Bow & Arrow by A. Cramton (20)

Cuba

She’s mad at me still. Of course, she would be, but her little tease dance with India threw me off. Then she was gone. Ash left Cam and I when he found out Amanda was here, now we have no idea where he is. We rode together so he can’t be far. We make our way to the kitchen, girls grabbing us trying to get us to stop and talk but I pull away. I’m not interested and last thing I want is for Bliss to see me with another girl.

When we get in the kitchen, we see Dylan at the makeshift bar making a drink but what catches my attention is the white powder from a pill capsule he’s mixing into it. Nudging Cam, I nod my head in Dylan’s direction.

“Yo, Dylan,” Cam calls out. “Since when do you need to drug a girl to get your dick wet.”

Startled, Dylan knocks over the cup, the contents splashing on the floor, he cruses under his breath. “What the fuck, Cam. Mind your own fucking business.”

“This is my business when it comes to dudes like you who want to drug a girl to get laid,” he says stepping on the cup, it cracks under his weight.

Dylan turns red. “She wants it, she doesn’t know. Claims she has a boyfriend but I know that bitch is single.”

“If she’s lying about having a boyfriend that means she not interested, bruh.” I narrow my eyes. “How many drinks have you given her?”

That’s one thing the basketball team does not fuck with, we don’t tolerate drugging chicks, whether it’s our party or not. Everyone knows that, Dylan knows that, so I don’t see why he’s trying to justify it.

Dylan doesn’t answer me. “How many?” I ask again.

“Just two.”

Cam pushes him against the counter. “Who the fuck is she?”

“You’re not about to fuck up my night.” Dylan stands up straight. “It’s just a little something to make her more comfortable.” He smirks.

This fucker is asking to get his ass beat tonight.

“Look, just tell us who she is, and we won’t fuck you up,” I offer. “It’s really simple.”

We’ll find the girl and get her home safely, this wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done this. Jackson and I had to do it before.

Dylan clamps his mouth shut in a hard line when the back-door busts open. India pushes Cam out of the way and punches Dylan in the face, making his head snap back.

“What the fuck did you give her!” she screams, her eyes wild with fear. “Tell me now!” Dylan’s face turns red in anger.

Cam is grabs her to get her attention. “Who?”

My stomach dips.

“Bliss.” She tries to break free to swing at Dylan. “Something is wrong with her.”

Just then, Ash walks in and I’m handing him my keys, he looks at me confused. “Get Bliss to my car now.” He doesn’t say anything as he follows India out the back door.

My eyes don’t leave Dylan. He’s cornered with Cam on his other side. The kitchen goes quiet and I see him visibly swallow.

There’s a crowd forming, and I don’t give a fuck as I come inches from him. I can smell the Hennessey on his breath.

“You know what your first mistake was, Dylan?” I ask him slowly, anger is racing up my body and I’m shaking.

He has the nerve to smirk. “Getting caught by you assholes?” He shrugs. “You’re back on campus and you think you’re running things again, but times have changed, Knight.”

“Wrong answer,” Cam says, his fist connecting to his jaw. “Try again.”

Blood trickles out of the corner of Dylan’s mouth, and his eyes narrow, but he doesn’t make a move or say anything.

“Your first mistake was not believing she had a boyfriend,” I tell him calmly.

“She doesn’t, they broke up a while ago,” he spits at me.

“Like I was saying, you should have believed her, because her boyfriend is in front of you.”

His eyes widen but I don’t let him try to respond before my fist cracks against his jaw. I don’t give him a chance to react before my fist slams into his nose, causing blood to gush out of his nostrils. He yells in pain, sinking to the floor.

“You broke my fucking nose!” Dylan shouts, as he holds his hands to his face.

I squat down, and he flinches, making me smirk. “I’ll break more than your nose if I catch you drugging a drink again. I don’t give a fuck who she is,” I tell him. “Not only was drugging a drink your mistake, the biggest one is you drugging my girlfriend.”

