By the time we all pile back on the plane to go back home Sunday morning, I’m exhausted. I take advantage of the two-hour flight and pass out on Rhys’ shoulder. After all, it is his fault that I got very little sleep last night.
When we land back in Atlanta, he buys me a coffee, and we’re back to our normal selves. He walks me to my gate and kisses me goodbye before heading to his.
“Skype me when you get home, so I can see Reid, please.” He kisses me again.
“I will. Love you.”
“Love you too. I’ll see you next weekend.”
I wave over my shoulder at him one last time before I disappear out of sight.
When I get back home, and Crystal has left, I keep my promise and call Rhys.
I’m sitting in the middle of my bed with Reid in my lap when Rhys’ face fills the screen.
“There’s my two-favorite people!”
“Da!” Reid squeals.
“Reid!” he grins. “I miss you, dude. We need to hire some movers to pack up you and Mommy and bring you both to me.”
“Rhys,” I roll my eyes. “Stop bulldozing me. I’m not hiring movers, and neither are you. I’ll be packing up my own stuff, and Zoey’s going to help too.”
“Good, then I’ll recruit Smitty.”
“You do realize, the two of them together may be less than productive.”
He laughs, and Reid yells some gibberish. “I guess he agrees.”
“Too bad we can’t put him to work,” I tickle Reid’s tummy, making him laugh. “Look at those muscles, he could carry some boxes,” I lift his little arms up. “You don’t have to work tonight, do you? I didn’t even think to ask you before we left.”
“Nope. Tomorrow night. I’ll probably stay up half the night playing Xbox, so I can sleep tomorrow and get back on schedule.”
“Sounds like a blast. We, are going to sleep. So, don’t be calling me at 2am. I think I’m going to spend tomorrow doing absolutely nothing too. I can be an adult on Tuesday. I’m anxious to see these pictures from Selena too.”
Rhys doesn’t say anything to that, but I don’t miss the way his jaw ticks.
“What’s that all about? You are the one who talked me into it.”
“I didn’t say a word.”
“Okay,” I sigh and leave it alone. “I’m going to shower all those dirty plane germs off. Call me tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I love you both.”
“Say, we love you too Dada. Blow Daddy kisses.”
“Da da da da.” Reid babbles as he blows a kiss at the screen before I disconnect the call.
