Liam's Lament (Arrowtown series Book 3) by Lisa Oliver (36)

“Fuck, I thought they’d never go,” Trent slumped against their front door. He looked around the living room. There were plates, empty cups, a pile of diapers (clean thank goodness), a couple of empty bottles of baby formula, wrapping paper, toys and what looked like a book on childrearing peering out from under the mess. “We seriously need a bigger house.”

“It could’ve been worse,” Liam chuckled as he put Kayne up on his shoulder and rubbed his back. “They could’ve brought their five kids. Then we would’ve had bedlam on our hands. Come on, sit down. Take Kayne and I’ll start cleaning up.”

“That doesn’t sound fair.” But Trent picked his way through the mess and slumped on the couch. Noah and Lucien had been around since Trent and Liam brought Beau and Kayne home about half an hour after the birth. Ra, Seth, Simon and Darwin turned up with Brutus a while later. At least they brought food. Roy and Calvin were still on assignment but were overjoyed at the news and promised to call in tomorrow. Trent had just about got Ra and the others to leave when Rocky and Mal turned up which meant another round of coffees, drinks, and more damn food. “Pass the munchkin here and check on Beau, would you?”

“If he’s got any sense at all, he’d be sleeping. I checked up on him earlier. He can finally sleep on his stomach again.” Liam passed over Kayne and started gathering plates, cups and glasses. The living room seriously looked like a domestic fairy had thrown up in it.

“How are you doing, little one?” Trent peered down at the baby in his arms who was watching him closely. “A lot of people pledged their protection to you today. You’ve got a huge family. We might not be blood related, but every person you saw today would lay down their life for you.”

Kayne yawned and flailed his little fists before letting out a gentle burp. Liam dressed him in a cute dark onesie with a flame covered wolf on it. It was a present from Seth who looked so upset that he couldn’t find one with a lion, but Trent thought it was adorable.

And there I go with the baby brain, he thought with a smile. Already thinking things are adorable. As Kayne closed his eyes, Trent did too, thinking back to that moment of birth. He’d been worried; not that he’d dream of letting his mates know. But since meeting his mates, his wolf had been in overdrive in his protectiveness. Trent still didn’t know how he got anything done through Beau’s pregnancy; always wanting to check on him all the time.

Smelling Beau’s blood made his control difficult even though both man and wolf knew it had to be done. Trent lost himself in the flames that flickered over Beau’s skin until Doc placed Kayne on Beau’s chest. Trent believed he was in love when he met his mates; he knew he loved them with every part of his soul. But it seemed the heart had the ability to encompass all kinds of love and when Kayne opened his huge eyes and stared at him as though they knew each other, Trent was smitten.

Kayne was sleeping, his trust an incredible gift Trent would never abuse. Lulled by the sound of Liam stacking dishes of all things, Trent fell asleep.

Heaving a sigh, Liam threw the dishcloth in the washing machine and closed the door to the utility room. The dishwasher was quietly cranking along and for the first time all day, the house was peaceful. Liam was just debating whether to go and get Trent and Kayne, or check on Beau, when Beau came out of the bedroom dressed in nothing but a pair of low slung sweatpants.

“Look at you,” Liam couldn’t help giving his mate the once over. “Another week and no one will know you’ve been pregnant.”

“And as my grandfather told me it’s not possible for me to get pregnant again for at least another year, I am going to enjoy having my body back again.” Beau’s arms were hot and strong around Liam’s middle. “I can actually rub my dick on something now,” he whispered with a thrust of his bulge against Liam’s ass.

“Hmm,” Liam pressed back. “I’m more than happy to give you something to rub against but how about we get Kayne in bed and grab Trent first. I want to check your stitches too.”

“All gone. I shifted in the bathroom when I woke up.” Beau let go of him and pulled down the edge of his sweatpants. “I have a scar, but I’ll wear that with pride.”

With a trembling finger, Liam traced the light pink line that ran between Beau’s hip bones. “This baby making business is turning me into a right wuss,” he said as he quickly brushed at his eyes. “What you did, the strength and patience you showed especially this last week; you have given me the greatest gift.”

“We’re a family now,” Beau said blinking rapidly. “I don’t think I ever knew what that word meant until I saw Kayne for the first time. Did you…you know…?”

“Feel as though I could leap tall buildings in a single bound, fight off any foe and then invest in a bubble wrap company so our little son never gets a boo-boo?” Liam nodded. “Yes, and while Kayne is being good now, he’s tired out with all the fuss he’s been getting. In a few hours we’ll get to find out just how well those lungs of his work.”

“A couple of hours.” Beau wiggled his eyebrows. “I can do a lot in two hours.”

Chuckling, Liam grabbed at Beau’s cock and gave it a stroke, pulling a long moan from his mate. “If you can get Kayne into his own bed without waking him up, you can have my ass while I give Trent a blow job. I know you enjoy watching that.”

“Baby into his own bed? Piece of cake.” Beau covered his dick and hurried down to the living room. Kayne snuffled as Beau picked him up and Beau’s eyes widened. Using exaggerated tip-toe motions he slowly went down the hall towards Kayne’s new room.

“What’s going on?” Trent whispered having woken up as soon as Kayne was taken.

“Beau’s horny,” Liam said softly, taking a seat next to his mate. “I told him if he could get Kayne into his own bed still asleep he could have my ass while I blew you.”

“Yum. I wouldn’t mind some of that.” Trent winked.

Liam held up a finger. “Don’t count on it.” He’d just finished speaking when they heard the faint wail of a baby’s cry. “I’ll get the bottle,” he said, getting up.

“I’ll find the clean diapers,” Trent sighed as he struggled to his feet. “You’re a real tease, you know that,” he added as he adjusted his cock.

“Oh, babe, Kayne’s awake now, but in another thirty minutes he’ll be asleep again. At this age all they do is eat, sleep and poop.”

“I can wait thirty minutes, although,” Trent lifted his head and sniffed the air, “if that smell is half as bad close up as it is from a distance, I’m not sure I’ll be in the mood.”

“Welcome to fatherhood, babe.” As he went into the kitchen for another bottle, Liam couldn’t keep the smile from his face. Sure, he’d love nothing more than to be wrapped up with his mates, but from today onwards his son was always going to come first.
