Christmas Candy: A Holiday Second Chance Box Set by Angela Blake (32)

Chapter Seven

Jordyn was sitting in the living room sofa. Her stilettos were scattered around the floor and her handbag was thrown to the couch.

Franny tried to avoid stepping on the shards of a broken flower vase and roses.

“That vase was a gift from my aunt,” Franny said in disappointment.

Jordyn sobbed on a pillow she wrapped her arms around on. Tears and mascara stained her favorite Stitch pillow.

“It’s all right. I’m here for you now, Jordyn. Cry your heart out and tell me what happened when you are ready.” Jordyn sobbed louder and buried her face deeper into the pillow. She leaned her head towards Franny’s chest and spread out her legs on the couch.

Jordyn was silent thinking of a way to comfort her best friend.

“I could get Jorge to murder Tom if you want. He could easily snap your ex in two with those huge arms of his. Just say the words, Jordy.” Franny joked around trying to lift Jordyn’s spirit.

Jordyn was not smiling. She did not have it in her to even give a tiny smirk. Franny hummed the tune to Jordyn’s favorite sad song by The Frey. She brushed her hands through Jordyn’s messy hair.

Jordyn was not able to say a whole word throughout the night. She fell asleep on Franny’s lap and soaked the bottom part of her dress in tears. Franny fell asleep sitting on the couch not soon after Jordyn fell deep into slumber.

“Mommy,” a familiar voice of a little girl echoed through the fog. Jordyn was standing on a field surrounded with rose bushes.

“Gracie,” Jordyn called out to the voice. “Where are you, baby?”

“I’m right here mommy,” Jordyn began to ran towards where she thought the voice was coming from.

The skies began to darken. Jordyn could not find the source of Gracie’s voice nor Gracie.

“Jordy?” Another familiar voice echoes. This time the voice was a man’s. It was Tom’s deep sultry voice.

“Stay away from me Tom!” Jordyn screamed as loud as she could but the voice echoed around her.

“Stay away!” Jordyn repeated trying to block out Tom’s voice. She pressed her hands on her head trying to cover her ears.

Jordyn collapses as the ground began to quake. She fell into the void, the darkness inside her that she avoided for so long.

“Mommy, don’t be afraid.” A silhouette made of light appeared in front of Jordyn.

“It’s just me, mommy.” The light materialized to form the hand of the little girl as she tried to grab her mother’s hand.

“Baby,” Jordyn embraces the light as tears ran down her face.

“You have to let go mommy,” Jordyn’s embrace tightened with those words. “I can’t let go of you. Not now that I’ve gotten you back. No one can ever replace you, baby”

“No one is going to replace me mommy. You told me that I was special.”

“Of course you are special, baby.” The light vanishes and Jordyn floats around the darkness enveloping her.

“Let’s have another baby,” Tom’s voice echoed again and again.

A bright flash of light blinds Jordyn for a second. As she opened her eyes, she’s back inside her old house. She stands at the center of the kitchen with her swollen limbs and her heavy womb.

“Good morning, Jor.” Tom embraced Jordyn from behind. He stroked his hands on her womb. “Good morning, Gracie.”

“Gracie?” Jordyn asked in confusion.

“Yeah, I always loved the name ‘Gracie’. She’s our own little piece of grace. Don’t you think the name’s beautiful?” Tom replied as he kissed Jordyn’s neck.

“This can’t be happening,” Jordyn said to herself in disbelief.

“I know it feels like a fantasy,” Tom swayed his hips trying to sing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’. He replaced the word ‘Lovely’ with the words ‘Jordyn’ and ‘Gracie’ every other line.

Jordyn couldn’t help herself but sing along with Tom. Her soprano voice melded beautifully to his bass.

Jordyn could feel the warmth of Tom’s embrace. Her tears stopped flowing. She knew who she wanted to be with for the rest of her life.

Jordyn opened her eyes.

“Are you Mr. and Mrs. Grant?” The doctor said in a low voice. Jordyn realized that she was now in a hospital.

“No,” a word Jordyn kept repeating to herself as she tried to run away from the situation.

“No, no, no, this can’t be happening. This must be a dream, it has to be.” Confusion clearly visible on Jordyn’s face as she tried to wail herself to wake up from what seemed to her as a wretched dream.

“Is she alright?” asked the doctor to Tom. “Well, as I was saying. Your son is in tip top shape. He’s a very healthy boy.”

“Son? but I don’t have a son!” Jordyn really felt confused. She never had a son before. She only had Gracie.

“Let’s have another baby,” Tom’s voice echoed again. This time Jordyn did not try running away from the situation. She felt glee as she saw a small boy ran towards her.

“Mommy, let’s go have ice cream now.” The small boy grabbed Jordyn’s hand.

Jordyn was confused yet tears ran down her face once again. She was sure that it was not tears of sadness as she felt herself smiling at the little boy.

“Hello, is this Mrs. Montgomery?” Franny pressed Jordyn’s cellphone to her ears. “Yes. I am calling about Jordyn. She ran into a little trouble and may be there later than usual.”

“Tom?” Franny heard Tom’s voice on the phone. His deep sultry voice sounded tired and depressed. He was waiting all morning at the advertising firm for Jordyn to come to work. Jordyn was still asleep at 11AM. Her head laid down on Franny’s thighs. She looked so peaceful.

“What happened last night? Jordyn was crying all alone when I got home.” Franny asked in a concerned tone. Franny’s right hand was holding up the cellphone and her other hand was touching her forehead trying to massage her temples.

“I sort of told her that I wanted us to have another baby,” replied Tom to Franny’s question. His voice started to shiver. It sounded like he was about to shed tears.

“You said what?” Franny let out a whispered scream at the shock of what she had heard. She did not want to wake up Jordyn with the phone call so she continued to sit down right beside her.

