you?” I call to his back as he moves quickly.

When I reach our bedroom, Dagger is rooting through his clothes. There’s a duffle bag on the bed.

“Dagger, please talk to me. Where are you going?”

Come on, give me something here.

“Fran, I gotta get out of town for a bit, OK? Now, stop asking questions.”

“Well, can I come with you?”

“Jesus Christ, Fran. Can’t you just stop for once?”

I need to press him further. I need to be where he is, so I can get information.

“Dagger, you just said that we don’t spend any time together anymore. This is our chance. Please, take me with you.”

Dagger goes into the bathroom and gathers some stuff, throwing it in his bag.

Time to step up the acting. I begin to sniffle, tears overflowing and falling down my cheeks.

“Why are you crying, Fran?”

“I don’t want to be here without you, Dagger. Crash has been giving me looks. Ya know, like he wants me to suck his dick or something. I just don’t want to be here without you.”

I can see he’s fighting with himself.

“I’d kill Crash if he touched you. You’re not a club whore and he knows it.”

I rub up against him. “Please, baby, I’m in this with you, whatever it is.”

“Fran, if I take you with me, we may never come back. I can’t guarantee it.”

“Then take me. I couldn’t bear to be here without you.”

“Hurry up and pack your shit.”

I quickly gather some stuff and throw it in a bag. “I gotta pee first before we get on the bike.”

“Hurry the fuck up, Fran. I mean it.”

I lock myself in the bathroom and pull out my phone.

“Vinny?”
