“Ok – Spill.” Dylan folded her arms over her chest.
“What?” playing coy, she raised an eyebrow at me, “Fine. I came home from my awful date last night and he was here in the kitchen. I had decided that I was just going to tell him point blank how I felt. If he rejected me then I was going to give Dan a real chance.”
“And…”
“Well, I didn’t have to tell him. He made it very clear that he was foolish and wanted me. In fact, he made it clear four times.”
“HOLY SHIT! Are you serious?”
“Yes… and OH. MY. GOD… it was amazing.”
“You’re still glowing… so, does this mean you two are a thing?”
“Dylan, you know how this works. He told me I was his destined mate – that means forever.”
“And is that what you want?”
“More than air.”
“Did he claim you as his?”
“We had sex… I thought I made that clear.”
“No – Carly did he bite you? To claim you as his, a wolfen must bite you.”
“No… no, he didn’t. Do you think that’s because he isn’t sure he wants me?” I wrapped my arms around my waist.
“Of course not. It’s not something a wolfen does lightly. Plus, there are things you have to discuss. You know my grandfather never fully claimed my grandmother.”
“What? How is that possible and why not?”
“Well, sex couples you together. But the bite – well it would change you, Carly.”
“Change me? What do you mean?”
Sighing, “Carly, are you prepared to be one of us? A wolfen.”
I sat stunned. I knew I wanted Paul, but to become a shifter – I wasn’t sure. “I don’t know. Is that why he didn’t bite me?”
“Probably. He was worried you would ruin your life if you mated like that. Did you use protection when you had sex? It’s dangerous for humans to have unprotected sex with a wolfen unless she harbors magic or is willing to change.”
I sat, not wanting to tell her, “Yes, of course.”
She stared at me, “You’re lying. Tell me the truth, Carly…”
“Fine… no, we didn’t use protection. So, what – I am on the pill.”
“Damn it, Carly – ugg I’m going to kill Paul. He knows human contraception doesn’t work.”
“It’s fine Dylan. You’re overreacting. I’m not ovulating, so relax.”
“Carly, do you think you would let him change you?”
I sat thinking about my life before Paul. My parents had basically forgotten my existence, and Dylan was the only family I had. Becoming like her was frightening, but at the same time, it made sense. It would allow me to live a long life with her – and Paul.
“Yeah – I think I would. You’re the only family I have now – and I want a long life with Paul.”
“Well, you’ll need to talk to him. If I know Paul, he won’t bring it up out of some sense of chivalry. He thinks he’s protecting you.”
“Fine, I’ll talk to him about it. Tell me something,” I shifted in my chair, “Is being bitten by your destined mate the only way to be changed?”
“No, any wolfen can force the change with a bite during sex. But don’t get any ideas, Paul would likely kill any wolfen that bit you or touched you like that.”
“I wouldn’t want anyone else like that or their mouth on me anyway. Alright, now that’s out of the way, let’s talk wedding.”
“I want to get married next weekend.”
“WHAT? Are you serious Dylan?”
“Yes… very.”
“Why? The wedding is only four weeks away. Why push it up like that?”
“Well… I need to.”
“Need to? What possible reason could you have to rush your wedding?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“I mean, moving the wedding up that quick will be difficult… wait – did you just say you’re pregnant?”
“Yep – about 6 weeks.”
I jump up, rushing to pull her into a hug, “Does Jensen know?”
“I think he suspects something, but I haven’t told him. I want it to be a surprise present at the reception,” she pulled out of my embrace, “so, do you think you can make it happen?”
‘You bet your ass I can.”
We sat, discussing what we could eliminate to make next weekend happen. As we were mulling over flowers, Haven, Dylan’s uncle walked in.
“Hello ladies, what are you doing?”
“Hey Haven,” Dylan stood, hugging her uncle, “we’re trying to see what we can keep and what we need to get rid of, so we can have the wedding next weekend.”
Haven looked her over, a smile forming on his lips, “You’re pregnant.”
“What? How’d you know?”
“I can sense the baby’s magic – congratulations.”
“What are we congratulating?” Jensen walked in, Paul close behind him.
“Your nuptials next weekend.”
“Wait… next weekend? Dylan, what’s he talking about?”
“Jensen,” Dylan took his hands in hers, “I don’t want to wait another minute. Carly says we can pull it off – is that ok?”
“For you, I’d get married right now.”
I stood watching their exchange, envious of what they had. I was so lost in my daydream I didn’t feel Paul step behind me.
“What are you thinking about?”
His warm breath against my ear, caused the heat to pool between my legs. He inhaled, growling as his grip tightened.
“That I want what they have.”
“In due time… in due time. Now, how about we go grab dinner, before I eat you right here.”
“Ok, you two – can you save that for the bedroom?” Jensen giggled, “Haven, you, Tessa and Hope can join us. We’re just going to grab some dinner in town.”
“Thanks, but I just want to spend some time with my gals alone. Maybe next time.”
“Alright – tell Tessa and hope we said hello.” Haven waved as he walked out of the room.
“Well, let's go. I’m starved.” Jensen walked out, pulling Dylan with him.
Paul turned, planting a heated kiss on my mouth, “Don’t worry – I plan to taste you later.”
Giggling, we walked out of the house together, hand in hand. It was a dream come true. Paul was finally mine – and I was his.
