Love in Game (De La Fuente Family Book 6) by Lexi Buchanan (33)

Epilogue ~ Felicity

The game that the New York Mavericks are currently winning is Kasey’s last game with them. With any NHL team. He says he’s really happy with the decision he’s made and that it was a long time in coming, and seeing his smile as we’ve been packing up the apartment makes me believe him. He’s as excited as I am to start the next stage in our lives, which is going to have an addition in approximately thirty-two weeks.

I haven’t told Kasey yet, even though I’ve been desperate to. But in reality, I wanted to wait until today to break the news to him. I have it all planned. Underneath his team jersey that I’m wearing is a pale blue shirt with a message written on it especially for him. I’m going to wait until it’s time and then before he looks for me, I’m going to be ready. I’m nervous and keep chewing on my lip, which will tell Kasey there’s something on my mind. A whole bundle of joy is what’s on my mind.

On the odd occasion I’ve wondered if Kasey knows because he’ll stare at my stomach while lost in his own thoughts. So perhaps he’s been waiting for me to tell him.

A huge roar goes up and then the crowds are standing and singing and dancing where they stand. Xander’s sister, Alison, tugs me to my feet and grins. “They won!” She hugs me and laughs.

I grin and try to find Kasey on the ice. I spot him as he’s handed a microphone. After a few minutes he manages to calm everyone down and asks for the fans to stay seated for a few minutes.

“Thank you,” he says. “As you know, today was my last game with the Mavericks, and being able to say we won my last ever professional game is something that I’ll always cherish.” He breathes and holds my gaze. “I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing me constant support while I’ve been a Maverick, so thank you.” He winks at me. “Now, I’d like to invite my girl down to the ice because I have something to ask her.”

Standing in shock, Alison nudges me, which gets me moving toward the ice. I feel my face blush with embarrassment at having so many eyes on me. I’d much rather hide at the back of a crowd than be at the center.

Kasey opens the door to the ice, and taking my hand, he kisses me on the cheek. “You’re hot, babe,” he whispers for my ears only.

One of his teammates rolls out a small section of carpet for me to walk on, as Kasey leads me further into the rink until I’m at the edge of the carpet. Here to my absolute surprise, he drops to one knee.

Holding my gaze, he holds a ring out toward me. “My mother bought this ring for me, with my birthstone represented before she died so many years ago. It’s for the woman who I choose to spend my life with.” He pauses and gets his emotions under control while tears of happiness slide down my face. “Felicity”—he takes my hand—“I’ve been in love with you since the moment I laid eyes on you in Vegas. Please say you’ll be mine always, and that I’ll be yours. Will you marry me?”

I cover my face with my hands and cry while I nod my head, and then seconds later Kasey pulls me into the cradle of his arms. I hold on tight and whisper, “Yes. Yes. Yes. I’ll marry you. I love you so much.”

Stepping back, Kasey slides the ring onto my finger as the fans start to chant, “Kiss. Kiss. Kiss…”

Kasey smirks and holding my face in his hands, kisses me. He places light kisses all over my face until he reclaims my lips for a searing kiss that leaves me aching. “Hold that thought.”

My heart feels so full and I’ve only just remembered that I have a surprise of my own.

Stepping out of his arms, I hold out a hand. “Stay there,” I mumble and turn my back to him while I remove the shirt.

Turning around, I give him a shy smile and wait for him to read my shirt, which has, “It’s a boy!” written over my belly. I point down and when his eyes follow, they widen and seconds later he drops to his knees in front of me.

Xander takes the microphone and announces, “Kasey’s going to be a daddy to a little boy.”

I smile through my tears and feel my legs about to give way when Kasey wraps his arms around my waist and kisses my belly. His hold tightens and then I feel dampness against me and realize he’s crying.

Grabbing hold of his arms, I tug, and after a minute or two, he rises and wraps me up against him. He nuzzles into my neck, and whispers, “I never knew what it was like to be so happy, until I met you.”

Crying with him, I admit, “I can’t believe that you asked me to marry you. How did you manage to keep that such a secret?”

He smacks me on the ass and taking my hand, leads me off the ice. “The same way you kept your secret.”

“I couldn’t miss your last game.” Diego surprises us as we step out of the rink. “And after the engagement and baby announcement, I’m sure as fuck glad I didn’t miss it.”

“We need to tell everyone at home,” Kasey says.

Diego laughs. “They know.”

“That was quick, even for you,” Kasey adds.

“As soon as you asked for Felicity to join you on the ice, I videoed it. Sent it to everyone in a group text.” He grins, and says to me, “Welcome officially to the family,” followed with a hug.

“Bro, can you look after Felicity while I go and grab my stuff?”

Diego nods.

“Back soon,” Kasey says, and with one last kiss, follows the rest of the team from the ice.
