Physical Connection (The Physical Series Book 4) by Sierra Hill (14)

Watching my boyfriend play with his ‘nephew’ Wyatt is the cutest damn thing I’ve ever seen.

That man of mine has the biggest heart of anyone I know, and he never ceases to amaze me. Every day for the past six months I’ve learned something new about him and he’s taught me more about myself than I could ever have imagined.

Eli running around the park chasing after Wyatt, wearing nothing but a pair of nylon basketball shorts – showing off his tanned skin and lean torso – has me practically melting.

Lusting over my boyfriend’s delectable body and trying to hide the boner that’s grown in my pants in a public park is a little uncomfortable and very inappropriate. Yet I can’t help myself. Although I’ve kissed and touched every inch on that magnificent body since that first night together, I still want more. Every single minute of the day, which makes it very inconvenient when we’re performing surgery together, let me tell you.

“Hey babe, what time is that function tonight?” Eli calls over to me, swinging a squealing little boy in the air over his head.

I’m stretched out on a blanket on the grass, wearing only a pair of shorts, myself, and plenty of sunscreen. I set down the book I’ve been absently trying to read and squint up at him.

“Eight p.m. Why?”

We’re attending a formal charity event for the hospital tonight to raise money for a new children’s wing in the building. I’ve been to tons of events like this in my adult life, but the next best thing to seeing Eli naked is seeing him work a room wearing a tux. Christ almighty, that man is so fucking handsome when he puts on that suit and bowtie and flashes his charming smile at all the ladies and gents in the place.

That’s exactly how he ended up charming my parents. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think it would go over very well the first time I introduced Eli to my mother and father. While I’ve always had a close relationship with them both, they aren’t exactly the type of people who would jump for joy to learn their only son is gay and is in love with a man.

But they surprised me. They were immediately enamored with Eli and embraced our relationship with open arms. I’m very lucky, considering that after getting to know Eli, he told me all about his troubled upbringing and abuse by his stepfather. It only made me love him more knowing how resilient and determined he is to live his life out and proud, despite what those he loved did to him.

As for me, I’ve never been happier. And my friendship with Sasha barely formed a bruise after the initial outburst. Once she was over the initial pain, Sasha was all for my relationship. She has brought Eli into our little circle of friends and I think she loves him more than she loves me. Only for the sheer fact that Eli will go shopping with her, where I drew a hardline years ago and told her ‘hell no.’

The work environment took a little more to finesse. When I informed my Chief of Surgery, she barely raised an eyebrow, but immediately involved the Human Relations staff to determine a better reporting structure. While I didn’t want to lose Eli from my surgical team because of his competence, I understood the necessity around the policies.

It took a month, but he was finally reassigned to Dr. Leanne Jenning’s team, and those two get along like two peas in a pod. I, however, was stuck with Nurse Mildred Lundberg who is a cross between Nurse Ratchet and an Eeyore stunt double, but definitely not as sweet and loveable. I’ve had to reclaim my patience on more than one occasion. But all in all, everything’s worked out and I get to return home every night to my ‘someone.’

Eli steps in front of me, casting a shadow across my body, blocking out the bright sun. Wyatt is running around behind him chasing after a butterfly and singing some song from a Disney movie. I scoot over and pat the blanket next to me, where Eli plops down with a worn-out sigh.

“I definitely need a nap later today. That boy has more energy than I know what to do with.”

I quirk an eyebrow and snicker, running my fingers down the slope of his shoulder and bicep.

“That’s exactly what I felt like last night after round two.”

Eli snorts. “What can I say? I have stamina.”

We’re on our sides facing one another and he leans into me, kissing me gently on the lips, a grin across his face.

A moan slips out of my mouth and I know if I don’t reel this in now, my shorts will be pitching a tent out on this lawn in no time.

“Well, Mr. Stamina, maybe a little afternoon delight will be in order after that nap later.”

“That’s why I love you so much. You always know what I need.”

His chest glistens with sweat, highlighting the smooth skin and dark, round nipples. I have a strong urge to swipe my tongue across the copper-penny sized discs and score my thumb nail down the center of his chest to the smattering of dark blond hair below his belly.

Sighing, I pull back because they’ll be plenty of time for that later. Right now, we need to corral a little boy and take him back to his mama’s place.

When Eli suggested that we babysit Wyatt every other Saturday morning to give Addie a break, I was a little uncertain of that time commitment. I’d also never spent much time around children, so I had no idea what to expect. So far it’s been a great experience and Wyatt is a super sweet kid.

It’s easy to see our future together someday down the road. Eli and I married with a couple of kids. He’s such a natural and I love him all the more for being so hands on with Wyatt. Eli will be an amazing dad someday.

Until then, we’re enjoying our new life together. It’s crazy to think that only a year ago, I was rebuilding my life after a rejected proposal from a woman, and now here I am, feeling utterly content and happily in love with the man who has connected all the pieces of my heart together and finally made me whole.
