Chapter Ten
Drew
I watched her read through a majority of the letters until she fell asleep on the sofa in the sitting room.
I didn’t have the heart to wake her so I got a blanket and covered it over her.
Unfortunately, my attempts disturbed her and she stirred.
Those beautiful blue eyes fluttered open and gazed at me.
“I didn’t want to wake you,” I told her.
“I’m sorry I fell asleep.” She sat up and fixed the blanket over her legs. “I swear what you wrote wasn’t boring.”
I sat next to her, lifted her legs and placed them on top of mine.
“Baby, you do know that I’m right here and you can talk to me instead of reading what I had to say ten years ago,” I chuckled.
“Drew I don’t want to miss anything. I missed this,” she said rubbing her eyes.
“Okay, well how about you pack those up and read them on the plane?” I only sounded fine with her leaving because I’d had a long hard think about what I could do and decided I was going to Morocco with her.
“I’m not going,” she beamed.
“What?” I smiled at the prospect.
“I’ve been thinking for a while now of taking a sabbatical. I’m going to. They can find a replacement for me for the Moroccan assignment.”
“So, this sabbatical of yours. What sort of plans do you have?”
She shuffled and smiled. “I haven’t really thought much past being in bed with you.”
“You are too sexy for your own good you know?” She was and I couldn’t wait to start the bedroom activities.
“You too.” She cooed and moved closer to sit in my lap.
“Would you really stay?”
“If you didn’t think I was imposing or that this may be too fast,” she answered.
“I think it’s perfect, although I was about to book my flight to join you in Morocco.”
She gasped. “Really, you would have done that for me?”
“Anything baby.”
“You, don’t think it’s strange to just …” She thought for a moment. “Pick up where we left off. And oh God!” She winced jumping off my lap.
“What?”
“You… have a girlfriend.” A sickly expression formed on her face. “ I made you cheat.”“No.” I shook my head.
“I saw her at the coffee house.”
“No.” I reached for her and pulled her back into my lap. “Her name’s Emma. We went on a few dates. I kissed her. That’s all. I’ll speak to her about us. I wouldn’t have cheated, not even with you. I’m not like that.” Since both our parents had had an affair with each other I thought I’d take the opportunity to highlight that.
She reached up and touched my face. “I know. You’re a good man Drew. I wish that our parents could have been different.”
“Me too. Who would have thought that your mom and my dad would have been together like that. I don’t even want to think about it.” I didn’t.
“Let’s not. Like you said tomorrow,” she looked at the clock on the wall. It was nearly one a.m. “Tomorrow is now today.” She giggled. “You said it had any number of possibilities.”
“It does. So, is Morocco definitely out?” I asked wanting to be sure she was certain. “I didn’t want to interrupt your plans, and I’m being serious about going with you. I’ve been back for six months trying to figure out what I want to do. Naturally I just fell into work back at the construction company. I think my dad wants me to take over the business.”
Parker used to have more involvement with the business, particularly the accounts. He helped my father a lot with that aspect, but he had a family now and he’d moved to Boston to start his own company just before I came home.
I wasn’t business minded like Parker, but I knew what I was doing and would feel better running the business if I knew Bree wanted to stay here.
“I’ve felt like I didn’t belong anywhere for a long time. Ever since I left. I bounced from one country to the next, never taking a break , and I put off coming home because of all the bad memories, and because I thought I lost you. I didn’t want to be reminded of that. Coming back, and being here with you has really felt like coming home. I… just have to get past the whole Lily thing. But I want to.” She nodded.
I was actually glad to hear that.
“Okay, so we’re doing this? You and me finally.”
“Yes,” she nodded with excitement. Then a look of awe filled her eyes. “I love you Drew.”
“I love you too Bree.” I smiled. It felt great to say that without the horrible memory of that night she was taken from me attached to it. “Okay, let’s go.”
“Go where?” she laughed when I lifted her up.
“It’s time to play.”
