Sam
Once they drove away, I went back inside, my arms aching to hold Marynne again. I found her on the couch, legs folded under, watching a movie. Faint disappointment tried to worm its way into my brain, but I pushed it away. Cuddling on the couch and watching a movie together was perfect if that's what she wanted to do.
I sat down and kicked off my boots. "What are we watching?"
She scooted close, tucking herself in against my side. "Twilight."
I searched my memory and came up empty. "What's it about?"
She gazed up at me in something like shock. "It's only the most romantic vampire movie ever made. I can't believe you haven't heard of it."
"Vampires?" That caught my interest. "I like horror movies."

The concept of sparkling vampires sort of blew circuits in my brain, but whatever. It didn't matter as long as I got to sit with Marynne and hold her while she watched. Within the first ten minutes of the movie, I realized it was a teen angst kind of thing and completely tuned it out. Instead, I watched Marynne, detailing the rise and fall of her chest with every breath. The way her lips parted at some particularly sappy line. The way tears sparkled in her eyes when something she considered romantic, or sweet, or sad, happened on the screen.

She turned to me. "Well? Did you like it?"
"Uh, sure. We'll have to watch it again sometime." Later. Much, much later.

"It's the second in the saga, and really good, too." She gave me the look she had quickly learned could get her anything from me.
"Uh, I guess. How long is it?" I made a show of checking my watch. "It's getting a little late, though. Maybe we should save it for tomorrow night? I don't want to fall asleep halfway through." I held my breath, waiting for her reply.
"Oh. Of course." Disappointment turned her lips down a little. "I was enjoying cuddling with you. I didn't realize how late it was."
Well, shit. "No, you know what? I’m not even that tired. I'm good for another one." Shoot me now.
"Really!" She squealed and jumped up to change the DVD. "You won't regret it." Finished, she paused the movie. "I'm going to change into something a little more comfortable. Jeans weren't made for cuddling." She disappeared down the hall, leaving me to curse my luck. Of all the nights she could have picked for some kind of movie marathon, it had to be this one. She smiled up at me. "I can't believe you sat through that whole movie and kept your hands mostly to yourself. I kept waiting for you to get tired of waiting."
The realization dawned. "You're going to pay for that, woman." I snagged her in my arms.

I drew back so I could see her face. "Are you sure? I didn't tell you I love you to push you." The sudden thought that she might think that was the only reason I said it curled my stomach with nausea.
Her fingers were steady at the back of my neck as she drew me down again. "I'm sure. I know that's not why you said it. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being nervous, but I trust you. All these weeks, you've shown nothing but patience and gentleness. I know you won't hurt me. And just so you know, I didn't say I love you just for sex, either." Her lips curved into a smile against mine. "Now shut up and kiss me."
Her wish was my command. I kissed her as I guided her to my bed, discarding clothes along the way.
