chapter Fourty-Two

Up To Something

LaSalle

A month later…

“Bobby, why are you telling me shit I don’t care about? I said that’s the house she wants. Get it under contract and have Ollie and his crew on the site making the adjustments I need.

“I’ll pay the damn extra money. I want this done,” I growl at my brother.

Tasha and I have been home for a month, since our honeymoon. I rarely get to see my wife or children. I’ve been knee deep in flipping shit upside down.

Make no mistakes. I’ve made sure that these motherfuckers feel me. Uri, Luca, Logan, Brooklyn, we’ve all been busy. Misha has too, but something sent him running back to Russia like he had a flame up his ass.

Misha told me he was leaving after the wedding, but after the attack that ended with his man killed, he stayed behind to be close for my children and parents. I will never be able to repay him for doing so. It gave me peace of mind while I spent time with my wife.

Yesterday, I finally had time to spend with Tasha to house hunt and she found a house she fell in love with. The only problem, I need a few add-ons that I have at the current house. The kind of add-ons you don’t want anyone to know about.

“Sam, are you thinking straight. I don’t think you should do this now,” Bobby sighs.

I glare at my brother. “I’m not worried about neighbors. There are plenty of acres between us,” I press my lips. I know what really has Bobby concerned. “So what Ollie and his crew come at a price. I want to start the moving process for the kids, just do it.”

I know my brother hates this. I also know I’ve offered a price Bobby is not happy with. I did it to get the current owners out sooner. It’s what needs to be done.

It’s my money. I need shit to happen. My baby’s face lit up like a Christmas tree when we walked through that house. She had it before she opened her mouth to say she wanted it.

“If you want to waste money, then fine. Remember I told you, you have other options,” Bobby sighs.

“Other options that could cost me the house,” I grunt.

“Will you just do it,” Marcus sighs. “Ollie is an asshole. He is going to charge out the ass for whatever Sam needs, but he’s the best. I agree with Sam, waiting for all the hoops you want to jump through will cost more in the end.”

“Fine,” Bobby huffs and gets to work on what I asked for in the first place.

Marcus furrows his brows at his phone, then looks up at me. “This is the fourth time this week Rita has messaged me that she’s going to Val’s,” he mutters to himself.

I tilt my head at him. Tasha, mentioned going over there again this morning, but I thought little of it. Val and Tasha have become tight.

However, we all know Marcus and Rita are tapped into each other like homing devices. If he spies out something wrong, we all listen in. I narrow my eyes and think. Tasha has been at Uri’s place every day this week.

Bobby stops what he’s doing as well. “Oh, Boy, they’re up to something. Paige and Pam have been meeting at my house to go over there together since Monday,” Bobby groans.

“Whose birthday is coming? Anniversary? Anything to tell me my wife is not up to something with Morte Nera,” I growl.

Nothing, I got nothing,” Marcus shakes his head.

“Oh, Boy,” Bobby huffs. “I’ll call Nate.”

Tasha

“How are you my sister?” Val giggles and shakes her head at Shannon, as we all sit around Val’s living room.

“Oh, shut up,” Shannon pouts. “If you’re my sister, aren’t you supposed to help me?”

“Nope, I tried. You’re Tasha’s special project now,” Val laughs.

“I don’t like the way you say special,” Shannon says giving Val the stink eye.

Val bursts into laughter, falling over into Pam. We are all stifling our laughter at this point. My phone buzzes in my lap and I pick it up to check it. When I see it’s LaSalle, I smirk and place my wine glass down on the table.

“Hey, you,” I answer.

“Are you having a good time,” LaSalle croons.

“Yeah, I am,” I say genuinely.

“Good, so what are you ladies up to?”

“Val and I are sipping some wine and talking,” I say and bite my lip. I don’t like LaSalle’s tone. He sounds like he’s fishing, so I add. “Some of the other girls stopped by, so we’re having girl talk.”

“Mmm, okay, I’ll be home in a few. I want to have dinner with you and the kids,” LaSalle says nonchalantly.

“Okay, I’ll call for a car,” I reply.

I didn’t drive here, under LaSalle’s insistence. I haven’t driven myself anywhere since returning home from the honeymoon. Security has been super tight.

“No need. I have one on the way for you,” he says smoothly. “Love you, see you at home.”

I wrinkle my brows, but reply. “Love you too.”

I hang up and all of the other women in the room are either text messaging or on the phone. Val is the only one not, as she sits looking amused.

Once Paige, the last person to hang up her call, sits, Val laughs. “They’re on to us,” she shrugs.

“From your relaxed state, I’m guessing Uri already knows,” Pam snorts.

“Maybe,” Val sings.

“But he hasn’t told the others,” Marie says, as she bites her lip.

“Nope, not his style,” Val shrugs. “We’ll just have to change things up a bit and throw them back off.”

Paige and Pam burst into laughter next to each other. We all look at them as if they’re crazy. Shannon is the one to speak our thoughts.

“What’s so funny?”

“I bet we can tell who got us caught,” they say in unison, both looking at Rita.

“Whatever,” Rita huffs.

“Nope,” Reese laughs. “The problem here is that you all think those men aren’t paying attention.”

“On second thought, Nico always knows what this one is up to,” Camille teases.

“Mm, no she didn’t come for me. Logan dropped your ass off,” Reese sasses. “Didn’t he?”

We all laugh at that. My phone buzzes again, I shake my head, knowing it’s my car home. I finish my wine and hand out my parting hugs, before making my way home to my suspicious husband.

Things are sure to get interesting.
