Just Like in the Movies (Hollywood Hearts Book 1) by Ann-Katrin Byrde (32)

Micah

I woke up sprawled over Lew’s naked body. His face was still slightly flushed, his lips gently curved in a smile, even in sleep. He smelled like Lew and sex and I wondered how long it would be before he woke up. My cock rubbed against his hip, already hard and eager for him.

What time was it? My phone was out in the living room. So was Lew’s for that matter. The sunlight had lost the golden hue it usually had early in the morning, cheerily pointing out that the clock was ticking. It was enough to make me anxious about losing any more time with him.

I crept backward out of the bed, watching Lew's face for any sign I'd woken him. He didn't even twitch, but that shouldn't have surprised me. We hadn't slept a whole lot last night.

Thinking about why we hadn’t slept made me smile.

My phone was on the kitchen table island thing, with a dozen messages waiting for me on the screen. I grabbed a bottle of juice from the fridge and wandered over to the couch, answering an email from my agent about callbacks for that film I was hoping to get and whether I was interested in any of these TV shows that were going to be doing calls in the near future. I answered yes to all of it—if Lew was going to come back here, I wanted to make sure I could support us both if he needed to go back to school again. We weren't sure if his qualifications transferred, but neither of us had looked into it yet. And I kind of thought that, while living in this little apartment with Lew would be fun for a while, we'd probably start getting on each other's nerves if we were on top of each other all the time. My lease ran out in a couple of months—it might be time to look for something a bit bigger. Especially since Lew's family would probably want to come visit.

A faint "Mike?" reached my ears and I left my phone on the couch and went back to the bedroom. Lew was propped up on one elbow, tousled and sleepy-looking and utterly delectable.

"What are you doing awake?" I asked as I crawled back onto the bed and settled into the cradle of his thighs. "Did I wake you?"

He shrugged and leaned back against the pillows. "No, I just woke up and you were gone. What time is it?"

"Not that late." It wasn't, really, we had about four hours before we had to head to the airport.

"Good." His hands rubbed over my shoulders, massaging the muscle. "You coming back to bed?"

"I could." I could think of lots of things to do between now and when we had to leave. "Why?"

"Well, I was thinking," he said, in that very Lew way that told me he was being funny. "Breakfast would be nice, maybe down at that little café we saw the other day? And then I was thinking…" The kneading at my shoulders grew stronger and more insistent. "Once we were done eating, you could take me to a jewelry store." His eyes squinted a little but the corners of his mouth curled up despite his obvious efforts to keep a straight face.

He couldn’t…? Did he really mean…? “Lew? You mean it? You’ll marry me?”

He nodded and finally let his smile grow. “I will.”

I lunged up his body and kissed him thoroughly, then threw myself off the bed to look for clothes.

“Mike!” he said, laughing. “Where are you going?”

“To get dressed and take you to breakfast!” I told him, digging through my dresser. What did an alpha wear to get engaged? Damned if I knew.

I had half my clothes out scattered on the floor and the end of the bed when I noticed he hadn’t moved, except to sit up and watch me with his forearms crossed on top of his knees. “Lew? Are we going to breakfast?”

He grinned at me and rested his chin on his arms. “I thought you were going to come back to bed for a bit.”

I froze with one leg stuck in my best pair of jeans. He wasn’t wrong, but… “There’ll be time after, if we don’t take forever over breakfast.”

He cocked his head to the side and stared at me, so much like a curious raven I started to laugh. I pulled my pants on the rest of the way and crawled up the bed to kiss him. “The next time, I want to be able to look down and see my ring on your finger,” I said, using my leading-man-seduces-his-lady voice. Or his omega, in this situation. “So, you coming for breakfast?”

He nodded and tipped me over so I landed on my back beside him. “Give me ten minutes.” He ran his fingers over my chest and tweaked one my nipples, throwing me an arch look, then disappeared into the bathroom like he’d been shot from a cannon.

I lay on the bed and laughed like a lunatic. It was the best day ever, and it had only just started.
