Roosted (Moto X Book 1) by Brooke May (23)

She vanished; like an apparition who passes through the halls of the building blindsides me with sex in my office, and then disappears. Unprotected sex, might I add.

Yeah, you caught it, didn’t you?

Thanks for fucking telling me!

Sorry, I didn’t mean to yell. I’ve never had unprotected sex before. I never wanted to bring a child into this world, at least the world I live in. I’m not suited to be a dad. I’m too selfish. I won’t give up the things I love to care for someone else. Yes, I know, I’m a wanker, but at least, I’m honest. Kids are not for me.

But that’s beside the point at the moment because I can’t imagine a woman like Paige not protecting herself with some form of birth control. My main concern while I stare down at my dick is if she is clean or not. It’s not like we took a second to discuss it. Fucking hell, I didn’t even know I went in bare till after she left me.

I have been tested twice in my life. The first time was after I slept with an older woman in high school—turned out she was pretty loose and recommended I get tested even though I was wrapped. The second time was right after the incident with Candy. With a name like that and with a loose pussy like hers, I knew I’d better get tested.

Both times came back clean, but it still makes me wonder.

What is Paige’s past?

If it is anything like Len has hinted to, I can only assume she’s clean.

“What the fuck?” Quietly shouting to myself in the otherwise silent office, I scrub my face and begin to pull out all the shit I need to start my day. Since I’ve met the twins, I feel as though I’ve been thrown into a strange twilight zone where everything is finally going good for me.

It makes me feel funny. After all the shit I’ve been through, the light is finally coming back to me.

Smelling of sex, I don’t bother to wash my hands as I pick up my pencil and get to work. I don’t focus on the fact Paige left my office practically naked and only covered by my jacket. A grin plays across my face, and my glasses lift with my ears as my grin morphs into a smile. My jacket is big enough to be a short dress on her.

Ideally, I hope she wears it like that sometime soon.

My work consumes me and all other thoughts outside numbers and statistics fall away. I get all the files I’ve been working on done and sorted, talk things over with the others about what they need to be working on and the break room shit, and then I finally take my lunch break.

Grabbing my food, I head down to the garages. I’ve got sex on my mind on the way down and when entering the motocross garage. Some of the mechanics are already sitting out at the picnic table outside the big doors, so I make my way over to them and take a seat at the end of one bench.

I nod to the ones sitting and start to dig into my own lunch. I learned yesterday at lunch that Taylor’s foster dad, Kurt, is one of Parker’s mechanics. I haven’t seen much of him. I’ve only met him briefly in passing.

“I thought all of you would be busy?” I take a bite of my burrito.

“We still get our lunches. Just because we are helping pack the twins up to get on the road tonight doesn’t mean we can’t eat.”

“I see.” The twins are leaving tonight for Nevada. Paige has two races this weekend, and Parker is in a freestyle competition.

Let me tell you something about most men. We can eat in silence as a group and don’t feel weird about it. Sure, I could eat in the break room or in my office just fine, but I like coming down here and letting everything about being down in this place consume my senses.

The smell of oil, fuel, and grease; the taste all those bring to my mouth as I inhale them. And the sounds of all the tools working, the metal of toolbox drawers opening and closing, and the rev of the engines; the vibes I can feel ooze their way into my body with just a single step into the large area.

I don’t care if we don’t talk while we eat; I enjoy this right here. But at the same time, while I stuff my face, I can’t help but listen to the conversation already taking place.

“I can’t imagine how those two were able to get where they are in the world when they started with absolutely nothing.”

“It sure wasn’t any inheritance money from their folks when they died. Their old man … I heard rumors he was nothing but a drunk.”

“And a murderer.”

Ice instantly flows through my veins. I’ve wondered about their family life. Paige changed the subject when I asked her, and she never came out to say anything; she just changed the subject. Parker would tell me something if I was to ask, but I’m not going to. After yesterday, I know he has a functioning mind in his head, after all.

If their dad was a murderer, who did he murder? Did the twins witness it? What else could he have done to the two of them? Both are so different, yet both are closed off to the rest of the world in their own way. Len told me I was the first outsider brought to the twins’ house. It makes me question what happened to them.

“Foster care didn’t treat them much better than he did.”

“I’ve always wondered if that’s why they are so detached and strange when it comes to relationships.” It’s almost like they don’t know I’m sitting here. I’m a big guy; you can’t miss my giant arse.

