I stood in Dylan’s room, staring at her as she spoke. “You’re pregnant! This is great…”
She rushed out of the bedroom before I could tell her that I hadn’t told Paul my suspicion.
“OH MY GOD!!!” She grabbed Jensen, who was smiling.
“What? Guys, please,” Paul turned towards me, “what’s going on Carly.”
I looked down at the floor, unable to face him, “Well, we know why I didn’t get sick. My wolf was protecting me during the shift… rather she was protecting the baby.”
“That’s great… wait,” Paul stammered and looked at me wide-eyed, “did you say baby?”
“Yes… Paul, I’m pregnant.”
“I can’t believe this! Me and my best friend are going to have babies together… this is fucking awesome. Jensen call the pack. This is cause for another celebration.”
Paul stood there, not saying anything. His silence was deafening. Inside I was freaking out, was he mad, disappointed? We weren’t even married, hell we’d only just gotten engaged or together for that matter.
“Paul, say something. Please,” folding my arms across my chest, “I didn’t mean for this to happen. I’m sorry.”
He shook himself from his trance, pulling me into his arms, “Sorry? For what, you’ve just made me the happiest man alive. Marry me.”
I couldn’t stifle the giggle, “I already said yes silly wolf.”
“No Carly… Marry me today – right now. I don’t want to wait.”
“Are you serious?”
“Unless you need the big wedding, yes. Dead serious. I don’t need all that stuff, I just need you,” he kissed me hard.
“Yes… Dylan,” I pulled out of his hug, turning towards Carly, “You think Haven would marry us tonight?”
“I’ll go call him. I don’t see why he’d say no.”
Dylan disappeared into the kitchen, coming back pretty quickly, “He said yes. In fact, he will be home in two hours. I already called the entire pack, they’ll be here too! This is so exciting. You’re having a baby… and getting married.”
Dylan pulled me into a hug, sobbing into my shoulder. Her happiness was evident, and I couldn’t hold in my tears. I was having a baby with my best friend. I peeked at Paul, who was watching us, he smiled at me. The love he felt radiated through the bond, the warmth filling me up on the inside.
Dylan released me, “Ok, let's go find something for you to wear.”
She dragged me away from the guys, Paul waving at me as I was pulled into her room again.
“I have the perfect dress.” She pulled a white flowy gown from her closet. It was informal, but perfect for the occasion.
“Thanks – this will look great. Dylan,” I looked at her with tear filled eyes, “Do you think he’s really ok with all this?”
“Carly – the way that man looks at you is a crime. I am pretty sure you’ve made him the happiest wolf in the world… well next to Jensen,” she placed her hand on my shoulder, “Now, let's get this show on the road. Haven will be here soon.”
We spent the next couple of hours getting ready. She did my hair and helped me dress. Placing my hand on my belly, I smiled, I couldn’t believe I was going to be a mom. And the timing couldn’t be any better. I’d be delivering right after graduation.
“Haven’s here. You ready.”
“Yes.”
I walked out of the bedroom, meeting Kai and Roxy in the kitchen. They smiled, hugging me as we all walked outside.
“I can’t believe you’re getting married and you’re pregnant! It must be something in the water around here…” Kai chuckled.
“Yep – you may want to stick to bottled.”
As we walked around to the back of the house, my breath was stolen from me. The backyard had been transformed into something from a fairy tale. The gazebo had been covered in red and pink flowers, and everyone was seated on benches waiting for me.
“How?” I turned to Dylan.
“I can’t do magic right now, but they can.” She turned pointing towards Haven, Roxy and Stephanie.
“Wow – you guys. I didn’t need all this. But thank you.”
Paul stood inside the gazebo, waiting for me. He was dressed in a pair of black slacks and a loose white button up. He looked delicious. I walked with Dylan, as she handed me off to him, “You better take care of my best friend. I’d hate to set your ass on fire again,” she winked as she walked into the waiting arms of Jensen.
This would be the second wedding held in this spot. It wasn’t too long ago that Haven himself, married Tessa. I glanced around at my friends, no… my family, and smiled. Paul took my hands in his as Haven spoke. We exchanged vows, slipping the rings Jensen had picked up, on each other’s hands. Symbolizing forever. My wolf jumped for joy, whining and howling as I kissed my husband. He pulled me tight, trailing kisses down my neck.
“I love you.”
I didn’t want to open my eyes, I was afraid it was all a dream. His warm breath against my neck willed me to crack them open. His beautiful eyes drew me in, capturing my heart for all eternity. This man was my forever.
“I love you too.”
