Craving The Boss by D.C. Rowley (26)

{Cason}

I go faster as ‘Dawn’ is playing so loud on my car. I’m excited. That woman makes me a happy man, and I’ve never felt like that.

I’m starting to realize that instead of fearing this addiction, I should embrace it. Because there is nothing wrong with being so attracted to someone to the point where you can’t stop thinking about them, while driving, or chilling and watching random movies, or showering.

Yeah, I’m thinking about Keira everywhere. Every-fucking-thing seems complete when she’s around—hell, even when she’s not physically with me.

She arouses my most savage pleasures to the fullest like no other woman. It’s her mild personality and savage behavior when it comes to sex that’s driving me into her…madder and closer.

I’m headed to work sooner than usual today. But that’s beacuse I want to see her when she comes in, in one of those dresses that are too little too short above her thighs, just so she could provoke my wildest phantasies.

I’m crazy into her. I guess that’s in the air. But I’m starting to feel like there’s more to it than I like to accept.

My phone rings and I put it on speaker.

“Mr. Cardenas?” Cody seems like he’s got news I need to get caught up with.

“Yeah, Cody?” I say.

“I think I’ve discovered something pretty concerning I’d like to run by you.”

“What is it?”

“I’m afraid you need to see this for yourself. I’m in your office right now.”

“Yeah, I’ll be there in a minute.” I say and keep driving faster.

All sorts of things cross my mind as I’m running to my office. I waddle out of the elevator, as my P.A. interrupts me.

“Sir, I’ve got the McKinnon investors on the line.”

“Not right now.” I tell her and move to my office.

“Mr. Cardenas,” there’s a little bit of concern on his eyes and I go straight to the point. I’ve hired Cody only for Keira-related issues, so it’s only normal I’m nervous to know. “You have to look at this.”

I move toward him and stop in front of the laptop. There are some licensed medical forms that I’m looking to, but I don’t get what’s behind them.

“Why are you showing me this?” I look at him inexpressibly.

“Because I thought you needed to know. This was released over four months ago by some private doctor, signing some heavy drugs for this person.” He points at the end of the screen.

His name strikes me. It’s Keira’s ex-boyfriend.

“So he’s sick?” I look at Cody and wait for further explanation.

“It seems like he’s a danger to anyone. I had a real doctor look at this, and I learned that these are some pretty serious stuff going on there.”

“You did the right thing telling me this.” I congratulate him.

“So, what are you going to do?”

“I’m going to talk to Keira. For some reason she’s convinced that he’s not dangerous or anything and I think that she’s keen on him.”

“Then, she should be aware of this.”

“Yeah, I don’t think she knew.” I look at the screen, and I’m a little concerned. I can’t let my girl be around some psycho, no matter what.

“Then you should get on with it,” Cody puts the laptop on his backpack and is about to head out.

Should I call her? I mean, I don’t want to startle her or anything. Maybe it’s for the best if I tell her when she gets here. I know how she feels about him. And I respect that. She doesn’t have any romantic interest on him and she’s proven that by rejecting him multiple times, but they’ve spent a lot of time together, and it’s only normal they’d have a soft spot for each other.

And I want her to only have eyes for me, but at the same time I don’t feel threatened by Cody. But now, he is a threat. And she has the right to know that.

My phone rings and I pick up. It’s Dustin.

“Hey, stranger.” I tell him. “It’s been a while.”

“Well, I was planning to take off sooner but you know how chicks are. They were keeping me busy and losing track of time.”

“Yeah, good for you. I’ve got updates too.” I smile, thinking of Keira. I still haven’t told him about her, because we haven’t talked to each other since I threw my old phone away.

“Me too.” He interrupts me and seems so excited. So I let him go first. “You remember that girl you hired over a month ago?”

I’m frowning. What does he have to say now about her? For some reason, I’ve got this feeling, he’s going to piss me off.

“What about her?” I scowl, and I think that my voice is escorting that.

“Dude, we got laid, at my party. Can you believe it?”

No! No. I heard this wrong. This can’t be happening. This can’t be happening!

