Chapter Thirteen
Marynne
Amazement rippled through my mind as everything I knew about sex and men turned over. This man showed me something incredible, and asked for nothing in return, in spite of his obvious need. I lay there with my head pillowed on his chest, trying to process it all.
Then the anger arrived. How could Grandmother lie to me about something so beautiful? Was she really that hateful? I didn't know why I even asked, when I already knew the answer. Yes, she was that hateful. Her every interaction with me had been guided by some sort of spite, or other negative emotion. I couldn't even bring myself to ask why. It didn't matter. She had poisoned my mind. How many other things had I missed because she made me fear them? She took every opportunity to remind me of the results of my poor decision making skills.
I thought about her resistance to my driving, or learning to cook, or really learning anything truly useful. Thinking back, it looked as if she wanted to keep me from enjoying any of the things that made life worth living.