Cams sneaker collides with Dylan’s stomach making him grunt. “Fuck, boy.”

“What the fuck is going on?”

I turn to see Kevin, the frat president, stalking up to us, his eyes on me then Dylan. “What the hell Cuba?”

I don’t give a fuck if they’re frat brothers. “Get your boy because if I catch him drugging another drink I can’t be reliable.”

Kevin’s eyes narrow on his brother. “Are you fucking kidding me?” he snaps. “Who was it? Where is she?”

“My girlfriend.”

That’s the second time I called her my girlfriend, in front of everyone at this party and Bliss doesn’t even know it yet. It just comes out so easy and I don’t regret it.

“Fuck, man,” Kevin starts. “I’ll handle it.”

I give Dylan one more look before pushing through the crowd to get to Bliss. No one says shit to me on my way to the door, and once I’m outside I hear the music pick up. Nosey ass people.

“Girlfriend, huh?” Cam says behind me, I hear the smile in his voice.

I don’t answer him while I power walk down the street to my car. Fuck, I hope she’s okay. My mind is racing as I see the passenger doors open. Ash is leaning in opening of the front seat, India trying to peer over his shoulder. I smell vomit before I reach them, and I know it has to be Bliss’s.

“Is she okay?” I push past Ash who is wiping her mouth with a towel he probably found in the back seat.

Her normally stormy eyes are darkened and out of focus, tears are streaming down her face and she’s shaking. I want to go back and kill Dylan.

Squatting on the curb, I caress the side of her face. “Baby, can you hear me?”

Her eyes never move to me, as if she doesn’t even know I’m here. Standing slowly, I turn to India. “How many drinks?” I can barely get the question out. I have to make sure that Dylan was telling me the truth.

India blinks back tears. “Two, just two but Ash got her to throw up.” She motions to the puddle by my tire. “Should we take her the hospital?”

“No,” Ash says, his fingers pressed to the inside of her wrist. “Her pulse is steady, think we got most of it. She needs to sleep it off.”

I grip the back of my neck. “Fuck.” Looking back to my girl, I notice her eyes closing. “I’m going to get her home.”

Ash buckles her in and closes the door. “Keep her hydrated, every time she wakes up have her drink water.”

“And we’ll get India home.” Cam pats my back.

To be honest, I don’t give a fuck about India or how the fuck she gets home. How didn’t she see that shit happen? How the fuck are they both so fucking careless? What would have happened if I wasn’t there or if India left with that guy?

I can’t even think about it.

“Yeah, I’ll hit you up later.” I don’t even look at them before I slid into the driver seat and get the fuck out of there.

I’m holding on tight to Bliss’s limp hand the whole way to my condo. I think of all the ways I’m going to ruin his fucking life. Dylan said I don’t run the campus, now I’m going to show him that I still do and no one should ever fuck with what is mine.

My fingers run through her silky hair as she sleeps next to me. To say we had a rough night is an understatement. I barely got her through the front door before she threw up again in the foyer; luckily, I dodged it and got her to my bathroom with no other incidents. Deciding to pass on a bath, I stripped her ruined clothes off and threw her purse on the chair at my desk. Bliss doesn’t wake but shivers, and I hurry to wipe her down with a warm washcloth before dressing her in a pair of my boxers and a tee shirt.

I carried her to bed, laying her gently down and covering her up with covers, pulling my waste basket to her side, just in case. I almost throw up myself, cleaning up the mess in the foyer, but I managed to clean up the mess and throw her clothes in the washer without losing my shit.

Now I lie here staring at her, she has no idea what she means to me, and I plan on telling her the moment she wakes up. I can’t believe I almost let her slip away from me. To think I was that stupid. I knew the moment I saw her at the party that she was mine, and seeing what that fucker did, it just made me see clearer. I need her. She is mine. I just hope when morning comes she doesn’t push me away, that she forgives me, and still wants me to be her asshole.

Pressing my lips to her forehead, I let myself drift off, but I don’t let go of her.
