Holding Emelia and Dante’s daughter in my arms, I can’t help but wonder if I’m pregnant. I haven’t even thought about that being a possibility until now. Although I never imagined that for myself while aged nineteen, I think I’d be disappointed if I’m not.

I don’t really know what to do or say but when Diego softly curses behind me, I realize that I don’t need to. He moves into position like Kasey was with me, and kisses his wife, while whispering to her.

She nods her head, agreeing to something. I look at Kasey who shrugs but tugs me into his arms. Dante and Emelia are watching the other couple as well, and when Diego lifts his head there’s a huge grin splitting his face. “We’re pregnant,” he announces.

“Holy shit,” Emelia blurts before she covers her mouth and bursts into tears.

“Crap,” Diego says while his sister and wife cry.

“Why is everyone crying?” Kasey asks, bewildered.

I turn my head and meet Kasey’s amused gaze. Kissing him on the lips, I whisper, “Because they’re happy.”

Rae sniffles into a tissue. “It was a shock. We went to the doctor to discuss the possibility of having a baby.”

“They did tests,” Diego adds, “and it turns out she’s already pregnant…and healthy.”

“It’s a good shock.” Rae dabs at her eyes. “I just had no idea that I was pregnant. Stupid really.” She nuzzles against Diego’s neck as he holds her tightly.

“I’m so happy for you both,” Emelia says, although her voice is filled with tears.

After our goodbyes, Kasey holds my hand and leads me away from the maternity ward to his truck, where he crowds me in the open door. “One day soon, I hope that it’s us, holding our baby.” He cradles my face in his hands. “I want that so much with you.”

“I want it too,” I admit, closing the distance between our lips while wrapping my arms around his neck.

At the back of my mind is the thought that he’s talked about our future together, but other than telling me he wants it all with me, including marriage, he hasn’t proposed. “Where’d you go?” he asks, searching my eyes.