“I told her I wanted to have another baby,” Tom repeated himself trying to make it clear about what happened between Jordyn and Tom last night.

“Why don’t you just rip out her heart Tom?” asked Franny as a rhetorical question. She massaged her temples even harder to combat the headache given to her by Tom’s words and let out a big sigh.

“I really am sorry. I am trying my best to make things better.” Tom sincerely apologizes for his actions.

“You better fix this or I will get my hot Spanish boyfriend to beat you down.” Franny threatened Tom to get back together with Jordyn.

Jordyn woke up hearing the words ‘Spanish boyfriend’. “Are you and Jorge are an item now?” Jordyn yawned asking Franny. She stretched her body and turned around to look at Franny.

“Well we are not really official yet although I would bet his tight ass that he wants to be with me. Who wouldn’t want to be with me?” Franny replied to Jordyn’s question immediately. She paused her statement as she realized that Jordyn had enough strength and was feeling better enough to speak again.

“You’re awake and speaking!” Franny immediately hanged up the cellphone to tend to Jordyn’s needs. “Do you need anything, sweetie? Do you need coffee, waffles, pancakes? Just name it.”

“A hot cup of coffee sounds amazing.” Jordyn replied yawning and lifting her head off of Franny’s thighs.

“I’m really sorry about what happened last night. I didn’t mean to ruin your date with your new boyfriend.” Jordyn apologized with a quick hug to Franny.

“It’s all fine. I got to feel him up either way so the night was not a total loss.” The feeling of Jorge’s hot body crossed Franny’s mind. Jordyn looked at Franny and lifted her right eyebrow giving a curious look.

“Stop looking at me like that. I just rode...” Franny stopped for a moment to bite her lower lip. She repeated her last statement. “I just rode on his motorcycle while feeling up his abs through his thin cotton shirt.”

“I am glad that you finally have someone,” Jordyn began to rub her red puffy eyes. “Tell me about it later. I need my hot morning coffee.”

“Ice cold coffee it is,” said Franny jokingly. She stood up off the couch and rushed towards the kitchen.

“I said hot coffee,” Jordyn yelled back at Franny.

Jordyn let out another yawn and fumbled around for her cellphone. She found her phone and picked it up off of the coffee table. She pressed the phone’s on/off button. The phone read out ‘11:34 AM’. Jordyn was startled by the time. She was gonna be the latest she had ever been ever since she worked in the advertising firm.

“Boss is definitely gonna kill me.” Jordyn dropped her phone on the couch letting out a big sigh and immediately ran up the stairs to take a bath. She flung open the door to the bathroom and locked it as soon as she stepped inside.

Franny pressed the button on the coffee maker. She yawned and stretched her body that ached because of sleeping on the couch. Franny stepped back into the living room to check in on Jordyn but she had already left to take a hot steamy bath upstairs.

Franny picked up Jordyn’s phone off the couch. She dialed back the number from the firm. A woman answered the phone call.

“Hello, this is Jordyn’s friend. I wanted to ask if Captain Thomas Grant is still there?” Franny asked the lady on the phone.

“I am sorry dear but he just left. He said he had things he had to take care of.” The lady on the phone answered back. “I am pretty sure that he will come back some time later. Do you want to leave him a message?”

“No, thank you. It’s all right. I’ll just talk to him when I can. Thank you for answering.” Franny turned down the lady’s offer and hanged up the phone. The cell phone vibrated on her hand. It was a late text message from the number she called. The text message read out, “I promise that I will do everything in my power to get Jordy back. You have my word. –Tom”.

“You better keep your word,” Franny muttered to herself.

Ring! The coffee maker was finished brewing the coffee. Franny headed back to the kitchen to fetch a portable thermos for Jordyn’s coffee.

Jordyn stepped out of the bathroom soaking wet. She had forgotten to bring a towel in so she had to yell for Franny to bring her a towel or she could leave the bathroom au naturale. She opened the door slightly to peek through. Franny was still downstairs fetching her coffee. Seeing that the coast was clear, Jordyn ran towards her bedroom.

Jordyn fumbles around to find the clothes she needed to wear. On her drawer she grabbed an identical pair of the underwear that Tom ripped apart. It even had a tiny rip on its sides. Jordyn paused for a moment to take a deep breath as she is reminded of what happened yesterday.

“Am I ready to go to work?” Jordyn asked herself. She knew that Tom was going to be there again today waiting for her. Jordyn exhales and encouraged herself that she can face whatever she needed to face with Tom.

“Jordy? I have your coffee.” Franny called out to her friend after knocking on Jordyn’s bedroom door.

“No time Fran, I’m already way too late for work.” Jordyn rushed putting her clothes on. Jordyn felt pumped. It may have been because of her dream but she felt much better than she did last night.

“Don’t worry. I’ve filled your thermos with coffee.” Franny leaned against the door waiting for Jordyn to finish dressing up.

“Thanks Fran, I’m almost finished getting ready.” Jordyn shouted through the door to let Franny know.

“Do you want to talk about what happened last night?” Franny got curious waiting for a couple of moments. The doors swung open.

“No need to talk Franny. I’m fine.” Jordyn grabbed the thermos filled with coffee from Franny’s hands. She gave Franny a reassuring smile and a warm embrace.

“How do I look?” Asked Jordyn while she twirled around with her arms making gestures.

“You always look amazing,” Franny gave Jordyn a boost of confidence to pull through to today.

“Alright, I also have to get ready for work now.” Franny wrapped her arms around Jordyn before she went on her way to work. Jordyn climbs down the staircase, saying her goodbyes to Franny.

“Don’t stress yourself out too much,” Franny yelled out to Jordyn as she opened the front door. Jordyn stepped out and yelled back, “Bye Fran, Have fun with Jorge.”
