Rock Me: Royally Complicated #1 by Katz, Avery (33)

32

Danny

My flight was delayed for three hours. It made me rethink my stance on private jets. I was firmly against them but I should have made an exception for Nathan. I boarded the plane feeling both nervous and excited. It was funny how Lizzie met her husband at a Moonstones concert and I ended up falling for their lead singer. Life was indeed full of surprises. I spent the twelve hour flight listening to Nathan’s voice on my iPod. I was looking forward to surprising him at the concert. Greg wanted me to go no matter the outcome. He told me to seize the moment instead of waiting and wondering. They said absence made the heart grow fonder but what if the distance between us made things worse?

Chicago was brimming with fellow tourists at the airport. It took me ages to find a taxi. Traffic was terrible on the highway. I was in a race against time to reach the charity concert. They were raising money for a good cause so I decided to chip in as well. I wrote a check for the cancer hospital and brought it along with me. Donating to a good cause was always at the top of my list. The long ride to the concert made me all the more excited to reunite with Nathan. Thirty minutes later, I found myself standing in line to enter the venue. There was herd of bubbly teenagers standing in front of me. They were gushing about The Moonstones. I smiled, feeling fuzzy as a teddy bear on the inside. I wanted to tap them on the shoulder and tell them that he was mine. He was annoyingly stubborn and a tiny bit temperamental but I loved him with all my heart.

I finally reached the arena where Nathan and his band had already started performing. He was a sight to behold in tight leather pants and a white silk shirt. It was unbuttoned to show off his tight pectoral muscles. I drooled like the rest of his fans and watched him make love to that microphone with his deep voice. There had to be more than four hundred people in here. The stage was lit up with a rainbow of spotlights and a large digital screen in the background. Nathan sang one of my favorite songs off their latest album. The lyrics were a cocktail of naughty and nice. He moved around the stage with a swagger anyone would kill for. Women screamed his name and raised signs in the air that said things like -marry me, Nathan- and -have my babies-. I witnessed one fan take off her bra and toss it at the stage. I suddenly understood what he meant when he said his fans could make or break his career. Without them, there would be no Moonstones.

I was flushed with excitement at the prospect of hugging him and kissing him again. I knew that what Greg said was true. I would rather have Nathan in my life and in the closet than none at all. I missed him so much.

The band played a few more songs and they were all on my iPod playlist. I sang along with the rest of the crowd and waved my hands in the air. I forgot all about my jet lag and enjoyed the concert. So many people showed up in support of the cause. Nathan called on a famous celebrity to take the stage. She was a popular actress here in the United States. The crowd erupted into a fresh wave of sheers when they saw her. She dedicated a song to her late brother who died of cancer. It was a very touching tribute.

Pink and gold confetti fell from the sky at the end of that song. I clapped my hands until they hurt and watched the actress leave the stage. My voice was hoarse from all the singing and screaming. Nathan combed back his straight raven hair and sat down with a guitar in his lap. The concert arena went silent in anticipation. He adjusted the microphone and smiled down at the crowd. “This new song is dedicated to the love of my life.” He openly declared.

My heart skipped a beat at his words. He cradled the guitar in his sculpted arms and strummed a brand new tune. It was mellow and sweet. It reminded me of Fleetwood Mac and Lady Gaga’s new era. His music was simple and honest. I imagined him scribbling down those lyrics on a hotel napkin. He sometimes did that when inspiration showed up unannounced. His creative mind was so remarkable to me.

The screen behind him came to life all of a sudden. I expected it to showcase the cancer hospital but instead, a cozy selfie of the two of us was on display. I blinked and did a double take.

“Oh my God.” I went weak in the knees when I saw it. I could barely hold myself up. We certainly looked like lovers in that photo. There was no doubt about it.

Women gasped in shock and the army of thirsty teens went quiet. You could hear a pin drop inside the venue. I held my breath and crossed my fingers. That was an incredibly bold move on Nathan’s part. He exceeded my expectations in every way. I listened to the song and fell in love with the lyrics. They brought happy tears to my eyes.

When you fall in love with a prince, you fight dragons and demons to get to him.

Your hearts speak the same language and your bodies move to the same rhythm.

If I could see you just one more time, I would make you forever mine.

The woman standing next to me suddenly noticed my distinctive head of blond hair. It was hard to miss, especially since I was tall and exceptionally dressed. I had zero time to change out of my Armani suit so I was basically the odd one out here. “Oh my God. You’re the guy.” She exclaimed, turning to her girlfriends and pointing a finger at me.

Others began to notice the striking resemblance between me and that gigantic photo. I smiled and tried to keep a low profile. Fate, apparently, had other plans.

“Look! It’s Prince Daniel.”

Another woman, bless her heart, shouted my name. She started yelling at everyone to make way for me. They cleared a pathway to the stage and ushered me towards the front row. Nathan and the band noticed the commotion along with their security detail. Those men were built like mountains. The enthusiastic woman asked them to grant me access to said stage but they refused.

Nathan finally noticed my presence and our eyes met for the first time in days. He removed his earpiece and turned to face his fellow band mates. He must have told them to stop because the song ended abruptly. I watched him put his guitar down before turning back around to face me. Our eyes met and remained connected for what felt like hours. Everything around me faded into the background as I stared into those catlike emerald eyes. He raised the microphone to his lips and flashed me an apologetic smile.

He cleared his throat and moved closer to my side of the stage. “You came.” He grinned. “I can’t believe my eyes.” He added.

His band mates waved at me. He must have told them about us because they gave me a thumbs up and made heart shapes using their hands. I was pleasantly surprised by their reaction. Nathan was afraid that they would turn their backs on him. They clearly chose not to.

Cameras flashed around me as I moved closer to the stage. My handsome rock star ran his fingers through his midnight locks and caressed me with those gentle eyes. “I owe you an apology, Charming. I really am sorry for denying what we had. The whole world needs to know that we’re in love. My feelings for you are beautiful and honest. They’re nothing to be ashamed of.”

My heart skipped a beat. He was so brave for doing this in front of an entire audience. My love for him grew and multiplied. I never knew loving someone could be that exciting and exhilarating.

“Now get up here so I can kiss you.” Nathan motioned for his security guards to help me. They showed me to the stairs and granted me access to the stage. Nathan welcomed me with open arms and kissed me. The crowd erupted in happy screams while we kissed.

“Yes! You guys are going to make me cry.” Theo wrapped his arms around us.

“Me too.” Cassie teared up and joined in on the hugs.

We could barely hear each other over the ocean of excitement below us.
