Shattered: Paranormal Vampire Romance (Immortal Love Series Book 4) by Anna Santos (34)

Chapter THIRTY-THREE

One month from now

Beth

The green light was on when I stepped inside the waiting room of Dr. Kent’s office. I was slightly delayed for our appointment, but she wouldn’t mind. No one else was there. I was her last patient that day ever since we swapped the schedule, so I could help Eric and Dulce with the restoration of our dancing academy. I was rather excited about the last couple of weeks. It was with ease that I entered the office only to freeze with the scent that reached my nostrils. Blood.

My heart drummed inside my ribcage, and I could barely hear my thoughts with the panic that took over me. The office was dark, and I thought about running when I heard a sob and realized that Dr. Kent wasn’t dead.

Breathing deep, I straightened my shoulders and walked inside. He was seated in the doctor’s chair, his back to me. Focusing my vision in the room, I saw the therapist’s body against the wall. Dr. Kent was holding her shoulder with tears in her eyes. Her hair, always perfectly combed, was all over the place and her eyes were puffy.

I walked to the chaise lounge and sat. My hands were shaking, and I pressed my fingers against the leather to still my fears.

The chair swirled around, and Alaric smirked at me with crazy eyes. He looked pale and smaller than I remembered.

“Beth, how kind of you to join us. Dr. Kent doesn’t want to talk to me anymore. Can you believe this?”

I clenched my jaw and crossed my legs. Fixing my hair behind my ears, I smiled. “Alaric.”

He leaned over the table. The knife in his right hand still had blood. “Are you happy to see me, darling?”

“What took you so long to find me?”

His head tilted to the right and he lost his smile. “Were you waiting for me?”

“My beloved sister tried to kill me. Do you know that?”

“I do. That bitch turned on me and locked me up.”

“Yes, she didn’t want us together. She was jealous.”

He got up. “I’ll take care of her next.”

I frowned. “She’s not with you?”

He ignored my question. “I saw you with my brother.”

“Eric?”

He walked to me. “What other brother do I got that is still alive?”

I faked my best smile. “Are you jealous?”

“I’m going to rip his heart out of his chest for looking at you the way he does.”

“How does he look at me?”

He yelled close to my face. “You are mine! Only mine! I’m not going to let him steal you from me.”

I raised my hand to touch his arm since the knife was dangerously close. “You are here now. No one is going to steal me from you. I’ve been waiting. I knew you would find me.”

“I saw you kissing him.”

My voice became sober. “I did everything I had to do to survive so I could see you again. Let’s not forget that you were the one who abandoned me behind.”

“I didn’t leave you behind, that bitch…”

Getting up, I grabbed his arm. “You found me. You’ve come for me, didn’t you? Then we can leave.”

He looked at me, and I stopped myself from gulping. If I did everything right, he would let Dr. Kent live, and I had a chance of being found in time.

“Are you in love with Eric? Are you mates?”

My lips stretched into a fake smile. “Of course not. I only love you. Let’s go before someone finds out you are here.”

Alaric pulled his arm from my grip and looked at the therapist. “I need to kill her first.”

“No. We don’t have time.”

He smirked. “Better, you need to kill her yourself.”

I lost my breath and looked at Dr. Kent, holding her sobs with a painful expression. Tears ran down her cheeks. She was a hybrid. Alaric shouldn’t know that. Her wound would heal, and she could call for help and tell Eric what was going on.

I looked at Alaric. “I’m not hungry. Just leave her be.”

He grinned with cold eyes. “There are other ways to kill someone.”

Before he did anything else or doubted me, I sped to Dr. Kent, grabbed her head, and snapped it while looking deeply into her eyes. I stopped in front of Alaric moments later.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

He nodded in approval. “Good girl.” He stroke my cheek. Then he grabbed my purse and threw it on the floor. “You won’t need this where we are going. Come.” He grabbed my arm and dragged me out of there.

Alaric could be crazy, but he wasn’t stupid. I hoped I could take my cell phone with me. Eric could track me like that, but that ship had sailed. My only hope was Dr. Kent once she came back to life.
