A Christmas For Eve by Michael James (6)

Tonight is a big night for Kevin. His fight is tonight, and his championship is on the line. I’m so nervous for him. My stomach has been all knotted up all day. He seems to be calm, cool and collected. I’m the one who can’t sit still long enough to have a clear thought. He just left to go back to his parent’s house. He said it was to lift weights, but I think it was to get away from me. When I get nervous; I have a habit of moving a lot! I’ve cleaned things that weren’t dirty, made my bed, and cleaned the bathroom top to bottom. Kevin just sat back and watched my every move. He tried to get me to sit down, but I just couldn’t sit still. I need to learn how to relax if I’m going to be with him. He doesn’t need my nervous energy around him hours before a fight.

Since I locked myself out of my house two days ago, today is the first day I have been able to be back home. The storm cleared last night and roads are clean enough that a locksmith came today. I think a bath would help me relax, so I draw a bath and light some candles. I bring up my playlist on my phone and put my earbuds in my ears. I strip out of my clothes and sink into the hot water. Making sure the phone is safely on the side of the tub; I lay my head back and close my eyes. I added some lavender bubble bath hoping it will help me relax.

I bend my knees up and sink further down into the water. The bubbles cover my breasts and hide all my private parts. I glide my hand over my breasts and down my torso. When I reach my clit, I start to massage myself. I lift my other hand from my side and fill my palm with my breast. I play with it till my pink nipple is erect, with my other hand I insert two fingers inside. I feel the ripples inside and use my fingers to make myself feel good. My fingers work their magic, and I’m close, but not close enough. I need more friction to give me the extra push to fall over the edge. I start to pinch and pull on my nipple. I use more of my palm to press against my clit. I imagine it’s Kevin’s hand and his fingers inside me and on my breast. It’s all I need to give myself the release I need. I remove my fingers once the orgasm passes. I open my eyes when I push myself up in the tub. That’s when I notice Kevin standing in the doorway leaning against the doorframe. I pull my earbuds from my ears.

“Are you trying to kill me, Woman?”

I feel the blush on my cheeks. “I had no idea you were standing there.”

“Trust me, Sweetheart, that was sexy as hell, but now I need a cold shower.”

He comes over to me when I stand, and he hands me a towel. I take it and wrap it around my body. He takes my hand and puts it to his erection in his sweatpants.

“See what you do to me? Tonight you are mine, Eve.” He turns and walks out of my bathroom.

I wipe the fog from the mirror and run a brush through my strawberry blonde hair. I go to my closet, getting a sweater and jeans to wear. I dress and go down to see where Kevin disappeared to. I find him in the kitchen getting a bottle of water. I go to him and wrap my arms around him. He lifts me into his arms, and we kiss. I can never get enough of his taste on my tongue, his scent that fills my nose, and his laughter. I’m falling so hard for him. I’ve never felt these kind of feelings before. I think that is why my nerves are so on edge today. I don’t want him to get hurt tonight.

He puts me back down on my feet and says, “We better get going, our ride will be at my house soon.” I give him a nod, and we get ready to leave.

The limo drops us off at a private entrance. Kevin takes hold of my hand and we walk towards the locker room. His parents go up to the box suite and tell me they will meet me there. Once we get to the locker room, I’ll get to meet his coach and training team. I’m still a ball of nerves, maybe more now that we are here.

Kevin drops his duffle bag on the bench and goes to shake hands with his coach. I’m not sure what to do so I take a seat on the bench next to his bag. I pick at lint that doesn’t exist and look around the room. When Kevin comes over to me, I stand. He opens his duffle bag and gets out his tape, black sponsor shorts, and protective cup. I can’t believe how well he holds himself together.

“Are you doing alright, Sweetheart?”

“I’m doing good; I think. Would you like it if I let you get ready and go meet your parents?”

“No, I want you here. Will you be alright for a minute waiting for me? I need to go watch a quick video across the hall.” I give him a nod and before he leaves he gives me a quick kiss.

I’ve been waiting for Kevin to come back for the last five minutes. When the locker room door opens, I was hoping it was him, but it was his coach. He walks to me with an angry look on his face.

“Listen, Doll! You seem like a sweet girl and a smart one. So, I’m going to lay it on the line here for you. You are a distraction for Kevin, and he doesn’t need that right now. I am hoping you could make yourself scarce and see him when the fight is over. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this is a big fight for him. He’s been training for this one for months.”

I don’t even know what to say to him, I just get up and leave the locker room. I find the nearest bathroom, and wipe the tears from my eyes. How can some men be so damn mean? He could have been nice to me, but he talked to me like I’m a piece of trash. I freshen up my make-up, hoping no one can tell I’ve been crying. I’ve been hiding in this bathroom for a good twenty minutes; I should probably find the box suite before his parents get worried.

When I enter the suite, there are a few people here I don’t know. I spot a mini bar and make myself a drink. Something needs to cool my nerves. Marie came over to me telling me Kevin’s fight should begin in about five minutes. I make my way out to the exterior balcony. I want to see him going into the cage. As I lean over the railing, I remember the last time I was here with him. I smile to myself.

The music starts to play for Kevin’s opponent. He is on the other side of the arena, and I can’t see him well. But when he gets into the cage, I can see he’s pretty equal to Kevin’s size and height. I hear a few boo’s and feel a little sorry for the dude. Once he walks around the cage a few times, Kevin’s music begins to play. I lean over the railing waiting to see him. I know his entrance is right below us. The crowd is going crazy, and I feel proud he’s my boyfriend. I see him, and I yell out his name, he doesn’t look up like he told me he would. Maybe with all the noise, he didn’t hear me. He has his sponsor sweatshirt on, and the hood covers his head. I wonder to myself why he didn’t look up; maybe he is just focused on his fight. He makes his way around the ring, bouncing around getting pumped up. I hope the crowd quiets down, so I can hear the commentator.

