Logan's Loves: Men of Crooked Bend Book 8 by Taylor Rylan (17)

Rhett — 16

I swear, you’d think that Logan and I had spent the night out getting drunk or something. We hadn’t, but he’d made love to me and it was exactly what I needed from him last night. That’s why I married him. Not only was he a wonderful person, he always knew exactly what I needed, when I needed it.

I was downstairs warming bottles while Logan was upstairs changing soaking wet diapers when there was a loud knock on the back door. It was too damn early for visitors, so it had to either be Boone or one of the foremen from the ranch.

The last two people I expected to see were my dads though. I opened the door to their smiling faces, my surprise evident.

“Happy New Year!” Papa said as he enveloped me in one of his signature bear hugs. I loved Papa’s hugs, and no matter how old I got, they always made me feel better.

“What? How? When did you two get back? We weren’t expecting you until late tonight at the earliest.”

“We got in about ten last night, and we went straight to our place and crashed. We know we should have called first, but I hope you won’t say no if we ask to help out with the twins,” Dad said, hesitantly. And that right there was what I didn’t want. I didn’t want the family to think they weren’t welcome.

“Dad, of course you two can visit and see the twins. I’m just not quite awake yet, or I’d offer you coffee.” I looked longingly toward the coffeepot, but it would have to wait. Logan needed the bottles that were now ready. “I need to get these up to Logan. We have two very hungry babies this morning,” I told Dad and Papa as I took off for the stairs with a bottle in each hand.

I heard them both behind me, and when we entered the nursery, Logan seemed just as surprised as I was to see my dads.

“Hey. It’s early. Everything okay?” he asked as he picked up Abi. Ash was in the crib, sucking on his fist.

“Everything’s fine. We thought we’d stop by and visit with the four of you and see about maybe spoiling the grandbabies a bit? If that’s all right?” Papa told Logan.

“You’re welcome to as far as I’m concerned. Did you want to feed them? They were up at two, and I know I could really use coffee right about now,” Logan said as he passed Abi off to Papa.

“Better yet, if you want, why don’t you go back to bed and sleep in for a bit? We’ll take care of the twins for you if you don’t mind, and you can get some extra sleep. I know with Fi and Joe being back in Texas, things have been…strained.”

“I called her. We talked it out, Papa.”

“I know you did. And I hope you will tell us if we’re ever overstepping. But we’d love to spend some time with these two and if that allows you some extra sleep, I’d consider that a bonus,” Papa said while looking between the two of us. I handed Dad the other bottle and simply grabbed Logan’s hand and pulled him from the room.

“We’ll be in bed. Wake us if you need us,” I told them as we walked out the door. I didn’t stop until I was at the edge of the bed, and I crawled right on up it, plopped down, and pulled the blankets up to my chin. “Join me?” I asked Logan, who simply smiled and crawled back under the covers with me.

“You sure?”

“Yeah, I am. They asked if it was okay. They made sure we wanted help. They didn’t just assume we needed it, and that’s what’s different,” I replied, knowing he wasn’t asking about him joining me but rather if I was okay with my dads here, taking care of the twins. And I was. I adored my babies, but having two was hard and I wasn’t afraid to admit that. I was still working on asking for help, but we were getting there, quickly.

Logan and I passed out and woke up to the smell of bacon and coffee. And there are few things that smell better first thing in the morning than bacon. Coffee being one of them.

“Mmm, what time is it?” I mumbled.

“Time for bacon. I’m not sure, but judging by the brightness outside, I’d say close to lunch.”

I rolled over and out of Logan’s arms and was met by a cold nose that was followed by a warm, wet tongue. “Hi, Scarlett. What time is it, girl?”

“It’s lunchtime,” Dad said from the doorway. He had Ash in his arms, judging by the blue sleeper. “I didn’t want to disturb you, but this one was fussing because he needed his diaper changed and I happened to hear you when I was leaving the nursery. It’s almost noon if you two want to eat.”

“Noon? Really?” Logan asked, jumping up from the bed and dashing into the bathroom.

“Is he okay? Did he have to work or something?”

I smiled and shook my head. “Naw, he was just hoping you wouldn’t see his erection since he’s still in his sleep pants.”

Dad laughed, causing Ash to jump in his arms, but our son could sleep through anything, it seemed, because he quickly settled.

“Sorry. That’s funny. I have seen a few in my lifetime, you know.”

“Yes, but not my husband’s and I’d like to keep it that way,” I said, doing my best to glare at my dad. It wasn’t working though because Dad simply laughed down the hallway after he turned and left our doorway. I looked at Scarlett, who seemed torn. “Go on, girl. Go get them. We’ll be right down,” I told her, and she took off.

I got out of bed and followed Logan into the bathroom where he was brushing his teeth. I ran my hand across his bare back as I walked by, and when my bladder was empty, it was my turn to brush my teeth.

“You in a hurry or something?” I asked as I entered the bedroom. Logan was already wearing his jeans and was in the process of pulling a T-shirt over his head.

