After All This Time: Love or Money by Brown, Brittainy (26)

A Coincidence

The good vibes were flowing like magic in the club and everyone was hyped up, hands in the air, bodies coiling to the sound of the music, all having a good time. Emily held Tom’s hand closely as they slipped in among the crowd. There seemed to be no space available but as they got to the center of the floor, space magically appeared.

This was something she had never done before and she was so excited she felt like screaming her head off. Now they were dancing together, she couldn’t tell what class of music it was, she was super excited. Tom’s hands were all over her hips as she twisted and turned.

“This is really fun!” she screamed into his ears.

“Yes.” He screamed back.

“I have never done this before.”

“Well, I thought as much. Your life has been very one-way traffic.”

She laughed as he yelled back at her. He was right. Her life had been very one-way traffic. If she wasn’t on a trip with Liam, she was at home with him or at the movies. He had never taken her to a place like this before and she loved it. Maybe the break was good for her anyway. Right now, she shouldn’t be thinking of Liam, right now, she should be fully concentrated on the handsome devil that was in front of her. He had flown down to the city just to make her have a good time and she was going to have just that and nothing else.

“Wow! This place is off the hook,” Charlotte yelled as they entered the club. Everywhere was packed to the brim and the music was loud.

Liam looked around for a place where they could sit and spotted two empty seats at the bar.

“There,” he said, pointing towards the bar.

Carefully, they maneuvered their way to the empty stools.

“Wow! It’s been such a long time since I last came to a club,” Charlotte shouted, looking around.

“Me too,” he said, close to her ear.

“So, how did you know about this place then?”

“Well, a man knows everything right?”

They both smiled.

Charlotte was still looking around while Liam ordered drinks for them. While looking around, she saw someone who looked like Emily dancing but there was such a croud that after she blinked, she didn’t see her again.

Liam handed her a drink. “Are you okay? You look like you might have seen a ghost.”

“Well, I’m not sure of what I saw. Does, your girlfriend visit clubs?”

He scoffed. “Emily? Never! She is too busy building her career to have a time for that.”

“Well, have you ever tried asking her before?”

Liam lifted the drink to his lips. “Nope. I don’t think so. She is not club-type. She is more of a dinner, movie type.”

“But you never asked her if she would like it, right?”

Liam finally nodded. “Well, I assume she wouldn’t. I do know her. What’s with the questions?”

“Well, I just thought I saw someone that looked like her that’s all.”

“What? Emily, here? I doubt that. She must be locked in her room, working herself up to kiss Joe’s ass.”

Charlotte smiled. “Are you still angry?”

“What? About her?”

She nodded.

“Not that I was initially. The truth is, I don’t really care anymore.”

“So you wouldn’t care even if she is on a date with someone else and dancing like Jagger?”

Liam put down his drink. “Now, what are you talking about.”

Charlotte brought a hand to his jaw and turned his head towards an angle she was also looking towards. Liam’s jaw dropped as he saw Emily on the dance floor, dancing as if she owned the floor and worse, she was with that idiot!

Charlotte watched Liam whose countenance just changed as he watched the couple. Out of concern for the glass in his hand, she reached out to take the drink from him but he gripped it tightly and then lifted the cup to his lips to drain it completely before slamming the bottom of the cup against the counter.

For a while, he said nothing. Liam couldn’t believe that she could dance like that. In fact, he couldn’t believe that she could come to a place like this and dance like that after he just broke up with her, with that same man. How could she be so cruel?

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“How good are you at dancing?” he grumbled.

“What?”

“Would you like to dance?” he asked again.

Charlotte looked surprised, and then smiled. “I thought you would never ask.”

They both looked happy and then he stood up, she slid a hand into his bent arm and together, they marched to the dance floor.

Emily was getting exhausted. Her cloth was soaked, clinging to her back delightfully.

“I think I need a drink, Tom.”She whispered to Tom’s ears.

“Okay baby, I will be right back.” Tom kissed her on the cheek before he disappeared into the crowd.

Now she was alone and the music had changed, yet she was moving slowly to the beat. She was feeling awkward and really hoped he would hurry up.

“Hey, want to dance?’ a drunk guy asked close to her.

“No, my partner will be here soon.”She replied, turning around.

“Aww, too bad,” the man said before walking to another lady. She continued to tail him with her eyes for no special reason until she saw what she assumed was probably not what she thought she was seeing. She rubbed her eyes and checked again, and yes, there was Liam with a very pretty woman in his arms. They seemed to be lost in whatever world they were in.

Her back was turned to him, while he held her from the behind. They were both smiling and dancing sweetly. They were even holding hands and her other hand was fixed gingerly on his cheek… he was smiling.

For a while, Emily was dumbfounded. She was suddenly not thirsty again. How could they be at the same club with different people? She had always thought that Liam was never the club type and now here he was and who was that lady?

She suddenly remembered what Joe had told her earlier that day. Wow! Joe was right, after all, Liam was seeing someone else. Without waiting for Tom, she began to find a way out of the place. As she kept squeezing herself in between the crowd, she bumped into Tom, who was on his way back.

“Emily. What’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked

“Can we just go?” she asked, trying to hold back the tears.

“Now?”

“Yes please.”

“Okay, come with me.”
