Avenged Hearts (Mastered Hearts Book 3) by Angela Nicole (2)

Colton

Damn, I didn’t want to leave Goldie this morning. That’s what I call her. We didn’t exchange names, which was fine with me. Last night was a one-night hookup but that doesn’t mean I won’t miss her body and her smart mouth. I will.

Goldie submitted to me as I knew she would. When I met her at Cheeser’s, she was wound fucking tight. That wasn’t the only thing tight about her. Her damn body was made for me.

I figured out the girl has a chip on her shoulder, but what it is, I don’t know. I do know she wasn’t in any mood to talk and neither was I. Blondie needed release and I needed to be in control. We both got what we needed.

Just as I’m about to walk into my shop, I hear Viper call my name.

“Hey, Murph. We need to talk.”

When Viper’s not bartending at Cheeser’s, he helps me out at the shop. His real name is Vincent Wright, and he runs information to me from the Falcons MC. He’s not a club member but his fuck buddy is Dagger’s old lady.

Dagger took my father’s place as the Sergeant-at-Arms. My father, Richard Murphy, was murdered four years ago. The police report claims it was suicide. They said he committed suicide because he killed a cop and they were closing in on him.

“Wait until we get into the shop before you say anything.” I’m not even looking at Viper, but I can sense he’s got something good to tell me.

Opening the door to my shop, Viper pushes me in.

“Fuck, Viper. What’s your problem?”

“Sorry, man. I felt like I was being followed.”

I chuckle. “You are allowed to come get your bike fixed, man. There isn’t anything nefarious about that shit.” I didn’t want to get Viper or Franny involved in my shit, but she volunteered to help. These two hang out in the back of my shop, sight unseen. At least for now.

I’ve warned them to stay away from each other. They are playing with fire, and I’m afraid one—or both—of them are going to end up dead. Viper is a great guy, although sometimes, he has his head up his ass.

I throw my keys on my desk, then start a pot of coffee. Instead of having coffee with Viper, I should be having it in bed with Goldie.

Fuck. I know she didn’t want to talk about herself or her life, but I feel like an ass leaving before she woke.

“Hey man. I don’t have a lot of time.”

“All right, what you got for me?” I ask.

“So, Franny told me she overheard Dagger talking with Shep. They were discussing omitting part of the haul they earned from the last gun haul. They want to keep part off the books.”

Shep is the Falcons’ treasurer. Why would they want to keep money off their own books? “Do you think they are skimming off the club?”

“Don’t know, Murph. Franny is going to do some more digging and let me know.”

I rub the back of my neck. “Christ. I wish you two would let me handle my shit on my own. I don’t want you getting involved with the Falcons, Viper.”

“Look man, I don’t ask her to help. Franny just tells me, OK? She has a soft spot for me and considers you a friend. She really wants to help you find out what happened to your dad.”

“Yeah, OK. Just as long as that soft spot doesn’t get you killed.”