“No. Sorry. I just can’t believe we slept for five hours.”

“Well, we were tired. I don’t know about you, but I definitely feel refreshed. I was thinking about something while brushing my teeth that I want to talk with you about later.”

“All right. Why not now?” Logan sat down and pulled on his socks and then boots before standing back up to button the shirt he’d pulled on over the undershirt.

“Because even though you deny it, you’re in a hurry, so I’ll see you downstairs.” I walked off to the closet to grab a clean shirt, but Logan’s strong arms quickly wrapped around me.

“I’m not in a hurry. I’m actually a little anxious to see the babies.”

“Go see them. I’ll be down as soon as I get dressed.”

“No, I’ll wait.”

“You don’t have to,” I told Logan as I yanked a lightweight hoodie off the hanger. I pulled it over my head as I walked out of the closet. Logan followed and sat down on the bench at the foot of the bed, waiting for me. Stubborn man.

I walked to the dresser and pulled out briefs, socks, and then an actual pair of jeans. I hadn’t been in anything other than sweats and sleep pants since we’d come home with the twins, and it was time to get with it. I was feeling better, and I wanted to get dressed for a change.

“Wow. Jeans?”

“Is that wrong? Should I stick with sweats?”

“Personally, I have reasons for wanting you in either, but if you want to wear jeans, I won’t complain.”

“You just want to look at my ass in them.”

“Guilty. But you can’t blame me. I really like your ass. I thought you knew that.”

“I do, and I’m thankful for that,” I replied as I changed my sleep pants for my briefs and then my jeans. It felt good to be in them, but they certainly weren’t as comfortable as the sweats I’d been living in. I sat beside Logan and pulled on my socks and then reached for my boots. Logan raised an eyebrow at me, causing me to laugh.

“What’s gotten into you?”

“I told you, I feel refreshed. I wanted to get dressed. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

“I’m not trying to. Were you planning on going out or something?”

“We can. I know the twins are only a week old, but I’ve only left the house once since we came home. If nothing else, I’d love to just get out and drive around.”

“That can be arranged. I have no plans except spending time with you and the babies for a few weeks.”

I nodded before tying my boots, and when I stood up, Logan grabbed the pockets on the back of my jeans. “I really do like these jeans you know.”

“That’s how I always feel about yours,” I told him as I looked over my shoulder at my husband. When he finally took his eyes off my ass long enough to look up at me, I winked before I walked away. I heard Logan behind me—for once he wasn’t being stealthy—and we quickly descended the stairs.

We were greeted by the smell of bacon and coffee, but also eggs and potatoes.

“Breakfast for lunch?” I asked Papa as I walked over to the coffeepot and poured myself and Logan a cup of coffee.

“You used to love it for supper, so I figured for lunch it would be fine.”

“Thank you, you don’t have to cook for us, you know.” I looked up at my papa and offered a grateful smile.

“I know I don’t. I’m a retired man now though, and until our furniture and stuff arrive at the end of the week, I don’t have a whole lot to do.”

“When exactly does your stuff arrive, and do you need help?”

“Friday,” Dad said as he walked into the kitchen. “Simon, Sean, and Jasper have already volunteered to help unpack boxes. The moving company will unload everything and place it in the designated room.”

“You know, I haven’t seen your new place yet. You’ll have to let us know when we can stop by and see it,” I told them as I loaded up my plate with food. Logan smiled at me, seeming happy I was eating again.

“You’re welcome anytime; just give us a heads-up and we’ll make sure we’re home,” Dad said as he poured his own cup of coffee.

“What he’s really saying is call ahead of time so they can make sure they’re not having sex somewhere in the house like we do,” I said matter-of-factly. Logan laughed but nodded in agreement while both Dad and Papa looked horrified.

“What? You two really think your son and I don’t have sex?”

“Oh we know. We simply don’t want to talk about it,” Papa told us. I grinned, Logan shrugged, and Dad laughed out loud.

We enjoyed a couple more hours with my dads before they left to head back to their place. They needed to get groceries as well as other essentials, something I realized we needed to do as well.

“I’m already ahead of you on that,” Logan said as he looked through the pantry, writing down things.

“What do you say we see if my dads, or even Aunt Cammie and Uncle Sam, can watch the twins tomorrow and I can go see Dr. Lane before we go shopping ourselves?”

Logan stared at me for a long time before he finally replied. “Wait. Are you actually saying you want to leave the babies with someone?”

“Is that wrong of me? I think they would be more of a distraction during a session with Dr. Lane than anything. But I know I need to see her.”

“Then you will. We’ll make sure you get to her as soon as she has an opening.” I smiled at Logan before crawling into his lap to cuddle. Unfortunately, our cuddle session was short-lived because both of the twins started fussing shortly after.

“You get the bottles, I’ll do diapers this time?” I asked as I got up.

“Sounds good,” Logan said as he walked off toward the kitchen. I went over to the far wall and looked down at our little ones in their crib.

“Okay, so who needs a fresh diaper?” I asked jokingly because obviously neither of them could respond.
