“Great night tonight,” I say as my sous chef shrugs into his woollen coat and winds a tartan scarf around his throat.

“Best we’ve had so far,” Ru replies. Scratching at the thick, dark stubble on his jaw he grins. “If we keep this up, once it gets warmer, you won’t be able to seat everyone.”

“I don’t know.” I glance around the immaculate kitchen, giving it a final inspection. “It’s not like Los Angeles.”

“It’s not a teeny tiny town located in the middle of nowhere either.” Ru reaches for the door handle, but gets distracted by his phone pinging. He drags it out and fiddles with the screen. “We had diners in from the surrounding towns tonight as well. In summer that will likely increase.”

“Okay, okay.” I smirk. Ru’s always right about this stuff, which is why I had to have him in my kitchen. If he had an ounce of ambition the guy would put us all to shame. The fact that he doesn’t, and instead would rather put his effort into Sweets is a blessing. “So what do you suggest?”

“Marco’s such a dirty bastard,” Ru says, stabbing repeatedly at the volume button on his phone. “And he has no regard for my personal preferences.”
