Love in Game (De La Fuente Family Book 6) by Lexi Buchanan (34)

Epilogue ~ Kasey

Watching Felicity as she chats to the women of the family, I can’t help thinking how lucky and happy I am and all because of the beautiful woman who loves me. I never knew true happiness or that there was anything missing from my life until Felicity dropped into it. Now, I can’t imagine my life without her.

My eyes caress over her face and down to her stomach where I find that I can’t move them away from the small baby bump. Our little boy is growing in there and I might be over excited about that. Felicity tells me that I’m like a little kid on Christmas morning, but I think she enjoys me showing her just how big I actually am too much to stop with the teasing.

“I never thought I’d see the day,” Andie says, snapping me out of my thoughts. “You do realize that you wear a sappy look twenty-four seven?”

I laugh and counter, “This handsome face wears a contented look twenty-four seven.”

“Eww, Kasey.” Laughing, she sits beside me with a groan.

“Are you okay?” I frown and really look at her.

The dark circles under her eyes tell me she hasn’t been sleeping well. Her skin is white with hardly any color to her usual rosy cheeks, and she’s lost weight.

“What’s going on, Andie? And please don’t say nothing.”

She rolls her eyes with a small smile appearing on her lips. “You always say that.”

“Because I want the truth.”

“I know,” she mumbles so quietly. “I’m okay really. I’ve had classes, exams, and I’ve been busy as a TA as well. It’s nonstop.” She smiles. “I’m home for a week now, and Mom has already told me she plans on feeding me three square meals a day with snacks in between.”

“I think Felicity and I will move in with you.” I chuckle.

“Felicity has you so wrapped up that there is no way you’d share space with anyone but her right now.”

My eyes find Felicity and I smile when I realize she’s watching me. Her face lights up and if I wasn’t worried about Andie I’d be over there with my arms around her.

Blowing Felicity a kiss, I turn back to Andie. “How is everything with your professor?”

Her eyes dip and her smile fades. “The same. He only speaks to me when he has to, and uses someone as a go between.” She shrugs. “I hate it and it’s stupid and awkward, and I really don’t know what to do about it. I mean you’d think that I’d been throwing myself at the man with the way he’s acting.”

“I’ve said this before, but are you sure he doesn’t want the same as you? Maybe he’s trying to protect his job and your place on the masters program, not to mention your TA appointment. Anything between you both is strictly prohibited, right?”

“It is. I’ve decided to just go along with everything as it makes for an easier life.” She smiles although it doesn’t reach her eyes. “I actually have a date with another masters student when I get back.”

“You do?”

“Yep. I’m sick of being alone and moping about him, so wish me luck,” she says. “I’ll leave you to your lovely fiancée.” She bends and kisses my cheek. “I’m really happy for you, Kasey.” Jumping down from the porch, she reaches for Felicity and gives her a hug. Words are exchanged and then my beautiful girl settles on my lap.

“Why are you over here?” she asks.

“I wanted to just sit and watch our family, and especially you. I can’t get enough of watching you, and watching your baby bump grow. I can’t wait until you’re so big that you can’t see your toes. I’m really looking forward to the day when you’re like that and I have you spread out on our bed while I pleasure you. I want to be able to rub your aches and pains away. I want to feel our child as it stretches and plays football in your belly. But most of all, I can’t wait to watch you bring a new life into this world to meet his mommy and daddy.”

“Oh, Kasey.” She cries softly against my chest. “Those words…You made me cry.”

“I love you, soon to be Mrs. De La Fuente.” I kiss her quickly.

“I love you so much, Kasey. I can’t believe how lucky I am.”

“Hmm.” I nuzzle into her neck. “Talking about lucky, watch.” I nod in the direction of her brother, Blake.

Blake has been on his best behavior while under Violet’s roof and his physical therapy is helping him to keep in shape, but unfortunately he’s still in a wheelchair.

Sometimes I wonder about him and about how he’s feeling now that his sister has a life of her own. He’s still part of it and always will be, but it must be strange for him.

Now though, he’s disappeared around the back of the house with Violet and meeting Felicity’s curious gaze, I wiggle my brows.

“Seriously? You think there’s something going on?”

“I don’t know, honey. You’ve seen him watching her when she isn’t looking and when he doesn’t realize he’s being watched. Maybe she’ll help him heal in more ways than one.”

Felicity frowns. “I don’t know what she’s running from because I haven’t asked. It’s her story to tell, if and when she’s ready. I just hope that she doesn’t hurt Blake in the process because she’s given him a reason to get out of bed every day. That I have noticed.”

“I’ve noticed as well…now back to my soon to be wife and unborn child. Do you remember the other week, when we went for a drive and you fell in love with the house we saw set back from the lake? I believe you called it your house.”

She giggles. “How could I forget? It’s the most beautiful house I’ve ever seen. Not too big, but not too small either. Perfect gardens and that view…it’s just amazing.”

“It’s also ours,” I announce and feel her body freeze at my words.

“What did you just say?” Her eyes search mine and suddenly start to fill with tears.

“I bought us your house. The contracts are waiting for your signature and then we can move in, or wait while we decide what work needs to be done. It’s up to you, honey, because as long as you’re in the house with me then I’m home.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell you how much I love you, Kasey.”

“I love you too.”