“I heard Paige took the brunt of—”

“Don’t you guys have better things to do than gossip like a bunch of teenage girls?” Len takes an empty seat across from me, dropping her own lunch and glaring at the guys.

“Sorry,” they all mumble in unison and go back to their food silently as Len’s hazel and gray eyes fix on me.

“Ignore the gossip of the girls. It’s best if you do.” Her head drops; the tiny blond stubble of the side of her head glistens in the sun while her Mohawk falls in her face. “Paige is taken with you; it’s never happened before, but I’m glad it has. I’ve warned you, and Axle, you’re a nice guy; I don’t want to see either of you hurt.” Her eyes meet mine again. Her nose ring joins in, glistening in the sun like a pink star.

“I won’t let it happen.”

“I’m sure you won’t, but Paige is unpredictable. Take care of her while she lets you. Don’t push her; she’ll leave if you do. That’s what she does.” A sad smile ghosts across her face.

I don’t care how many men are around; my dad always told my mum exactly how she made him feel. He is a tough, stern man who loves his wife. I’m starting to feel stronger emotions for Paige than just lust.

“I feel a pull to her.”

“I’m sure you do.” Len’s hair shakes with her head. “Everyone feels a pull to her.” She is looking in my direction but past me as if lost somewhere far away.

“You okay?” I tilt my head, getting in her line of sight.

Blinking, Len’s focus returns and the forlorn look disappears. “We are leaving in an hour, so come back down then and wish the twins luck; it might give Paige a little push in the right direction.”

I thought they were leaving tonight?

“Of winning her races?”

“Of finally allowing herself to have her own happiness.” Len stands, grabbing the lunch she barely ate, and leaves. No one talks; no more gossip or rumors about Paige or Parker, no small talk about if their bikes are ready for the weekend. Just nothing.

I return to my office, but I’m unable to get any real work done.

And a murderer.

What the flying fuck did Paige and Parker endure as children?

Instead of working, I stand at my wall of windows and watch as the bikes are loaded along with any other equipment they will need for the weekend. The semi the twins share for their bikes is like a giant mobile bumblebee with black and yellow stripes down the sides. I would have thought it would have been black and white with red letters for the company logo. Parker must have had something to do with the splash of color.

Parker is busy helping load with his sister, Len, and some of the crew. I could be getting peaceful work done since he isn’t up here bugging the shit out of me but I can’t focus long enough to be productive.

At a quarter till, I leave my office once more for the motocross garage and nearly miss them. The garage looks almost like a ghost town with one or two of their other bikes, but no one is around. All are outside making sure everything is ready to go.

Stepping into the Utah heat, I nearly slam into a shorter, supple body. “In a rush to see me?” I tease, pulling Paige closer to me. Her back to my front, I bend to her ear, pushing her hair out of the way. “I’m glad to see you wore actual clothes for the rest of the day.”

“Well, my corset kind of was compromised this morning.” I hear the smirk rather than see it. “Someone fucked me so hard the clasp busted open.”

May I do a happy dance?

That’s a first for me. I’ve ripped plenty of panties off before, but breaking a corset is a new one.

“I’m keeping the jacket, by the way.” Finally, she tilts her head, and her dark locks go to the side as she looks up at me. Her bangs do well to cover most of her eyes, but not enough to hide her flair of excitement from me.

“I have plenty.” I shrug and release her, turning her with a grace my mum would be proud of, then pull her back against me. “Good luck this weekend.” With my index finger, I urge her chin up, but I still have to bend my knees to kiss her lips. It is chaste and quick.

“Aren’t you sweet?” Her tattooed hand pats me on the side of the face and she steps away from my hold. “But when you are as good as I am, luck isn’t even a factor.”

“Paige! We need to hit the road,” Parker yells at her from the passenger seat of the black Chevy Duramax.

“I’m coming,” she shouts back. Focusing back on me, she offers me a side grin. “Don’t have too much fun without me this weekend.” She takes a few steps backward before turning and taking confident strides to the truck.

When the convoy is loaded, Paige, Parker, and Len wave from the truck and pull out in front of the semi. I wave back and stay there until they are long out of the gates of the complex.

I make my way back up to my office and get back to work. When my day is done, I pull my keys out and find a present waiting for me.

I pull out a black lacy thong; it looks as though it was stuffed in the back where my keys slid to. They look like the match to Paige’s corset from this morning. As I regard them, holding them out to get a full view, my phone chimes.

Paige: They were wet, I came in them before you got to your office. Enjoy. Jerk off in them for me?
