A Christmas For Eve by Michael James (3)

I didn’t think any man could make me want to play hooky from work, but Kevin has waltzed into my life, and I can’t get enough of him. For the last five nights, he has been in my bed, wishing we never had to leave once the morning alarm goes off. I did call in sick the day after Christmas, I was to worn out from all the sex we had that night. First under the Christmas tree in my living room and twice once we were in my bed. How can this man come into my life and it feels like we belong together already?

Today is the last work day before I’m off for the New Year’s holiday. I’m looking forward to spending as much time as I can with Kevin. He says he has a surprise for me tonight and I have absolutely no clue what it is. I’m not big on surprises, but if it involves him, I think I can handle it. I just wish all this work piled up on my desk would disappear. But if I want the promotion I’ve been working so hard for, I need to get it finished before I can leave today. Kevin is picking me up tonight at seven; leaving me with three hours to finish. If no one interrupts me, I should finish on time and still have a chance to get ready for our first real date.

Even though Kevin invited me over to Christmas dinner with his family that he called a date; I don’t consider it an actual date. Not that I would take back the invite, but a date is taking a lady out on the town just as a couple. Maybe I’m a little old fashion. But how old fashion is it to meet the parents before you go out officially. Anyways, I wouldn't trade it for anything, but tonight is our first official date; if you ask me.

My work hasn’t been easy today, there was more than I had first thought. I am running behind schedule and probably won’t have time to shower now. It’s a good thing I work behind a desk and not in a fast food joint. I’m just about ready to head out of my office when the boss comes in.

“Eve, I was hoping you would be free to come in tomorrow morning for a few hours? Things have gotten hectic over the Christmas break. We have a new client that we just landed, and I would love for you to take the lead.”

“Oh, who is it? Someone big, I hope.”

“It's marketing for new cologne line from Mr. Steed. So are you interested? He wants magazine ads, TV commercials, and billboards.”

Damn it, I want this account. I know it’s going to be big and probably land me the promotion I want. I don’t know who Mr. Steed is, but I’m going to have to work on New Year’s Eve to get this. I can only hope Kevin doesn’t mind cutting our date short tonight. I’m sure he’ll be okay with it, knowing it’s important to me.

“I’ll do it. What time you need me in tomorrow?”

“Nine am sharp and don’t be late. I heard he is a handful to deal with. I hope you can handle him.”

I gather up my briefcase and purse; now I actually am running late. I pull out of parking garage, and I’m thankful the traffic is light. I should have enough time to change into something more comfortable to wear. What do you wear when you don’t know where you are going?

Getting out of my car, I see Kevin is waiting for me on my front steps. What a site to see when you first get home, I could get used to this. He stands up and meets me half way.

“Good evening Gorgeous. How was work?” He gives me a passionate kiss.

“Hello, Sexy. My day was fabulous and can’t wait to tell you about it. But as you can see, I’m running behind and need to change before our first date.”

“The second time,” he says laughing.

“First one didn’t count, I didn’t know it was a date,” I say over my shoulder as I run up the stairs to my room.

I open my dresser to get out a pair of black jeans I haven’t worn before, and rip the tags off before I put them on. I get a black tank top from the top drawer and slip it over my head, covering it with a low-cut, pink sweater. Getting my boots from the closet, slipping them on my feet, I run to the bathroom and run a brush through my strawberry blonde hair.

Kevin whistles at me, “Damn, I’m going to have the hottest woman on my arm tonight. How can I be so lucky?”

“Stop, you are a nut! Are you going to tell me where we are going, now?”

“That, my lady, is a surprise.”

We take Kevin’s car on our date. Gee whiz, it’s beautiful. Why haven’t I seen this in the driveway across the street, like ever? It’s a shiny black SUV fully loaded inside. I’m almost afraid to touch anything it’s so clean.

“Is this your car, Kevin? How do you keep it so clean?”

“Yes, it’s mine, and I went and had it detailed today.”

“You trying to impress me? You know you already did that on Christmas night.” I say with a wink.

We pull into a parking garage, and we head towards the arena. Is there an event tonight I didn’t know about? I have this feeling like someone is following us and I move a little closer to Kevin. I’m not scared of them with Kevin beside me. I’m not sure if I should say something. I look over my shoulder a few times, and all I see are two men that look pretty damn big.

“Kevin, I think the people behind us are following us.”

He looks back and says, “They are probably just going the same place as we are.”
