Reign Over Me (The Covenant Book 1) by Gwendolyn Casey (31)

Chapter Thirty-Four

Rem

“Is our guest settled in?” I asked Jordan on my way into the clubhouse. We’d been back in town a couple hours, but I’d had some errands to run after we dropped off the package.

“He is ready when you are,” Jordan said.

“Twenty-three hundred?”

“Sounds good.”

He went on his way toward the warehouse, and I headed inside the clubhouse.

Amy spotted me first when I came into the clubroom. “Hey, there.” She smiled and walked toward me.

“Hey,” I nodded. “Where’s my girl?”

Amy stopped mid step and then looked around. “Um, I think she is in the kitchen.”

“Thanks.”

Isabel was facing the counter with her headphones on. I snuck up on her and leaned in to hear the song she was singing. I think it was “My Old Man” by Joni Mitchell. I stood for a few moments to listen to her sing. She wasn’t bad. Her voice was light and sweet.

When the song ended, I pulled her back against me quickly. She let out a little scream and tore her headphones out.

“Jesus, Rem!”

I didn’t give her a chance to talk any more. I put my mouth on hers and kissed her with all the pent-up frustration I’d felt the last few days. We accomplished our mission, but this type of work was always stressful. I missed her so much that my dick was solid steel. I grabbed her ass and pulled her against me, letting her feel the hardness.

She gasped into my mouth. “Take me upstairs, Rem.”

I lifted her so her legs wrapped around my middle, and I carried her to the stairs, making out the whole time. There were catcalls and “fucking honeymooners” on our way, but nothing could distract me from getting inside my woman as soon as possible.

We spent the next six hours in bed, making love and talking. Well, she did most of the talking. She told me about all the things that happened while I was away including her conversation with Amy about the future. I’d have to remember to mention that to Greyson.

She also asked if we could go to the Potato Festival this weekend.

“That is for families with kids,” I said.

“What? Are you saying you’ve never gone?”

“Why would I? It’s a carnival with kiddy ride and games.”

“So you’re too mature for popping balloons with darts?” she asked, a flirty little smile on her face.

“Yep.” I smirked.

“I heard there is a street dance with a band. Maybe we’ll get to slow dance. Can we go please?” She said, making her lips into a sexy little pout.

When I didn’t say anything she rolled onto her back. “I suppose I’ll have to go with Duncan then.”

I sat up and looked down at her. “What?”

“He invited me a few days ago, but I assured him that you would want to take me to the festival.” She bit her lip to hide the smile.

Little vixen. After that, Isabel experienced my jealous side. She wouldn’t be able to sit for a few days, I’m sure. Only after she swore never to try to make me jealous again, did I agree to take her to the festival. It might be fun.

I left Isabel around midnight. I let her pass out after our third fuck. Her eyes didn’t open after her orgasm, which was my indication that she was tapped.

I made my way to the warehouse and found Jordan waiting for me outside. “What took you so long?” he grumbled.

“Can’t a man say hi to his woman?”

“And that takes six hours?”

“Yeah, to do it properly.” I smirked as I opened the door and let him go first.

We headed toward the back where everything had been set up before we got there. Walls of plastic hung down to create a corner room. Even the floor had a plastic drop sheet. In the center was an unconscious man tied to a chair.

I was hoping it wouldn’t be too messy.

The man was shirtless and barefoot, but we left him his jeans. Being naked might make the person feel more vulnerable, but I honestly didn’t like to strip them down. It made me feel like Dexter.

“Let’s get started,” I said.

Jordan took a bucket of water and splashed the man. He came awake with a deep inhale and then coughing.

“Breaker,” I said.

He looked up at me through his wet lashes. “What the fuck?” He started struggling against the ropes but gave up quickly.

“Shit,” he said, looking resigned and depressed. This was not the man I remembered. He was always ugly, but now he was chubby and balding. I was sure hiding like a coward came with a lot of stress.

“You knew this day was coming, Breaker.” Every Ace knew that there is no escape from justice when you turn on the club. “Here is the deal. You answer all my questions and I’ll make it quick. You don’t answer them, you’ll go to the grave missing some parts.”

Pure hatred poured out of Breaker’s eyes. “Let me guess, you want to know about your daddy the rat.”

He was trying to provoke me. He didn’t know that I’d accepted the truth about my father a long time ago. “Is he alive?” I asked.

“Last I heard, but that was over a decade ago.” Breaker looked around, no doubt looking for his means of escape.

“Did he go into witness protection, too?”

He gave me a surprised look. Then he smiled. “You really have no idea who Steven Jenkins was, do you?”

I wasn’t sure if this was another tactic to rile me or not so I played along. “Why don’t you tell me who he was?”

“He was a Fed.”

That gave me pause. That was not possible. I glanced at Jordan, who had the same confused look on his face.

“You idiots. He was working the club from the very beginning. He used your mother to get into the club.”

“What are you talking about? He grew up here with Greyson and the others. They knew him. There was no way he was a Fed.”

“So Greyson never told you about the seven years no one heard from him. Then he shows up one day and has the hugest hard-on for your mother. Convenient.” He sniffed, still trying to get the water out of his nose.

I didn’t know what to say. Could it be true? My grandfather had been the VP when my parents first got together. So he used her and got her pregnant just to cement his place within the Aces? Feds don’t go that far. They had rules that forbade sex and drug use while undercover.

“If that is true, how did you get involved?”

“I found out he was a Fed right after you were born. By then, he had enough evidence to have me arrested and sent away for long time. So he gave me two options.”

My anger rose up, and I growled. “So you betrayed the Aces to save your own skin.”

Breaker didn’t say anything, but he had enough sense to look ashamed.

If he was telling the truth, I’d underestimated my father’s treachery. “You are going to tell us everything you know. Or I’m going to get the pliers.”