Commentator

It’s Time… It’s 5, 5-minute rounds for the undisputed middleweight championship of the world. First in the blue corner is a grapper, holding a professional record of 23 wins and 7 loses. 6’0” and weighing in at 185 pounds. Fighting out of Rio de Janeiro presenting Luke ‘The Duke’ Douglas. He throws his fist into the air and circles the cage. Kevin just bounces on the balls of his feet.

And now introducing the champion fighting out of the red corner. A mixed martial artist, holding a professional record of 18 wins and 2 loses. He stands at 6’1” and weighs in at 183 pounds. Fighting out of Rochester NY presenting the former WEC middleweight champion and current reigning, defending, and undisputed UFC middleweight champion of the world Kevin ‘Lightning’ Steed.

The crowd goes nuts, and the men go to the center ring. They touch gloves. I look to my left where Kevin’s parents stand beside me. His dad goes to turn up the television, so we can hear the commentating. I hold the rail so tight my knuckles turn white.

I hear things like Luke fights southpaw and that leaves Kevin fighting orthodox. I have no idea what that means. So far, it’s like a dance down there, not much happening. Then out of no-where Luke goes after Kevin and gives him a right hook to his left cheek. Kevin fights back with a kick to his calf. Luke goes for a body kick, and he caught him. Kevin is quick on his feet and gives him a jab. Luke tags him clean, and they go down to the ground. “Shots to the body to our champion,” they say, and I hold my breath. Kevin gets steady on his feet, and Luke is keeping right on him, cutting off the cage from Kevin. Luke lands a punch to his left eye, splitting it open. I hear the commentators say, “Luke is looking real strong but never count Kevin out. He can land a sidekick that will knock his opponent out without a warning. That is where he gets the nickname ‘Lightning’ and he does hold the record for most single sidekick knockouts.” I bring my hand up to my mouth with worry, and Marie wraps an arm around my shoulders. It’s the end of round one, and both men go to their corners. I let out the breath I was holding in.

Round two begins and Luke is hot out of the corner, going for a takedown. He lands on top of Kevin and Luke keeps on him with a nasty left hook to the body. Kevin keeps his legs high. He knows how to use them to his advantage. “Kevin is tough, but Luke is winning 2-1 right now,” they say. One-minute left in round two. Kevin breaks free, and they are back on their feet. Kevin lands a nice combo to Luke. Luke maneuver’s and takes Kevin down again. My grip gets tighter on the railing as I watch the last few seconds of the round.

Round three begins, and Kevin lands a sidekick to Luke’s body and a right hook to his eye. Luke’s eye is cut now, too. Both men are fighting for the win. I think they are archenemies, but I don’t know why. “Kevin lands a sidekick to the eye. Luke lands a left hit, and he tries for a kick but Kevin blocks.” I almost don’t want to hear the TV anymore. Luke goes for the takedown, and he gets it, and he hammers Kevin. The way it looks now Kevin needs this round, and so far, it’s Luke who is winning. Ten seconds left in the round and Kevin breaks free.

With Kevin losing the first three rounds he will need to go for a knockout, it’s the only way he’ll win. Luke is hot out of his corner, and Kevin lets him land kick after kick to his leg. “Luke is doing a hell of a good job tonight; cutting off the ring,” they say. I want to run down there and cheer him on, tell him not to give up and to fight harder. His eye drips blood, and it is swelling. He looks exhausted, and I wish the fight would end. Luke takes Kevin to the ground again. He quickly flips Luke to the ground. They roll again, and it's Kevin blocking the hit. He uses his legs and gets to his feet. He lands a right hook to Luke’s cut eye. Kevin spins, giving him a sidekick to the head and Luke falls to the ground. Kevin jumps ready to strike, but the referee stops the fight. Kevin wins with another sidekick knockout.

I feel relief now that the fight is over. I hug Marie and Bob and leave to go to the locker room. I stop off at the restroom to use the bathroom and freshen my make-up. I run my fingers through my hair. I listen to the girls at the sink talk about the fight and how they want to get to him. They say horrible things about his girlfriend not realizing I’m standing right here. I quickly make my exit not wanting to hear them gossip about me.

I knock on the locker room door; a man opens it, I think it’s one of his sparring partners, but I don’t remember. I see Kevin laying down getting his eye cleaned and a butterfly to hold his cut together. When I get to his side, he looks angry with me. So, I don’t say anything. Once his wound is tended to, he tells everyone to get out. I wait for everyone to leave.

He says, “That meant you too, Eve.”

Not knowing what to say I say, “Oh!” I go to walk away and stop. “Congratulations on the win. I’ll wait outside the door for you.”

“We are done here. Go home, Eve.” When I don’t move from my place, he gets up and comes charging at me. “Leave, Eve.” I still don’t move. “Now you want to stick around, but you couldn’t before my fight. Do you realize I wasn’t my best tonight? Ask me why, Eve.”

“Why, Kevin?”

“Because my girlfriend asks if I want her to leave and I tell her, no. But when I came back, you were nowhere to be found. When I went looking for you and couldn’t find you, I was worried and distracted wondering what the hell happened to you!”

“I didn’t want to leave you, your coach forced me. And he made me feel like trash. So, if you want to be pissed at someone, go blow up at him. I’m out of here. Bye, Kevin.”