It feels like everything has crumbled to my feet; like all the excitement is crushed in spur of moment.

“You did what with her?”

“We fucked.” He guffaws stupidly. If he were here right now, I swear the fact that he’s my best mate wouldn’t stop me from throwing a series of punches at him. “Man, some sweet stuff she got going on there. The sweetest pussy at my party. You’ve no idea.”

It tunes out that I’ve got some idea on it more than he thinks I do. But I don’t want to discuss this over the phone. This has to be disposed of in person.

“Where are you now?” I ask.

“I’m on the road. Had my household take care of my luggage. Thought I needed to see my friend.”

“So you’re headed here?” I raise an eyebrow and wait quietly.

“Damn right I am. Gonna tell you every dirty thing I did to her. You cannot believe it.”

I’m clutching my fists until they hurt. I need to punch something. A wall. A table. Just anything. But I refrain myself.

I’ll better save it for when Dustin comes over here.

“Gotta hang up now. There’s some girl’s name that I don’t recognize, but probably screwed that’s dialing me. See ya.”

“Take care.” I say. And I need him to. I need him to come here decent and all, when I make that pretty face of his bleed.

I’m furious, enraged. I can barely contain my anger. How could he do this to me? I know he’s done some pretty messed up stuff, and he’s crossed the line way too many times, but never gone as far as to screw each other’s girls. I mean, there was that one time. But still, I didn’t care about Ashley anymore and she was free to do whatever she wanted with whomever, Dustin included.

But this…this is just too much. He’s taken it too far.

He’s fooling around my P.A. and I can see him through the glass wall. God, he’s taking the meaning of fuckboy to a whole new level. My P.A. whom he occasionally screws turn out to be more important than me.

I count the seconds until he’s in.

“Now, how’s the best douche of the town?” he opens his arms, inviting me on a hug.

I smile and go to hug him. He looks happy, and amicable as always.

When I’m close enough, I take a final look at his pretty face. All the rage I’ve been collecting for the time being, comes to the fore, and I throw a rough fist on his face. My hand hurts from hitting him as hard as I could, but I don’t regret it.

“Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? What was that for?” he holds one hand on his bleeding nose and looks at me, confused.

“How did it feel, Dustin? Tell me now. Did you enjoy screwing my girl?”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“You knew I cared about her. Hell, I love her, Dustin. Did you even care about that when you shoved your fucking prick inside her?”

“Is this about Keira?” he frowns as he’s coming to understand.

“Who else would this be about?”

“Dude, I didn’t know.” He says softly, and forgets about his nose. He approaches and puts one hand on my shoulder.

“That does not make up for it. You cannot go away with that so easy!” I yell and the next punch goes to his stomach.

He’s trying to catch his breath and coughs roughly. “I’m sorry, Cason.” His voice is shaky and disruptive. “I deserved this. But I didn’t know.”

“You broke the first rule on the code of brotherhood.” I grip his shirt and shout at his face, my nose adjacent his. “I thought you were my brother. How can someone do this to their brother?”

“I didn’t mean for it to be like this.”

“You clearly did not.” I’m angry, uncontrollable, spritz of spit spurt out among the enraged, ignitable yelling.

I shove him against the table, and tower him with my weight. I don’t think he’s gonna be able to withstand this series of punches I’m about to inundate his face with.

I’m like an untamed animal, hitting him with both fists on either sides of his face. I take turns on both sides. Spots on his skin and starting to degrade. Bloods is spurting out of his mouth. He cannot control his breathing anymore, since I’m not giving him time to catch his breath. I’m just keeping throwing punches at him. His nose is deformed. He’s probably gonna need surgery on that. His bottom lip is cracked up and bleeding, his jawline unbalanced.

“Stop it.” I hear a voice from behind me, screaming. It’s my P.A. “Cason, you’re hurting him.”

She’s crying. Why the hell is she crying for this motherfucker?

Next thing I know, the security guys come in and get me away from him. My mind is fogged, blood combusting through my veins.

What the fuck did I just do?
