Bow & Arrow by A. Cramton (35)

Cuba

Bliss whirls around the kitchen getting the lasagna ready to go in the oven. She really did plan on having me over if she’s making one of my favorites. It’s only been a week and I missed her in my kitchen, making me dinner, hell, sometimes all three meals. I became very used to it, very used and attached to my girl. The lilies I bought her sit in a vase in front of me, I don’t know too much about flowers, actually, I know nothing, but the internet says that lilies mean sorry. Don’t hold me to that though. I know I will be saying sorry a lot, so I might as well learn it in different ways.

Bliss walks over with two glasses and sits across from me. I want her closer, but I don’t push it. Just glad I’m here, hell.

“I made lemonade.” She shrugs. Her stormy eyes look away from me. “So, we should talk.”

I nod. “Talk, test, then dinner.” She agrees, nodding back. “So where should I start?”

She lifts the glass to her mouth. “The beginning,” she offers before taking a drink.

Right, of course, the start of the shit show.

“Jackson used to date her, I guess,” I rub the back of my neck. “I don’t know, she never met the family, so I didn’t take her seriously, and he never brought her back to our place. After the game she showed up to my room with a bottle, claimed she wanted to talk about Jackson.” I drop my hand and take a breath. “It was fine at first, we took a few shots but then she said something that I didn’t like, and I told her she needed to leave, she put her hand on my chest, and I squeezed it, and told her to get the fuck out of my room. Then you walked in and you know how that turned out.”

Bliss bits her lip and nods. “So why were you shirtless and why did you even let her in?” Hurt passes over her gaze and I hate it.

“I was about to get in the shower, so I could facetime you after,” I tell her. “And honestly, babe, I didn’t even think about. I have no interest in her, and knew nothing was going to happen with her, just talk. I didn’t stop to think of the possible consequences. But I’ve never been in a relationship. It’s not an excuse, I’m going to fuck this up a lot, just give me a chance.”

Her eyes finally meet mine and unsureness snakes around her. She wants to believe me, but she doesn’t know if she should. She wants me back as much as I want her, but she’s scared, and I can’t blame her.

Am I worth the risk, again? I’d like to hope like hell so.

“Why do you love me, Cuba?” she asks softly.

Licking my lips, I motion her to me. “Come here and I’ll tell you why I love you, Arrow.”

She looks unsure but then slowly stands up and takes light steps toward me, her hips swaying with each step until she’s in front of me. “Sit,” I tell her, guiding her to straddle me so that we are facing each other.

“So, why do I love you?” I adjust under her, my hands resting on her hips, although I want to run them all over her body.

“I love you because you pushed me. I love you because you stayed around when I wasn’t the easiest to deal with. I love you because you gave me hope, you believed in me during a time I didn’t believe in myself.” A tear escapes her eye, and this time I can wipe it away, kissing the wet spot softly. “I love you because you helped me live again, Arrow, you brought me back to life.”

Her arms swing around my neck, her lips finding mine, pressing firmly against me. My hands run up her back and she shivers against me. Her mouth opens, and I deepen our kiss, our tongues caress and swirl around each other. Bliss nips my bottom lip before pulling away.

“I love you,” she whispers against my lips. “I’m sorry for what I said about Jackson, that you use him as an excuse.”

I press a kiss against the corner of her lip. “You have nothing to be sorry for baby. You were right, I did hide behind him, but no more.”

Her lips graze mine. “Still, I’m sorry.”

“No. I’m sorry, I messed up and didn’t think, I’m just happy to have you in my arms again.”

Bliss smiles. “Aw, see you’re not always an asshole.” She laughs.

The timer on the oven goes off, and I slap her ass making her squeal. “Girl, get up and make me a plate.”

Still an asshole.

Jackson,

So, for some reason that I will never know, she forgave me. For her, loving me was the easiest part, and me it was breaking her heart. I never meant to hurt her, you know? I just wanted to love her the best I could, but being a boyfriend is harder than I thought it would be in the best possible way. Bliss is a challenge I’ll always be up for. I can’t believe I’ve become that guy. I used to always make fun of Ash and his girlfriend.. But she is the love of my life. She’s perfect for me, and I know I’m less than perfect for her, but I try to be and oddly, she still loves me anyway. Anyway, on to more sappy shit, when you told me that you would still be with me on the court, I didn’t believe you, but I felt you last game. Thank you for that, I needed you there.

Love you J,

-Cuba

I lie in bed beside Bliss, tracing all her curves as she sleeps. The test was negative, and though we are glad, I know I would be happy either way. But of course, a baby is not in our near future, but it will be amazing when it is. First, I have to get us there in one piece and happy. That’s I all I want, is for her to be happy. If she wanted me to leave her alone, and she was happy, then I would do it. There isn’t much I wouldn’t do for her.

Pressing a kiss to her forehead, I slowly slip her necklace back on. When Cam gave it to me that night, I thought I really lost her, I knew I hurt her horribly if she gave me my heart back. I didn’t sleep that night, I spent most it trying to call her, begging her to come back. I shouldn’t have let her go.

The diamond initials shine under the moonlight that casts in her room. She’s mine again. I know we still have more to talk about. I know I still have a lot of making up to do but this is a start. I’ll take it.

Draping my arm around her waist, I pull her closer into me, breathing in her lavender scent that I missed during my lonely nights. Her warmth eases me, and my eyes become heavy.

Being with Bliss is like being at home again. Love.
